| FAQ (Frequently asked questions) 1.) Why does my leo look gray and dull? Your lizard is shedding and this happens every 2-3 weeks. 2. ) I just purchased my gecko and he won't eat.Why? It is typical for a leo to not eat 2-4 days after you brought it home but if it doesn't eat for more than 5 days you might need to consult a vet. 3.) My leo won't eat pinkies.How do i get it to eat them? Try wiggling it around with tweezers. 4.) How do I keep the night temperature up? You could use a heating pad or a red/black lightbulb,both are available in pet stores. 5.) Are heat rocks ok? NO! Heat rocks are not ok at all.They get to hot for your Leo and he will fry himself,literally.They MAY be OK if you hook them up to a thermostat and to a timer.You should leave it on LOW and ONLY for the night. 6.)Do Leo's need UV lighting? short and sweet.Nope 7.)My Leo regurgitates/throws up his crickets,it this normal? NO! It may have an intestinal worm or it may be impacted or the crickets may be too large.As a general rule,make sure the crickets don't exceed 2/3 the size of your Leo's head. | Phases/Morphs Since Leo's have been in captivity for so long someone got the idea to "morph" leo's into different colors.There are many different "morphs".The leading ones are High Yellow,Jungle,Albino,and Tangerine.These are described below. High Yellow-High Yellow consists of a bright yellow backround with reduced spotting.The prices range from 25-30 US dollars. Jungle-This is a little harder to describe.It consists of a yellow backround with purple,irregular circles.The prices range from 30-45 US dollars. Albino-Almost completely white.Well,actually an off white.These types of leo's are favorites but expensive.One of the best is a Tremper Albino.Which have a very light purple along with a very faint yellow band.Prices range from 100-150 US dollars. Tangerine-These beut's are completely orange.Some different morphs of this phase are Carrot Tail,a comletely bright orange tail and Hypo-Tangerine,which boosts a bright orange body..Price ranges from 15-300 US dollars. SEXING Determining if a Leo is male or female is pretty easy.Males have a longer head and broader neck than females.They also have distinct pre-anal pores in the shape of an upside down V.Along with that they have 2 large bumps after the anus.These hold the hemipenes.The hemipenes are a lizard and snakes equvalente to a penis.they ae divided into 2 parts.One hemipene will be used one time and the other the next time a male mates with a female.NEVER HOUSE 2 MALE LEO'S TOGETHER!!! In fact this may be used as a sex determination trick.Males,if encountering another Leo,will rapidly shake his tail side to side.If the other leo is a male it too,will shake it's tail.Then a fight will ensue and the weaker one being run off.This should only happen in the wild! The other male rarely is killed but it will happen if your are carless.on the other hand,if the leo is a female,she will not shale her tail and the male,if ready,will mate with her. |
