Player Report:
Sebastian
Rozental must be one of the unluckiest players ever to pull on a
Rangers shirt. No sooner had his Ibrox career begun than it was
almost wrecked by injury.
He has undergone four operations in 20 months after damaging the medial ligament in his left knee.
Rozental made an explosive start after signing for Rangers for £3.8 million from Universidas Catolica of Chile. He scored on his full debut in the 3rd Round of the Scottish Cup against St Johnstone in January 1997. Unfortunately he also injured his knee and did not appear for the second-half.
That was when his nightmare began. Two months later he had the first operation and was out for the rest of the season.
In September he had screws inserted into his damaged knee, but it still did not feel right in the two League appearances he made on his comeback.
Rozental decided to have a third operation and returned to duty with a 60 second run out as a substitute in the 2-0 victory at Dunfermline in September 1998.
But in November, having made just three appearances as a substitute in the Premiership, he went back to Chile where he had surgery for the fourth time. He is now on an extended 18-month loan to his old club Universidad.
Rozental said he believed it would give him the best chance to recover from his injury and intends to return to Ibrox in the Spring of 2000.
Rozental, who was born in Santiago, has been a member of the Chile national squad.
