Brief Player Report:

Claudio Reyna had already appeared 65 times for his country and played in two World Cup campaigns when Dick Advocaat swooped for him late in the 1998-99 season.

He is also captain of the national side and became the first American to lead a European side when he was given the captaincy at his previous club Wolfsburg. Quite an achievement at just 25.

These qualities attracted Dick Advocaat to strengthen his midfield options. He said: "Claudio played against us when we played the US team in Florida during the winter break. He is a very experienced player which is exeptional for his age, and he is very tactical."

As a former Bayer Leverkusen player, Reyna was impressed by Rangers' European run and particularly the win against his old club.

But Reyna already knew enough about Scottish football to move to Glasgow with his wife Danielle, who was also an American international with 20 caps to her name.

With few knowing as much about Reyna, his quick fire start to the new season caught many by surprise.

In a slightly re-shaped midfield Reyna proved a revelation, weighing in with 3 goals in Rangers' first two Premier League ties and another, more vital one in the first leg against Parma.

His all round style of play has made him a favourite with Rangers fans as he adds goals to his powerful running game.

His loss through injury during the game in Eindhoven was a huge blow to the Rangers midfield and Advocaat will no doubt be keen to have the American back in his side.
