6 CD CHANGER (....a radio that works only when it wants to)
So what I attempt to do is build a low budget street car for around $2000 while retaining the stock D16A1 DOHC motor. Swapping out to a b16 sounds very tempting but this wouldn't "officially" be about the first gen. teg if I didnt try building up the forgotten D16A1 engine. Or the "poorman's ZC".
But this is merely provisional because I have to see how bad the rust underneath gets. It's near the torsion bar mounts so that can emerge as a definate problem.
WHATS NEXT?
- The 2" borla system is going to be replaced with a "homemade ghetto system" consisting of a Dynomax glasspack muffler and 2-1/4" piping. I've purchased the muffler, 90 degree mandrel piping, flex piping to snake over the axle, straight tubing, ss clamps, and exhaust mounts from JCWhitney. This totalled to be about a
$100.
- Focuz chamber air intake system from my 5g civic. Doesn't fit unless I move battery to rear. So I will build my own piping with 2-1/2 tubing and retain the stock airbox with k&n. Try to rig a ram air also!
- Arospeed strut bars (front/back) from my civic too!
- modify civic headers to fit
- b&m fuel pressure regulator with fuel gauge $100
- bored throttle body or 60mm from newer generation $100
- match port throttle body/intake maniforld/cylinder head/ headers
- web cams or zc cams $300/100
- swap intake manifold to a zc and port/polish $100
- b16a fuel rail & injectors (if possible)
- shave head slightly to raise compression ratio or take layer
off head gasket $100
- WeaponR coilovers for the rear $125
- Ground Control torsion bars up front $200
- ACT clutch kit
- take out stereo equipment and gut out the interior (try to drop weight to 2000lbs)
