A HAT-TRICK FOR JAMIE
(04/05/08) It took extra-time to seperate the teams as the Under 17s ran out 4-3 winners aganst Amlwch yesterday to go through to the final of the Bobby Hughes Memorial Shield where they will now meet Holyhead Peibio at Cemaes Bay next Friday, 9th May. The game had ended 2-2 at the end of normal time but a hat-trick from Jamie Aston and a further strike from Scott Hughes was enough to see Glan through to a second final.

WEEKEND TOURNAMENTS
(02/05/08) The Ospreys are at the Llangefni Tournament 2pm on Saturday 3rd April and the Red Dragons are at the Pen-Y-Groes Tournament on Sunday 4th April.

UNDER 17s THROUGH TO FINAL
(30/04/08) Glantraeth Under 17s raced into a three goal lead this evening against Felinheli in the semi-final of the R.S.Gardner Cup with goals from Matti Jones (2) and Kyle Liggins only for the visitors to stage a tremendous comeback to draw level. However, second half goals from Scott Hughes and Jamie Aston saw the lads win 5-3 and go through to the final on Friday 23rd May when they will meet Amlwch, Bontnewydd or Holyhead Peibio. Venue to be confirmed.

CAERNARFON TOURNAMENT
(28/04/08) The Ospreys and the Red Dragons reached the semi-finals of the Caernarfon Wanderers Tournament on Sunday both finishing in fourth place in their group against strong opposition, the Dragons only losing to a last minute goal against Caernarfon. Two Under 9s teams entered, winning some games and enjoying themselves but failing to reach the final stages.

17s THROUGH TO 2ND SEMI-FINAL
(27/04/08) Goals from Scott Hughes (2), Ben Hull, Sean Davies, Jason Edwards & Kyle Liggins gave the Under 17s a 6-2 win at Cae Glyn Caernarfon on Saturday to go through to the semi-finals of the Bobby Hughes Memorial Shield. That's an incredible 25 goals scored in the last four games by the lads! They now meet Amlwch at Cae Cob next Saturday morning. In the semi-final of the R.S.Gardner Cup the 17s are at home to Felinheli this Wednesday evening.

JUNIORS REVIEW
(23/04/08) The Red Dragons had a creditable 1-1 draw at Amlwch last weekend with Ryan the scorer. The game was played in a strong wind making it literally a game of two halves. Both the Dragons and the Ospreys travel to Caernarfon Wanderers next Sunday, 27th April, to take part in a friendly tournament. The tournament starts at 9.15 am. Instructions on how to get to Cae Top, Caernarfon can be found on their web site at www.caernarfonwanderers.co.uk
The Under 17s are away to Cae Glyn Caernarfon on Saturday in a quarter final of the Bobby Hughes Memorial Shield. The winners will be at home to Amlwch in the semi-final on Saturday 3rd May. Finally, best wishes to treasurer Karen Evans who was taken ill on holiday in Tenerife but is hopefully now on the road to a full recovery. Also get well soon to Geraint who manages the Under 17s with Mike.

BACK ONLINE...FOR NOW
(21/04/08) I have put the Juniors web pages back online for now and will do a weekly round-up of any news supplied to me, without pictures, until the Glantraeth Tournament in July when I will make a decision whether to close the site for good. One of the reasons for going back online is to flag the apology printed below proving I dont always get everything 100% right. There is a league committee meeting tonight and at least one league official has been in touch and expressed disappointment about the site being suspended. I have explained my reasons to him and he might bring the subject up for discussion. The league need to formulate a clear policy as to whether the photographing of games in the Anglesey Junior League is permissible or not and, if necessary, publish some sensible guidelines. I can no longer accept a situation where the league general secretary is quizzing Robin about me taking photographs when I am stood just twenty yards away, making me feel as if I am engaged in some kind of criminal activity. When my wife heard she wanted me to stop doing the site for good and I can understand her point of view but I am reluctant to do that as I feel it has been good for the club AND good for the league. (SS)

APOLOGY
(20/04/08) In my report of the Glantraeth Under 17s v Llanfair Scarlets game on 5th April I perhaps made too much of the decision to award a penalty to Glantraeth in a way that came over as being critical of the young referee who was controlling the game. The comments obviously caused offence and on second reading my comments I can understand why. I am only too happy to retract those comments and apologise as in no way do I want to be responsible for deterring a promising young referee from continuing his career in the game. I would just add that a couple of weeks previously I had said about the same referee that 'the game was well controlled by a young referee who looks destined for higher things.' (SS)

JUNIORS WEEKLY ROUND-UP
(17/04/08) Glantraeth Under 11 Red Dragons had a tremendous tussle with Menai Bridge Tigers on Monday evening in Malltraeth before finishing up 2-1 winners, the winning goal coming from Jack after great work from Ryan and Jamie. Jamie was the other scorer. The Under 9s had a stunning 7-0 win at Trearddur Bay on Tuesday night. The Bay are a useful side but on the night our boys were magnificent. Tonight the Under 17s completed their season as runners-up with a 7-0 win at Llanfair Scarlets. On target were Matti Jones (4), Sean Davies, Scott Hughes & Kyle Liggins. Well done guys, some great results there.

