1 & 3 Props-Front row of scrum,stands to the sides of the hooker. Usually, biggest members on the team, do a lot of tackling and should be first to get to rucks. 2 Hooker- Stands in the middle of the props. ‘Hooks’ the ball out of tunnel and pushes ball back to eight man and backs in the scrums. Usually throws ball in during line-outs. 4 & 5 Second Row-Pushes scrum, bent down behind props. Second rows are usually tall and jumpers during a line-out. 6 & 7 Flankers or 'locks'- Best view from a scrum, they are first to break and to get in oppositions way. 8 The eight man- Only forward allowed to pick up ball, located in back of the scrum. She holds the ball until the backs call for it. 9 Scrumhalf-Links the backs and forwards, the scrum-half's main physical responsibility is to get the ball off from the ground and recycle it back into open play. 10 Flyhalf- The leader of the backs, she calls all of the back plays and makes sure the line is in order and keeps the backs together, touches ball first and punts the most. 11 Weak side wing- Outside winger tries to turn the corner with her speed. Wingers must be sure tacklers as if the action gets out side of them. 12 Inside Center-She is usually the biggest back and does crash plays back into the pack. Works along side with outside center to fool defense and burst into open space. 13 Outside Center -The outside center is more noted for speed than size. Works with inside center to fool and switch up to perform plays. 14 Strong side winger-Like weak side, on extreme outside of plays. Wingers are very fast and most use quick thinking to find open space and tackles when the time comes. 15 Fullback- She fields deep punts from the other team and acts as a last line of defense in case of a big breakaway, she can also be filled in a line when a back is caught in a ruck. There are 15 players a side, generally divided into 8 forwards, and 7 backs. The forwards are those in the scrums, while the backs stay back and run plays to gain advantages with the ball. Forwards are the bigger girls on the team they do all the dirty work: scrumming, lineout and rucks and mauls. They play as a team and usually in high-traffic areas. Collectively, they are called the pack. The pack of forwards work together in rucking and mauls and do the necessary work of keeping the ball for their side and also do short runs of 3-5 yards. The forwards get their different positions names form the scrum. Where they all have a specific place Backs are where the speed and finesse comes in. They are fast sprinters, very agile, and have exceptional kicking and ball handling. They work together, but generally play 1 on 1 defensively against opponents. Backs play in the open field. Backs are more position specific in the game. They run series of plays, which can be very complicated that range from short to long-range yardage. Backs need accurate passing and precision timing.
