Jerry Riches "Remember The River"
© December 1, 2003 Jerry Riches

Is that a voice I hear?
Whise is that sound coming from?
Hear the voices?
Many voices,
all the voices,
the voices of the world gurgle forth.

Standing here, watching it,
Dreaming,
Absorbing.
Voices ring and hum, bass
and treble, alto and tenor,
the universe babbles it's eternal
lesson as the river moves.
It speaks of it's journey
to the sea, and to the stars.
It speaks to you and me,
if we listen.

Empty yourself,
Make your soul the vessel
for the lessons of the river.
It will teach you,
fill you with tranquil being,
guide you to truth and,
leave you alone, reborn..

Eternity?
That is the lesson,
Truth?
What else is there?
Rest, peace, satisfaction
flows to you and in you
when you listen
to the lesson of timeless time.
Continuous renewal,
ceaselessly flowing,
ceaselessly moving,
completing the cycle.

The voices are of every human,
the endless cycle of life,
every creature,
each manifestation of nature
speaks it's wordless wisdom.
Only listen, quiet the restless mind
and absorb yourself
in the silence of the voices,
here lies salvation.

Here lies what all humans seek.
Remember the river,
it waits to soothe you.
Love is its lesson,
quietude its gift.
Only you must submit to its peace,
concentrate on its action,
absorb yourself in the river
and become one with the universe.

Remember the river,
it's life is your life,
you have found what
you have been looking for.