GREAT GOAL WINS IT
(15/04/08) The Red Dragons won a close game with Menai Bridge Tigers by two goals to one and as on Saturday they started slowly with the Tigers taking an early lead. The Dragons were soon back on terms through a well struck shot from Jamie but had a couple of let-offs as Jack cleared off the line then a post came to their rescue. The Dragons' second goal towards the end of the first half was worthy of winning any game, started with a defence splitting pass from Ryan that sent Jamie away down the right and his perfectly delivered cross was nicely finished by Jack. The second period was goalless with Iwan going closest for Glantraeth with a header that was just over.

NEW DATE FOR CAE GLYN GAME
(15/04/08) Last weekend's postponed Under 17 fixture at Cae Glyn has NOW BEEN REARRANGED FOR SATURDAY 26th APRIL. The semi-final of the R.S.Garner Cup will see the 17s at home to Felinheli on Wednesday 30th April. In their final league game the Under 13s went down 6-0 to Llangoed last night, a much better performance by the boys against a team from the higher reaches of the division.

THANX TO 'JINX'
(14/04/08) Robin has asked me to pass on thanks to 'Jinx' of Holyhead who had the 20 winning ticket at a recent Dragon's game and insisted on donating the money back to the club. Although we don't know his real name we would like to thank 'Jinx' for his generous gesture (SS).

GOOD RUNOUT FOR DRAGONS
(13/04/08) The Red Dragons travelled to Llandegfan today for a friendly fixture and found themselves 2-0 down at half-time. However, the boys got their passing game going after the break and ran out 5-3 winners. Ryan got three with Dion and Jake also on target. With three regulars missing it was a good result with Osian coming in and contributing towards an impressive team performance.

LATE WINNER DENIES JUNIORS
(13/04/08) A goal five minutes from time gave Amlwch a 1-0 victory this morning at Cae Cob over the Under 9 Juniors. The youngsters defended well and Dafydd rated it as amongst their best performances of the season. In another Under 9s game the Colts lost to Llanfairpwll.

UPDATED DRAGONS FIXTURES
(09/04/08) Next Sunday, 13th April, the Dragons are away to Llandegfan Leopards in a friendly, kick-off 10:30 am. The following Tuesday, 15th April, they are at home to Menai Bridge Tigers in a league match, kick-off 6.15 pm, and on Saturday 19th April the boys travel to Amlwch for their final league game. That one kicks-off at 11.30 am. Bob is also hoping to arrange a further two games with Trearddur Bay and Cemaes Bay before the tournaments start.

17s MOVE A STEP CLOSER
(08/04/08) Last night's result in the Under 17's League saw third placed Felinheli lose 4-2 to Cae Glyn Caernarfon which means that if Glantraeth win their final league game at Llanfair Scarlets they will finish runners-up. Following Saturday's win over Llanfair in the RS Gardner Cup Glantraeth will now be at home to Felinheli in the semi-final. Next Saturday the lads are away to Cae Glyn in the Bobby Hughes Memorial Trophy with the winners meeting Amlwch or Penrhosgarnedd.

DAVE TELLS IT AS IT IS
(05/04/08) I am afraid it was the same old story for the Ospreys. After another dominant display it pains me to have to describe yet another negative score line. The bottom line is we lost 0-2. The Ospreys should have won easily despite missing 3 players. We had at least 4 times as many opportunities as Valley to score but we failed to convert point blank chances at one end and let in 2 'cheap' goals the other. Although we were the force we were not beyond critic. On a negative note we tended to wait for the ball to reach the opposition when more alert anticipation was needed. Stepping in first, tackling and intercepting the ball should now be second nature. Al and Gwern did this well, Colin at times. All balls in the air should be dealt with! A couple of players were off the pace all through the match, and concentration and general reading of play was low by some. Have we forgotten that if we put the ball in the back of the opponents net we can score a goal too?! We appear to do the difficult and challenging things well and mess up doing simple things in vital places. Some players are living off the speed, fitness and ability of others, although they are capable of good football themselves at times. If they can't catch people and run past players they will become virtual spectators. This last league game is the water shed. No more free rides, it is sink or swim now preparing for the summer tournaments. No train, No fitness, No play! All we have to offer now is sweat and toil in order to prepare for the remainder of this year and next. Parents and players must make their child available for all training sessions otherwise they will simply not get on the team sheet. On a positive, immediately before the final whistle, I saw the Ospreys string together a 7 pass move from one end to the other. This move twice involved Guto, cutting the opposition into pieces. This resulted in a chance on goal for Sion. More of that please! Surely it is just a matter of time before some body is on the receiving end of an avalanche of goals. Gwern worked hard and was like 'steve G' . Al 'the rock' was superb. Dan gave it everything as did most of the team most of the time. Sorry to be ultra picky but you'll get the praise when the score line improves. Thanks for the loyalty and to every body for helping me and Cliff this year and lets try and do some thing!!

PENALTY SWINGS IT FOR 17s
(05/04/08) A penalty midway through the second period swung this game in Glantraeth Under 17's favour in an evenly balanced cup tie in which visitors Llanfair Scarlets had given a good account of themselves. After a good early save from Paul Evans the first half was pretty devoid of goalmouth incident with both keepers virtually spectators. The second period was little different until a spot kick was awarded for a challenge on Bryn Jones and Sean Davies converted the penalty to break the deadlock and put Glantraeth ahead (picture above). Four minutes from time Carl Edwards (pictured left) swept the ball home first time from a Matti Jones' corner kick for an excellent strike to confirm a semi-final place for the home side. Photos now online.

