Mathematics

Teachers often get caught up in the fast pace of teaching today.  Trying to cover so many skills results in many of us leaving behind good teaching methods for the sake of time.

Aside from shifting math to the side in an effort to stress reading and writing, we forget that children need to experience math in the concrete form before they can understand the abstract.

According to research, "Manipulatives provide students with opportunities to see, touch, and understand problems on a concrete level before attempting the abstract."  And, "Children develop an understanding of concepts through experiences with real things rather than symbols."

It is my hope, the information linked here will inspire you to utilize manipulatives more in the classroom.
