 | Japanese Hair Sticks Lightly sharpen the ends of a pair of chopsticks. Make a notch around the top of the chopsticks approximately 1/4" from the top. (Most sticks are soft so this can be done carefully with a pair of safety scissors.) Paint the chopsticks. Tie a piece of fishing line to each chopstick in the notch. String beads or other ornamental items on the fishing line. Tie the fishing line securely around the last bead. (Ms. Misty found a smidgen of hot glue around the bottom of the last bead was easier for younger girls than trying to tie the fishing line.) An alternate version can be found here. Could be used as a companion activity for the Art to Wear Try-it (Brownie) and Looking Your Best Badge (Junior).

 | No Sew Hair Scrunchies This turned out to be one of the scouts favoriate activities. As it was no sew, it was the perfect activity for Daisies through Juniors! Directions to make your own no sew hair scrunchy can be found here. Could be used as a companion activity for the Looking Your Best Badge (Junior).

Pocket Purse Cut the pockets from an old pair of jeans and decorate with gems, confetti, or other small decorative items. Glue a length of clothesline to each side of the pocket's top inside seams to create a handle. We found hot glue worked best for adherring items to the pocket. Could be used as a purse, hung on a bedroom doorknob, or hung outside a house entry door or on a refridgerator with a message pad and pencil. Could be used as a companion activity for the Art to Wear Try-it (Brownie) and Badge (Junior).

Stress Ball Have color mixed Play-doh the kids won't use? Recycle it! Three balloons and a partner to help are needed in addition to Play-doh (do not use water balloons). Cut off almost all of the neck of balloons 1 and 2 and cut off approximately half of balloon 3's neck. Fill balloon 1 with Play-doh. Pinch and fold down the opening. Place balloon 1 into balloon 2 with the
"pinched/folded side" down. Pinch and fold down the opening. Place balloon 2 into balloon 3 with the "pinched/folded side" down. Push the air out of the balloon, pull the neck tight, and tie a knot. Ribbon scrap can be tied around the neck of the balloon and permanent markers used to decorate if desired. (An alternate version can be found at Country Roads Gardens & Crafts)

Hovercraft The Hovercraft glides across a table or wood floor with a small push! We altered directions from NASA and used a wooden spool and foam circle with a hole punched in the center instead of a pop-up top. Directions to make your own NASA Hovercraft can be found here. Could be used as an alternate requirement for the Movers Try-it (Brownie).

Kazoo Cover a toilet paper tube with scrap paper. Using a hole punch, punch one hole into the toilet paper tube as far down as the hole punch will allow. Cover the same end with a circle of wax paper two or three times larger than the toilet paper tube opening (we used a medium Tupperware lid as a pattern). Secure the wax paper with a rubber band; making sure not to cover the hole punched into the tube. It takes a slight blowing and humming combination to make the kazoo work. Could be used as an alternate requirement for the Making Music Try-it (Brownie).

Rock Photo/Message Holder Miss Trista loves science and we found a way to work it into our district event. We used plaster of paris, small rocks, a piece of bent wire and a dixie cup.
Earth and Science Try-it requirement #6 Make a Rock (Brownie) or Rocks Rock Badge (Junior) requirement #9 Fossil Fun if you make fossil impressions.

 | Crafters Trashbag We slid a jewelry pin through the balloon neck and hot glued them together on the inside. This leaves room to hot glue your craft scraps to the inside front of the balloon neck and jewelry pin to hold it all together.