JAMIE AT OLDHAM ATHLETIC
(04/04/08) Glantraeth Under 17's left sided midfielder Jamie Aston will miss tomorrow's cup tie with Llanfair Scarlets as he returns to Oldham Athletic on trial. We wish Jamie all the best as he attempts to follow in the footsteps of Kenleigh Owen of Holyhead who was on trial at Oldham two years ago and was then awarded a contract with the Lancashire club.

SUNDAY TRAINING FOR DRAGONS
(04/04/08) Bob reports that there is no game for the Dragons again this weekend but there will be a training session at Cae Cob on Sunday at 11.00 am.

17s GO FOR SEMI-FINAL PLACE
(04/04/08) Weekend fixtures include the Under 17s at home to Llanfair Scarlets on Saturday in a quarter-final of the R.S. Gardner Cup, kick-off 9.30 am at Cae Cob. The Ospreys are also at home on Saturday for their final league game of the season with Valley the visitors although they will be without Dion and Jonathan who are unavailable. Kick-off for this game is 12.30 pm. The Under 13s are away to Llanfair Swifts.

ENTRY FORMS NOW AVAILABLE
(03/04/08) Entries are now being accepted for the Glantraeth Juniors 7-a-side Tournament that will be held at Glantraeth Juniors' own ground at Cae Cob, Malltraeth, Anglesey on Saturday 5th July & Sunday 6th July. Secretary Robin Griffiths will be sending out invitations this weekend to clubs individually but you can download the entry form, team sheets and letter of invitation here on the website. Age groups are under 9s (Saturday am), under 11s (Sunday am) & under 13s (Saturday pm). The entry fee is 10 per team and the deadline for entries is 5th May. Places are limited so return your entry form as soon as possible.

GOOD DISPLAY...BAD RESULT
(02/04/08) Dave reports on Bro Benllech 3 Ospreys 0: We asked for no quarter and were given no quarter as the Ospreys met a 'beefed up' Bro Benllech team. I can honestly say for 2 thirds of this game the Ospreys were the dominant force. The first half belonged to the Ospreys but we were simply not able to get on the score sheet. Good football was being displayed by all. Victory would go to whoever scored first. In the final quarter Bro Bellech broke the dead lock with a dipping shot or cross from the left which looped into the net. The Ospreys' replied mounting several attacks. The best was after some brilliant passing down the left when a good opportunity fell to Marcus. His shot was on target but there wasn't enough venom in it to trouble the goal keeper. Ospreys had other opportunities which fell to others who experienced similar difficulty. In a final effort to level the scores we gambled and pushed three up in attack. Unfortunately this also left us short at the back and we leaked two more goals. This game was another example of failing to convert a good display into a result. I cannot fault the effort, commitment and ability shown by all the players tonight in an excellent display of football. This bodes well for the future. We played really well against a good team, shame about the score.

PROGRAMME ADVERTS
(02/04/08) Glantraeth Juniors' secretary Robin Griffiths has sent out a bilingual letter requesting programme adverts for the Juniors' tournament in July:- Dear Sir/Madam, It is the intention of Glantraeth Juniors Football Club to organize a 7-a-side football tournament for children under 9, 11 and 13 years of age. The tournament to be played on July 5/6 , 2008. We intend to produce a programme for the tournament and we are looking for sponsors to advertise in the programme. For a small fee of 10, 20 or 30 we can advertise your business and we in return can purchase match balls for the games. If you have an interest please send a cheque made payable to Glantraeth Juniors with a business card or ready made advert. Teams from all over North Wales will visit therefore it is a good opportunity to put your business and Anglesey on the map. I thank you beforehand for your support and co-operation in this matter. Yours sincerely, R.Griffiths, Hafod Yr Eithin, Penlon, Newborough, Anglesey LL61 6RS.

JUNIORS NEWS
(31/03/08) The Glantraeth Tournament is now planned to be played over the weekend of 5th/6th July with the Under 9s and Under 13s on the Saturday and the Under 11s on the Sunday. Robin expects to have rules and entry forms available shortly. Last week's Junior League meeting voted in favour of a change of age groups next season to U10s, U12s, U14s and U16s. It is planned to also have a youth league although the format and who will administer it have yet to be sorted. The Ospreys game at Bro Benllech Moelfre yesterday was postponed and has now been arranged for this Wednesday on Moelfre School pitch (6.00 pm). A game has also been arranged for this Saturday at home to Valley, kick-off 12.30 pm. The Under 13s have a game away to Trearddur Bay tomorrow (Tuesday). At the request of Huw here are some more Photos of the 10-1 hammering of Llangefni by the under 17s.

