FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions | ||||||||||
Q) How much do you charge per hour? KS2,11+ Exams, KS3 and GCSE (all levels) £20 if you travel to my place (Drake Road, Rayners Lane, Harrow). £25 if you want me to travel to your place (within 4 miles). For more than one student, its £15 per student per hour, max two students per session. For group sessions payment is collected in advance for upto 5 weeks. Q) Do you teach GCSE equivalent maths to adults trying to go back to university? Yes. Q) Do you teach weekdays or weekends? I prefer weekends. Although I can do lessons on weekdays (evening only) occasionally if needed. Q) Do you give regular homework and exams? Yes. Besides this for KS3 and GCSE(all levels) I make it a point to go through all the past exam papers since 2002 when the new syllabus started. Q) What subjects do you teach? Only maths, although occasionally I do provide help with Physics to my students. Q) Do you travel to students home? Yes. Q) Do you provide any study material? Yes. This really depends on the kind of help you need of me. In some case students have the books and need help with some of the topics or maybe all the topics. In some cases I provide them the workbook or recommend the required books, and go through all the topics giving regular homework and practise exams. For KS3 and GCSE I provide the past exam papers and any sample exam papers from the examination board. I also mark the papers and provide feedback. Q) Do you charge extra if the session last longer than an hour? No. Unless it is agreed upon earlier, you pay the hourly rate. Q) Can I have a lesson for 1 hour 15 min, or 1 hour 30 minutes? Yes. This will be charged on a pro-rata basis. Q) Can I only have revision lessons for a few weeks, my exam is due in few weeks? Yes, this is £25 per hour, as the preparation for these lessons is more intensive. However it also depends how busy I am at that moment of time with my existing students, if I am starved for time I wont be able to do these revision lessons Q) How does the group rate work? I do not mix my existing students with any new student. For group rate you need to have two students, preferably in the same year. The students can be siblings or friends for example. If the students are friends then payments are taken in advance in this case for upto 5 lessons. If it is siblings then if one student is absent for some reason then the individual rate applies for that lesson. Q) Do you teach in a school? No, I am private tutor but well versed with the syllabus, study material, past exam papers, marking scheme and above all a passion to teach. Finally a bit about me.... I started teaching in 2005 with the intention to make that one difference to at least one of my student that would serve them better for the rest of their life, to be a turning point where one realises that they could do so much more. I would like to mention and pay tribute to that one Maths tutor who made all this difference for me back then in 1988 at the Bombay's famous Ramchandra Institute, Mr Radha krishnan Sir, with his amazing positive outlook towards maths that there is a simple technique behind each complex problem! That a list of formulae at the end of the book is an amazing pointer in your brain to each topics! That writing your notes in an organised way saves you half the effort, that each solved sum should be kept and revised again just before the exam like you would revise any other subject, that solving past exam papers under exam condition is the best way to get rid of your silly mistakes, that you have to work hard and solve more questions even if you are good....I can go on and on, but that year in that Institute made a world of change for me. Coming back to present I do this only part time to balance my work and personal life, so I only take up a maximum of 6 students a year and work with them through the year to the best of my ability. My students success keeps me going. Over the years I have come to understand that not everybody out there is going to get an A*, so I don't guarantee anything unlike some coaching class who would make that promise, but I hope to make each student reach their true potential in Maths..... . ==================================================================== In General... 1. Most parents want to meet the tutor face to face to discuss the childs need, and tutor's teaching methods etc. Please feel free to call me for a initial no obligation face to face meeting. 2. Besides Rayner's lane and South Harrow, I also cover near by areas like Perival, Ruislip, Pinner, Northolt, West Harrow, North Harrow etc. ==================================================================== Information about Exam Boards 1. First of all you need to find the exam board for the GCSE exam you are taking, you can get this information from your school. The various exam boards are edexcel, AQA, OCR etc. From my experience most schools in Harrow follow the edexcel board. 2. If it is Edexcel board, you need to find out whether its the Linear Exam or Modular exam format you need to study. Again you can get this information from your school. In modular format you need to give 3 exams, normally in March, Nov and June. In Linear format there is only one exam at the end of the term in June. The following website gives you some more information on the exam boards: AQA - www.aqa.org.uk Edexcel - www.edexcel.org.uk OCR - www.ocr.org.uk CCEA - www.ccea.org.uk WJEC - www.wjec.co.uk ==================================================================== Some good online resource for maths can be found at: www.maths-past-papers.co.uk/Maths_GCSE_Resources.htm www.mymaths.co.uk/ www.bbc.co.uk/schools More coming soon |
