INTRODUCTION AND LESSON INDEX
If you have never studied your family history before but have always wanted to, this short course will show you how this can be done using the Internet to research your family tree.
You will be shown which websites to use and how to use them to get the best results.
The course contents will be approximately as follows:
week 1 - Centre & Course introductions. The course will begin by looking at record keeping and the sources available on the Internet. Students will find and print various record sheets to take home and complete as much as possible to provide genealogical detail for use in the coming weeks.
week 2 - 2004 to 1901 - with an emphasis on Civil Registration using the on-line birth, marriage and death indexes.
week 3 - 1901 to 1841 - the Census years
week 4 - 1841 to 1538 - church records and the IGI
week 5 - "Where do I look for ....?" - these web sites will
provide the answer
week 6 - working with others
new BBC Family History web site with tips,
quizzes and forms - this needs moving to somewhere better for the course (Oct 2004)