GLANTRAETH...10 LLANGEFNI...1
(29/03/08) Stan reports: Despite the atrocious conditions the Under 17s turned on a masterful display this morning at Cae Cob to go through to the quarter-finals of the R.S.Gardner Cup, annihilating Llangefni by ten goals to one. Huw Williams opened the scoring after 11 minutes scoring from close range after hesitation in the visitor's defence. A left foot cross from Dion James fell for Jamie Aston five minutes later and although his shot came back off the crossbar Ben Hull followed up to head home. On 27 minutes Sean Davies swept the ball home from a right wing corner kick and three minutes later Matti Jones scored a fourth with a nice turn and shot after the ball had been played forward by Ben Hull. The same player almost completed a hat-trick in three minutes as he added another then fired inches wide straight from the kick-off. Shellshocked Cefni were wanting the game abandoned and although the wind and rain was a bit special the referee quite rightly elected to play on. The half-time interval saw keeper Paul Evans unable to continue so he moved to an outfield role with Scott Hughes taking over between the sticks. Two minutes into the second period Sean Davies fired in a tremendous shot from 25 yards to make it 6-0 and the massacre continued with a goal from Jamie Aston five minutes later. If things couldn't get any worse for the visitors, they did, as a ball into the area from Kyle Liggins was deflected into goal off a Cefni defender. The visiting side gained a consolation goal from Douggie Fowlie with 14 minutes played as he met a corner kick from the left but normal service was soon resumed as a Ben Hull shot was half saved only for Sean Davies to follow up for a simple tap-in to complete his treble. With time almost up Llangefni's humiliation was just about complete as Ben Hull squared the ball for Paul Evans (pictured right) to jubilantly get his name on the scoresheet. Glantraeth will now at play at home to Llanfair Scarlets next Saturday.

SAME OLD STORY FOR 13s
(29/03/08) Against a strong Bodedern side the Under 13s gave a good first half display in this morning's game at Malltraeth and were only three down at the interval then came close to pulling a goal back soon after the break. From then on it all went downhill in what has become a familar story as an avalanche of second half goals gave the visitors victory by eleven goals to nil. It must be frustrating for the coaches to see goals so easily conceded after the early play has so often looked promising.

UNDER 17's GAME BACK ON
(28/03/08) Martyn has phoned to say the Under 17s cup tie with Llangefni is now back on for tomorrow (Saturday), kick-off 11.00 am, having been switched to Glantraeth Juniors' CAE COB ground. The Under 13s home game with Bodedern will now kick-off at 9.30 am.

CALLING ALL UNDER 11s
(27/03/08) There is an invitation for all the Under 11s that will be moving up to Under 13s next year to attend training sessions with Kenny and the current under 13s at Cae Cob TONIGHT (Thursday) starting at 5:15 pm until 6:30 pm. It's very important for the players to start learning the rules of the 11 a side game. Thanks, Bob.

WEEKEND FIXTURES
(26/03/08) The Ospreys have arranged one of their two remaining fixtures for next Sunday when they will travel to face Bro Benllech Moelfre, kick-off 10.30 am. The Under 17's R.S.Gardner Cup quarter final at Llangefni scheduled for Saturday has been postponed because of damage to the Llangefni pitch which has put the ground out of use for the rest of the season. It is proposed to switch the game to Glantraeth on Wednesday 9th April. The Under 13s play Bodedern at Cae Cob on Saturday morning, kick-off 10.30 am.

THE FUTURE OF THE WEBSITE
(26/03/08) I went along to the Under 13s home fixture with Amlwch on Saturday 15th March to take a few pictures of the game for the website. I only stayed about 15 minutes as I had to catch the coach to Denbigh with the first team. I have since learned that a woman, presumably a parent, with the Amlwch team was making enquiries as to who I was and expressing concerns about me taking pictures. By coincidence or otherwise the Anglesey Junior League Secretary came along to the Under 17s game a week later and was following much the same line of enquiry which suggests to me that a complaint may have been made. I have had nothing but support from everyone at Glantraeth since setting up a Juniors website including the use of pictures and in truth I am sure many of our opponents enjoy visiting the site and until now there has never been a word of complaint, however, it only takes one to ruin it for everyone. I have been in the game a long time working with senior and junior sides and in trying to do something constructive for Glantraeth Juniors I wasnt expecting my integrity to be questioned. Maybe thats naivety on my part. Of course we have to be protective of our kids and many common sense procedures have been introduced but the words common sense are not in the vocabulary of the humourless zealots who despite being in the minority always take these things a step too far and in the process will destroy the fun and innocence that is so much part of being young. The ironic thing is that Amlwch themselves had asked my advice about setting up a junior website and now I have had to advise them of the problems they might face which might now deter them from going ahead. If league officials are not going to represent the views of the vast majority of parents (and kids) who see no problem and in fact take pleasure from team and action pictures on websites like ours and instead take sides with that tiny, though often very vocal, minority that see the worst in everyone then there seems little point in continuing with the junior website. Possibly some clarity may emerge from Thursdays league meeting, I am sure Amlwch themselves would welcome some guidance. It will be a great shame if the website closes, I enjoy doing it, I believe it has complimented the great strides Glantraeth Juniors have made over the past 12 months and it has been part of my efforts to try and encourage a whole club mentality here at Glantraeth, not always easy at the best of times. (Stan Strickland)

LEAGUE MEETING THURSDAY
(25/03/08) There is an Anglesey Junior League meeting this coming Thursday at Cae Bob Parry the home of Llangefni Town FC. The meeting starts at 7.30 pm and managers are welcome to attend.

