Flower Pin Cushion ~ Bear Coaster ~ Flower Coaster

Recycled Items
CD
2 ~ 6" x 6" Felt Squares OR 5 1/2" Circles
Yarn (continuous 24" length)
Foam (we used a thickness of 1/4")
Felt Scraps
Button (if flower)

Supplies
Sharpie Marker
Hot Glue Gun
Scissors (Sewing Scissors or Pinking Shears worked best on the felt)
Needle (we used Crewel needles as they had large eyes and sharp points)
Black Puffy Paint (if bear)
Large or Extra Large Binder Clip (recommended)

Directions
1)  Use the CD as a template to trace a circle onto the foam. Cut out the foam circle.

2)  Place one of the felt squares/circles on the table in front of you.

3)  Place your circle of foam in the center of the felt square/circle.

4)  Place your CD on top of the foam.

5)  Place the second felt square/circle on top of the CD. Try and line up the edges of the top and bottom pieces of felt as close as possible.

6)  Carefully pick up your "pile" and use a binder clip to secure ALL the items together on one side. We found this was very helpful for not only the Daisies, but also the adults.  :)  Depending on the size of your felt pieces, you want to fold over the felt edge a bit before securing with a binder clip. Try to keep the foam and CD in the center of the felt AND the felt edges lined up to maintain a sewable border.

7)  Thread the needle and knot the yarn at one end.

NOTE: If making pin cushion, start your first stitch from the cd side of the pile so your knot does not show. If making coaster, start your first stitch from the foam side of the pile so your knot does not show. You can also hide the knot with a felt embellishment at the end.

8)  Use the CD edge as a guide to sew the two pieces of felt together using a basic running stitch all the way around. We found that sewing slightly away from the CD edge gave a more secure stitch than right next to it. Remove the binder clip when your stitches meet it and continue.

9)  Knot and trim any excess yarn.

10)  Carefully cut around your coaster/pin cushion to trim any excess felt or to "even out" the felt edge.

11)  On a felt scrap, draw a flower or bear shape and cut out.

12)  If flower, hot glue in the appropriate location. Hot glue a button in the middle of your flower.
If bear, use black Puffy Paint to "dot" eyes and a nose. Hot glue in the appropriate location.
