Mark Iuliano
Date Of Birth: August 12th 1973
Country: Italy
Position: Defender
The Cozenza-born veteran defender had spent six
seasons in the lower divisions with the likes of Salernitana Sport, Monza Calcio
and Bologna FC, before being signed by Juventus FC, ostensibly as a squad
player. His first goal for the club gave Juventus the title in 1996/97. Early on
he was a replacement for the injured Ciro Ferrara but has now established
himself in the side. His qualities – he is strong in the air and a good reader
of the game – were eventually recognised by Cesare Maldini, the former
national coach, and he was a mainstay of the Italy team at EURO 2000™, playing
all six games under Dino Zoff. Played the 1996/97 UEFA Champions League season
with
Juliano
on his shirt – out of superstition.