GLYN AGAIN THE PARTY POOPERS
(22/03/08) Cae Glyn fought back from two goals down to snatch a 2-2 draw and put a dent in Glan Under 17's hopes of the runners-up spot. The Caernarfon side had won the first meeting 2-1 and although Glantraeth always looked the better side they just could not kill off the visitors. Matti Jones (pictured) and Sean Davies went close in the opening minutes then Ben Hull headed over a Jamie Aston cross as the home side piled on the early pressure despite playing against a strong wind. On 26 minutes Matti Jones turned and shot over but five minutes later a scarmble in the Glyn goalmouth saw Huw Williams force the ball home. A minute later it took a fine save from Paul Evans as Glyn's number 11 met a long free kick and it signalled a spell of pressure from the visitors. Glan began the second half strongly, Dion James putting in a good effort from 25 yards then Scott Hughes fired just wide. Eight minutes in Matti Jones scored a second after Aston's shot had been blocked but four minutes later the visitors pulled a goal back as a right wing corner was converted at the near post. With ten minutes remaining Kyle Liggins met a Sean Davies cross only to head narrowly wide. It proved a costly miss as play quickly switched upfield for Glyn to snatch an equaliser. Despite a late siege Glan just couldn't get a winner. Credit to both teams for an entertaining game in difficult conditions, played in a good spirit and well controlled by a young referee who looks destined for higher things. Photos now online. The Under 13s went down 3-1 at Cemaes Bay.

JUNIORS & COLTS BOTH END 1-1
(21/03/08) The Under 9s had a double header with Trearddur Bay this morning at Cae Cob. The Juniors game ended 1-1, Aron giving the Juniors a first half lead only for Bay to draw level in the second period. Only an outstanding display by the Bay keeper prevented a Glantraeth win. It was much the same story in the Colt's game with the visiting keeper again distinguishing himself. This game also ended one apiece with Arwel on target for the Colts.

LLANGEFNI FIXTURE ARRANGED
(20/03/08) The Under 17's R.S.Gardner Cup quarter final match away to Llangefni Juniors has been arranged for Saturday 29th March, the winners will be at home to Llanfair Scarlets the following Saturday. In the Memorial Trophy quarter finals Glantraeth have been drawn away to Cae Glyn Caernarfon on Saturday April 12th. This Saturday the lads are at home to Cae Glyn in the second last league fixture, kick-off 10.30 am. With Holyhead already champions second place is between Glan and Felinheli who still have to face the leaders. The Under 13s travel to face Cemaes Bay. Updated fixtures for the Under 17s and Under 13s are now online. Bob reports: No game for the Dragons this coming weekend, Menai Bridge unable to play due to work commitments. We only have two games to go, home to Menai Bridge and away to Amlwch. After that we intend to play a few of the stronger sides from the Ospreys' league.

HOLYHEAD BEATEN BY DRAGONS
(16/03/08) Robin reports Red Dragons 2 Holyhead 1: The Dragons started with the wind behind them and although Holyhead had the better of the opening period, Carwyn making a fine save from Elliot, the Dragons steadily got on top taking the lead through Dion with a Beckhamesque (?) type shot from the halfway line that caught the keeper unawares, the ball entering the net off a post. There was uncertainty about the second Dragon's goal as to whether Ryan or Osian or Dion got the final touch which Bojangles will hopefully clear up. 2-0 at half-time. The Dragons began well against the wind with Aled solid at the back but Holyhead pulled a goal back as Carwyn saved but the ball fell kindly for the visitors to score. Despite that the Dragons looked comfortable and should have added a third five minutes from time with the best move of the game. Final score 2-1 to the Dragons. (Bojangles has now passed judgment that Dion also got the second goal so it will be credited to him 'til someone tells me different - Stan).

HARD GOING FOR UNDER 13s
(15/03/08) Stan reports: I only managed to catch about ten minutes of this morning's Under 13s game as I was travelling on with the first team to Denbigh. Up against Amlwch who had won all 15 games they have played this season the lads were on a hiding to nothing and so it proved as they lost by twelve goals to nil. I have nothing but admiration for Kenny, Rhys and the lads, they always give one hundred percent and enjoy a fair proportion of the game but their inexperience costs them dearly. During the short time I was there Glantraeth came close to scoring three times yet a goal was all too easily conceded at the other end which pretty well sums up their season. Keep going boys things can only get better.

GLANTRAETH TOURNAMENT
(13/03/08) At last night's committee meeting it was agreed that we would hold a Junior Tournament at Malltraeth over the first two weekends in July. The Under 9s tournament on Saturday 5th July, Under 11s Sunday 6th July, Under 13s Saturday 12th July and Under 17s Sunday 13th July. Full details and an application form to download will be online over the next few days.

COMMITTEE MEETING WEDNESDAY
(10/03/08) There is a Juniors Club committee meeting this Wednesday at Ysgol Bodorgan, 7.30 pm start. Would all team managers and committee members please attend.

WELCOME TO GLAN JUNIORS
(09/03/08) I sent an email last week to Blackburn Rovers asking them to welcome Glantraeth Juniors to Saturday's game over the PA system or in the programme. Robin tells me the welcome was in the programme, he wasn't sure if it was announced over the PA. The youngsters watched a 1-1 draw with Fulham at Ewood Park and arrived home about 9.00 pm last night pretty tired after a long, but hopefully enjoyable, day. (SS)

OSPREYS DESERVE BETTER
(09/03/08) The Ospreys can rightly feel aggrieved at losing 3-1 to Llandegfan Leopards this morning, they were every bit as good as their opponents who had won the first meeting 5-2 and a last ten minutes that saw them lay siege to the Leopards goal came close to giving them the draw their performance deserved, the goal coming fron Sion Thomas and being denied by a post. Photos now online.

