I shall hereunder try to give you an - admittedly rather short - Introduction, especially for all those who do not know enough German to follow my thoughts and recollections through the many pages of my German WebSite.

Knowing only too well that the listener, or in this case the reader, will transcribe what she/he hears or reads into something for which there are images based on her/his past experiences (the images present for old granddad who tells his stories to his grandchildren will of necessity differ from the images created by his young listeners) I shall nevertheless try to paint some pictures of times gone by, hoping that what the young reader perceives does not differ too much from what I had in my mind.

Although I originally began some of my stories in English, I changed all that when I commenced to tell of the different periods of my life, because here I expected predominantly German readers. 

I have since found, that the result of a computer-translation into English is regrettably such that not even I can understand the meaning of my introductory pages as they are then presented.

To cut a long story short and to give you some idea of what you can expect in the various chapters of my German WebSite (or what you would miss unless you quickly learn German, ha ha ha) I shall give you hereunder a short description.

Under the heading of "We and our World" I have some Short Stories which indirectly result from my experiences in different parts of the world at different times. I also include some verses, or call them poems, on Life in general, on European History (some of them on the old relationship between Northern Europe and England) and on Ecology (the subject of our present times). Furthermore I tell of different periods of my life during 75 years of the 20th Century:

    - My early childhood in Flensburg, a town on the Danish border     
    - My youth in Hamburg during the difficult years before the war
    - The early years of war and the start of my career as a public servant
    - My service in the armed forces - initial training, then Pilot School
    - Prisoner of War in England after a short period of ground combat
    - Return to Civilian Life - both my parents had been killed during a British Air Raid on   
       Hamburg and I had also lost my younger brother, who died - a schoolboy still -
         as a "military helper" (Flak-Helfer) east of Berlin,  where he had been ordered with
         members of  his school class
    - Migration to Australia, with work on a cattle station, on a farm and in an ore mine
         before settling in Adelaide; study of accountancy (A.A.S.A.)
    - Two years with Public Accountants in Durban, South Africa
    - After 16 years return to Germany - Internal Audit for large subsidiary of a US Company
    - On early retirement return to Australia, but - as it turned out - for three years only
    - Coming home for good.

For those of you, who are not able to read my pages in German, this must of necessity suffice as a short description; for the others it might serve as an introduction and - hopefully - as an opener to the various pages of my WebSite. For my non-German-speaking guests I can, however, offer some fragments of my early English Texts and also refer to some chapters of the early parts of  my life translated by an enthusiastic retired school teacher in Canada.
