The Genda Family has a tradition of 117 years starting from Late Mr. Genda Chinnappa Chettiar and Mrs. Thayammal Chinnappa Chettiar. Starting from them they have seen 5 generations. Mr. Chinnappa Chettiar passed away in the year 1979 when he was 87 years old. His wife Mrs. Thayammal is still sound and healthy. She is 112 now. On 20th May 2007 we celebrated her 110th Birthday. This made a news in all the dailies and Media's. Many people from across Tamilnadu visits her and gets her blessings.

Even at this age she lives all by herself. She takes care of all her needs. She spends time by telling stories to children. When asked, she tells how the life was during the early 1900's and life under British rule.