SIX PLACES REMAINING
(05/03/08) There are six places remaining for Juniors players (up to and including under 17s) for Saturday's trip to Blackburn Rovers. The cost is 10 which includes entrance to the stand and coach travel. Pick-up points can be discussed. If you want to go phone Robin on 01407 840386 (daytime) or 01248 440630 (evening) or Cogs on 01407 840833 (evening).

EWOOD ARRANGEMENTS
(02/03/08) Next Saturday a party of under 11s and under 9s with team coaches will be travelling to Ewood Park to see the Premiership game between Blackburn Rovers and Fulham. The coach leaves Ysgol Bodorgan at 9.30 am on the Saturday morning and the boys will need a packed lunch and pocket money. There will be a toilet stop on the way. It is anticipated that the coach will arrive back at Ysgol Bodorgan between 8.30 and 9.00 pm.

DAVE PRAISES THE 'STALWARTS'
(02/03/08) Dave reports the Ospreys 7-1 defeat at Cemaes Bay: It was a little disappointing to see so few Ospreys had made themselves available for this encounter against the strongest team in the league. We only just mustered a team! I thank all who did play for the support and effort shown both on the field and off. Cemaes were frantic at the start and dominated the Ospreys some of whom were still suffering 'Jet lag' after the journey. Cemaes made repeated goal attempts and were solid at the back. As I have come to expect the Ospreys showed fight and tried to play football when in possession although outgunned at times. We conceded 3 before half time with the elements. Cemaes were able to bring on some fresh legs and soon it was 6-0. I was looking for the umpire! In the final quarter we enjoyed our best period of the game and basically stopped the rot. Gwern won a leg race with two full backs to slot home a goal as spirits raised and we rallied. Dion and Daniel led by example. In the final minutes of the extended 2nd half we conceded goal 7. Judging by the law of averages the final score was about right for the amount of chances created. Some difficult efforts were saved and simple efforts leaked by Ospreys. On a high note I am told our goal is only the 3rd Cemaes have conceded all season! In conclusion, 'We cannot just rely on our stalwarts. It would be nice to choose from a full squad for our remaining 3 games'.

DRAGONS 2 BODEDERN 0
(02/03/08) Bojangles reports: Playing into a strong head wind and with the Boded boys on a high after beating Llangefni last week (the only team to do so this season) the Glan boys took hold of the game from the off with some good passing and structured movement resulting in decent attempts at goal, the work rate and commitment of the boys was good this morning with only a few lapses throughout the course of the game, Boded had one clear attempt at goal with their striker one on one with Carwyn who stayed up on his feet made himself big and knocked the shot out for a corner. Boded were a much improved side to the one the Dragons played at the start of the season working well together but the Glan boys always looked the more likely to score which they did towards the end of the first half when Ryan on the edge of their box turned his man well and blasted the ball through the mass of bodies into the back of the net. The second half started much in the same vein with the wind now at their backs the Dragons surged forward again and again keeping the Boded goalie busy throughout the half in fact the boys were playing a little to much football instead of using the wind and just shooting from distance (no pleasing some people), mid way through the second half Dion pounced onto a wayward ball adjusted himself and slotted the ball well into the Boded goal, 2 -0 the final score. Well done to all the boys who played this morning.

LIAM GIVES 13s EARLY LEAD
(01/03/08) Glantraeth Under 13s went down 6-1 to Cemaes Bay this morning at Cae Cob. Liam Owen gave the home side an early lead just after Cemaes had hit a post but the visitors soon pulled level despite a great effort from Luke to keep the ball out then took the lead with a fluke as a cross dropped over everyone into the net. Cemaes scored again through a fine goal from their number 4 to lead 3-1 at the interval. Glantraeth had an equal share of the second half but were hit with three more goals to give the scoreline a look that didn't really do justice to the effort they put in. There is much to admire about the boys, they always give 100% and contribute fully but at times their inexperience shows and they get severely punished as they did today. A mention to Oliver Evans who had a fine game in goal.

UNDER 17s POSTPONED
(29/02/08) Mike reports that the Under 17s fixture tomorrow at Llanfair Scarlets has been called off due to a waterlogged pitch meaning no games for three weeks.

OSPREYS 1 DRAGONS 2
(29/02/08) Ospreys' manager Dave Webster reports on yesterday's friendly at Cae Cob: A solid performance from the Ospreys had the Dragons on 'tenderhooks' for large parts of this friendly encounter. It was a vast difference to the Ospreys weak display in the pre-season. Both teams had players missing but possibly most affected were the Dragons. An unfortunate headed own goal after a dangerous corner saw the Ospreys take the lead in the first half. A defensive lapse saw the Dragons equalize, as the both Ospreys players charged towards the ball carrier, oblivious to players loose in the box. It was 1-1 at the break and the Ospreys were looking 'good value for money'. There were chances for both teams in the second half but, towards the end, Jack struck a low drive into the corner of the goal to break the deadlock. There was no coming back from that! Although the Ospreys were on the wrong side of the score line we can take heart from matching the Dragons in many departments. Personally I enjoyed watching this game. It was more entertaining than Middlesborough v Sheffield Utd the other night on the box!

UNDER 13s IN WITH A CHANCE
(28/02/08) The Ospreys have arranged an away match at Cemaes Bay for Sunday, 10.30 am kick off. It will be a tough game for the youngsters as they lost 5-0 in the home encounter. The Ospreys and the Red Dragons were due to meet in a friendly game at Cae Cob this evening. With only two league games remaining the Under 17s travel to Llanfair Scarlets on Saturday looking to consolidate second place behind champions-elect Holyhead. The Under 13s are now at home to Cemaes Bay on Saturday, kick-off 10.30 am at Cae Cob, and this is a game that they must have a chance of winning against a side with a similar record.

