Eating out Eating out in Corfu is a pleasure. Whether dining at a local taverna or restaurant, there are hundreds of small places with exquisite food, makes you really hungry The native cuisine is delightfully uncomplicated and quite different from what's found in Greek restaurants abroad. Much of the cooking relies on simple seasonings and fresh meat and vegetables. It's common for Greeks to make a lunch of mezedes, Typical dishes include fried meatballs, octopus, shrimp, squid, cheese, olives, stuffed vine leaves, squash balls, tzatziki, eggplant dip, small sausages and giant beans. You can find mezedes at an ouzeri (serving ouzo, an anise-flavored liqueur or with beer.) Both of these restaurants are open only the day. For the evening meal, Greek tavernas serve specialties as moussaka kebabs, pastitsio,stifado,and paidakia. The cost of dinner for one, not including drinks, start 5.85 euro A lot of restaurants, Greek Tavernas, ouzeri, you will find in all tourist areas of Corfu. My Favorite Menu moussaka (lamb, eggplant and bechamel sauce), Pastitsio (lamb or goat meat with macaroni and tomatoes), Stifado (braised beef with onions), Paidakia (grilled lamb). Sofrito which is (small slices of veal cooked in spicy sauce), Pastitsada which is ( macaroni with veal cooked in tomato sauce), bourdetto a fish cooked in sauce with red peppers and onion Lamp with potatos in the oven. Don`t forget to drink the typical anise brandy with a high alcoholic content called : ouzo and koum kouat (a kind of orange liquer). Other thing to buy from Corfu are White wine, Kumquat liquer, Mandolato nougat, and local cheese. |
Shopping Corfu has an impressive variety of goods to offer shoppers, Fine examples of folk art and crafts are displayed in shops all over the island: hand-woven textiles and embroideries with intricate designs, fine antiques, objects of all kinds carved out of olive wood, silver utensils and lovely jewelry, high quality leather goods, and lots more cool thinks. Other thing to buy from Corfu are: Wine, Koum Kouat liquer, Mandolato, Olives, and local cheese. Shops are open Monday, Wednesday and Saturday 9 am-3 pm and on Tuesday and Thursday 9 am-8 pm.Tourist shops are open 9 am -10 pm. 7 days the week. |

Water sports are also available in all of them At the weast coast Agios Stefanos,Arillas,Agios Georgios, Paleokastritsa,Glyfada,Agios Gordis At the north coast Acharavi,Roda,Sidari At the north east coast Gouvia and Kondokali,Dassia,Ipsos and Pyrgi,Barbati,Kalami Agios Stefanos,Kassiopi At the south coast Benitses,Moraitika,Messongi,Kavos are some of the many beautiful beaches on the island. |

PACKING LIST Clothing Shoes ( some really good walking shoes ) Comfortable sandals for the beach Take a light raincoat & umbrella in case of a few showers. Light clothes because it can be hot, about 37 degrees or more. Swimming suits. Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Don`t forget your suncream and something against mosquito`s. for the evenings.Otherwise you can buy it from here. Photo Equipment: Don`t forget to bring your camera. A jacket is a good idea for the evening. |

Warnings or Dangers: Attention please! If you come to Corfu or another Greece island it is hard when you must go home Getting around : hire a car and visit the whole island but take airco in summer Remeber to bring a spray or something to keep the litlle mosquiito`s away ! When renting a car, always check the tyres, as they are not covered by the insurance! TAXI: Warning: Don`t let the cab drivers trick you. Try catching a ride with an older driver as they are usually more honest and kind hearted. Either agree on a price before, or tell them to use the meter. PLACES TO MOOR Kassiopi - Good shelter if you find a spot behind the mole. The harbor can be very uncomfortable and dangerous when there are NW winds. Care must be taken as close to the quay from the mole around the bay has depths of less than one meter. Fuel , water and provisioning can be obtained. Paliokastritsa - The approach is difficult both day and night. When entering the harbor you must stay close to the head of the mole to avoid the rocks near entrance. The harbor provides good shelter especially to N winds. South winds cause a swell. Fuel, water and provisioning can be found in the town. Benitses - A nice bay for a swim but is exposed to the weather. It is located 5 miles South of Corfu town. You must anchor in the bay as the harbor is allocated for the fishing and day cruiser boats. Petriti - Located 7 miles SE of Benitses is the small fishing bay of Petriti. There is a mole with depth ranging from 1,5 - 2,5 meters. The bottom is uneven so take care. There a some good taverns to eat but fuel & water are not available and limited provisioning. The area provides good shelter from NW winds. This is a nice place for a swim |
