Health Issues |
Leopard Geckos,as with many geckos, can have many different types of health problems. |
MITES & TICKS Mites and ticks,if found must be immediatly reported to your local reptile vet .Mites look like little red dots or specs. They like to burrow behind the eyes, near the vent, and in the armpits. Ticks are hard to find with your eye so you may need to use a hand lens to find them or even a microscope. You must consult a vet if these harmful pests are found on your Leo. |
Worms Intestinal worms are the only worm i had to worry about for my lizard. Some symptoms of intestinal worms are runny "poop",large appetite,or on occaision you will see a worm in their "poop".They are easy to treat with RID WORM.It can be found in most major pet stores. All you need to do is mix it in their drinking water or feed it to them directly like you would a baby with their bottle.Except you don't shove it in their mouth. |
Mouth rot Not too common.Usually when an injury to the tip of it's mouth. It looks like a red inflammated area with foul smelling cheesy matter tht becomes entrentched. It can be treated by dabbing the area with a cotton swab with hydrogen peroxide on it.Then dap the area with neosporin. |
Autonomy Leopard geckos tails break of very easily when grabbed. If your Leo does break his tail off immediatly put him on paper towels instead of sand.Dab the area in hydrogen peroxide and neosporin.Don't worry,if you keep his diet up and water up his tail will grow up very very fast. |
Stress Handling your Leo excessivly can stress you lizard out like too much homework or a project due the next day and you forgot about can stress us. Symptoms include not eating, not eating, staying out of sight all the time, and biting.A simple remedy is to cover the cage COMPLETELY with a towel.Leave it on for about a week. And keep the cage away from highly traveled doorways. |