FOUR FROM JAMIE AS 17s GO NAP
(23/02/08) Glantraeth Under 17s beat Bontnewydd 5-0 at Cae Cob this morning with an excellent display in which every player played a full part although midfielder Jamie Aston (pictured above) stole the headlines with four goals. Matti Jones broke his recent goal drought by opening the scoring after 13 minutes and five minutes later Glan were two up as good play from Jason Edwards created the opening for Jamie's first. Bontnewydd were also contributing to what was an entertaining game despite the strong crosswind and were close to pulling a goal back on 20 minutes as keeper Paul Evans was called on to make a flying save from Caio Iwan (son of singer and politician Daffyd Iwan). Sean Davies came close to a third for the home side with 7 minutes of the half remaining with a shot from 25 yards that clipped the post but four minutes later Jamie got his second following a fine threaded pass from Dion (pictured right). Jason struck the crossbar eight minutes into the second period as Glan continued on top and two minutes later Matti scored what looked a perfectly good goal only for the referee, who otherwise had an excellent game, to accept a club linesman's claim that there had been a hand ball. It was a brief respite for the visitors as Jamie completed his hat-trick on 65 minutes. Matti, twice, and Kyle Liggins went close before Jamie completed the scoring two minutes from time. Photos now online.

WEEKEND REVIEW
(22/02/08) The Ospreys home game with Llandegfan scheduled for Saturday has been cancelled. Dave reports that there are two more training sessions at Bodedern School gym at 7 pm on Thursdays then training moves on to Cae Cob. The Under 17s entertain Bontnewydd tomorrow morning, kick-off 10.30 am and the Under 13s are away at Llanfair Swifts. Cogs reports no game this weekend for the Dragons.

MARCH FIXTURES RELEASED
(21/02/08) The Under 13s and Under 17s fixtures for next month have now been published. The Under 17s are away to Llanfair Scarlets on Saturday 1st March. At present no games are scheduled for the following two Saturdays with Cae Glyn the opponents at Malltraeth on Saturday 22nd March. The Under 13s have no game on 1st March and the following Saturday travel to Llandegfan Leopards in the 1st Round of the Alec Beech Memorial Shield. On Saturday 15th March they are at home to Amlwch and a week later travel to Cemaes Bay.

ALL SQUARE AT LLANFAIRPWLL
(17/02/08) This morning's meeting of the Red Dragons and Llanfair Hotshots ended all square at 0-0. Bojangles reports: A beautiful morning to watch a match so that was a plus with the usual warm welcome, it's never an easy game when the two teams in question meet and today was no different with the play see sawing from end to end but for me the Dragons keeper Carwyn was our man of the match pulling off some fine saves and taking command of his area well, that's not to say the Dragons didn't have their chances with three or four of the boys having good attempts at goal with their keeper stopping a fine shot from an early free kick, at the death the Dragons broke down field with a fine pass onto Jamie who was one on one with the keeper but just dragged the ball wide of the post, having said that I would have taken a draw half way through the 2nd half. As my old school reports used to say "Could do better" but it wasn't a loss, well played to both team's.
The Under 9 Juniors lost 4-1 to Llanfair Siarcod at Cae Cob this morning with Alex the scorer. With sufficient players now available the Under 9 Colts are now in action, losing today 1-0 against Valley. As reported the Colts won 1-0 at Llangefni last week with Callum getting the winning goal.

AWESOME DISPLAY BY OSPREYS
(17/02/08) Dave reports on yesterday's amazing fightback by the Ospreys: This was a simply awesome display of tenacity and belief from the Ospreys. Coming back from 3-1 down to win 3-4! Dion showed a master class of controlled football in the middle, Colin bossed the back and Gwern ran his socks off. I can honestly say this was a whole squad effort where all 12 players did their duty. At the start Glan sat back a little and Sbarcs took advantage and were first to score but Daniel soon scored an equaliser. The first half seemed to last forever and we went into half time 2-1 down. At the restart we conceded a third against the run of play. Spirits did not fade as we continued to try to pass and fight for every ball. Daniel looped a ball into the net and took us to 3-2. A little later a ball rebounded to Dion from a corner and he struck a pearler into the top right of the net and suddenly it was 3-3. About 5 minutes from the end Marcus netted after a goal mouth scramble. It was 3-4 and the boys closed the game in solid fashion. This was just reward for all the effort shown throughout the season. Previous league games have shown us unlucky to be on the wrong end of scorelines. We deserved this one! Llongyfarchiadau i'r pawb roedd yn chwarae! NB: The Under 17 and Under 13 fixtures were cancelled because of frozen pitches.

