Player Report:
Sergio Porrini joined Rangers during the summer of 1997 after playing in the European Cup Final for Juventus.
The final was not one his happiest memories. The Italian Champions were beaten 3-1 by Borussia Dortmund.
Porrini did get a European Cup winner's medal the year before, however, when Juve beat Ajax after a penalty shoot-out.
The £3 million defender had played at Ibrox when Juve beat Rangers in the Champions' League in 1995. And it was in the qualifying round for the Champions' League that he made his Rangers debut in the 6-0 thrashing of GI Gotu at the start of the 1996-97 season.
Porrini, born in Milan, began his career with his local club AC in 1988. As a 20-year-old, he found it difficult to break into the senior side and moved to Atalanta. He stayed there four seasons, playing in 100 League games and scoring three goals.
The big time beckoned when he signed for Juventus. Apart from his European success, he played 87 games for them in Serie A, scoring once.
He scored his first goal for Rangers - a header - in the 2-2 draw with Motherwell in September 1997.
And he missed only one game in the 1998-99 season as he claimed the most consistent appearance record of any player with three goals in a massive 54 games.
During an effective season Porrini's only blemish was the red card he received when he returned to his home country to face Parma in the UEFA Cup.
Porrini is an avid collector of club shirts. He has more than 250 of them. His favourites? Ronaldo's Inter Milan jersey and a Manchester United one worn by Eric Cantona.