BLACKPOOL TRIP CANCELLED
(15/02/08) Dave informs us that the participation of the Under 11s in this year's Blackpool Tournament has been cancelled. He further explained: There were some communication problems with the event organiser. He had failed to reply to four emails and I constantly received an answering service on his landline. Eventually I did receive an email to the effect he was on a family holidays and had computer problems. He added he wanted the whole of the £3.600 fee up front, in the form of a personal cheque, on 20th March, with final numbers. He would only furnish our hotel details after receipt of these funds and our final numbers. I replied by explaining our collection was already geared to 20th April and we could only offer him a £900 deposit (a quarter) on 20th March and the balance on arrival. Alternatively, I offered to pay the full remittance on 20th March via Barclaycard. I then received an email stating 'Unfortunately your method of payment is unacceptable and we have therefore arranged for our cashier to refund your deposit'. I was not given any opportunity to respond. I am sorry to say there will be no Blackpool trip for us. I have discussed this issue with Robin. He stated that he will try to find an alternative and suggested I retain the deposits paid to me for the interum to see if some thing else can be arranged....Cheers Dave

WEEKEND ACTION
(14/02/08) The Ospreys are away to Llanfair Sbarcs on Saturday, kick-off 10.30 am, while the Red Dragons are also at Llanfairpwll to face the Hotshots on Sunday. At home are the Under 13s to Bodedern on Saturday (10.30 am) and the Under 9s who entertain Llanfair Siarcod on Sunday (11.00 am). In the first round of the R.S. Gardner Cup the Under 17s make the short journey to Llangefni.

ARON LEADS THE WAY WITH FOUR
(10/02/08) Robin reports on the weekend action: The Red Dragons drew 2-2 at home to Bro Benllech Moelfre this morning, a disappointing result as they were winning 2-0 at the break, Jamie scoring both. The visitors came back in the second period, taking advantage of two unnecessary free kicks and slack marking. The Under 9s completed a double over Llangefni, quickly running up a three goal lead through Aron and although Cefni pulled a goal back another goal from Aron in the first half made it 4-1 which proved the end of the scoring as the Glantraeth team lost their shape somewhat probably due to over-confidence. There was a good atmosphere at the game amongst both sets of parents. In a second game Glantraeth won 1-0. The Under 13s (pictured above) lost 9-0 at home to a strong Llandegfan Leopards outfit. After competing well early on it was again a late scoring burst by their opponents that made the scoreline appear less than flattering at the final whistle. Finally, the Ospreys played a friendly away to Trearddur Bay, losing 8-2.

SUPER KEEPER SAVES PENRHOS
(09/02/08) Martyn reports: The Under 17s can count themselves unlucky not to come away from Treborth without all three points. With constant pressure from Glantraeth the home side could not match the pace and passing, unfortunately for Glan they came up against a goalkeeper that made save after save - not Lucky, but outstanding - whether it was one on one's or shots from distance he was equal to the task. Matti Jones when he did beat the keeper found the far post and Kyle Liggins with a cracking left foot shot from outside the box saw the ball fly past the far post and another shot rebounded off the crossbar. HT 0-0. Five minutes into the second half the keeper again made two fine saves, first from Matti Jones then Jamie Aston, the ball fell in the path of Bryn Jones who hit an unstoppable shot into the net with the keeper beaten at last. More pressure from Glantraeth but no addition to the score. A quick throw on the right by Penrhos found the defence sleeping and Paul Evans in the Glan goal was left with no cover 1-1 as time drew to an end it was Penrhos who could have snatched all three points as a thunderous shot by the centre forward from 25 Yards crashed against the cross bar and rebounded to safety. Final Score 1-1.

ANYONE LOST A KEY?
(08/02/08) Robin found a key on the Junior's ground last week. Please see him if you know who it belongs to or want to claim it.

UNDER 13s FACE MASSIVE TASK
(07/02/08) The Under 9s are away to Llewod Llangefni this weekend and the Red Dragons at home to Bro Benllech Moelfre, kick-off 10.30 am Sunday. The Under 13s entertain Llandegfan Leopards on Saturday morning. It is a huge task for Kenny's boys who suffered their heaviest defeat of the season at Llandegfan earlier in the season. The Under 17s travel to Penrhosgarnedd looking to make it six league wins on the trot. The Ospreys have cancelled Sunday training and agreed to play a friendly away to Trearddur Bay, 10.45 am Saturday.

EASY WIN FOR UNDER 17s
(02/02/08) Martyn reports: No game is ever easy, but the U17s cruised to victory over local rivals Llangefni. Playing on the senior's pitch for the first time in the league they showed just how to use the wider pitch and were constantly on the attack throughout the game. After 18 minutes a corner from the left was cleared out to Carl Edwards, who coolly hit the ball past the visiting keeper. Five minutes later it was 2-0 when Matti Jones crossed from the right and a clever dummy by Jason Edwards found Jamie Aston who placed the ball wide of the keeper for a precise finish. HT: 2-0. The second half started with Glantraeth constantly on the attack, the score could have been greater with Scott Hughes and Matti Jones having chance after chance that either hit the post or was saved by the Llangefni keeper. The third soon came after a corner taken from the right fell kindly in the box for Huw Williams to poke home, similarly the fourth came from a goalmouth scramble that Sean Davies poked home. The fifth and final goal came from Kyle Liggins who cut in from the right and hit an unstopable drive past the keeper. Paul Evans in the Glantraeth goal only had a handful of saves to make as the defence stood solid. A good result that helps the boys strive for the runners-up Spot in the league, helped by the fact Bontnewydd and Felinheli drew 2-2. Photos supplied by Jon Morris now online.

PROUD TO BE AN OSPREY
(02/02/08) Dave reports: The whole twelve man squad and supporters are fully committed to our team. It showed today in a dominant display as our boys bossed a tenacious Holyhead side in most areas of the pitch for large slices of the game. Playing with the elements we forced the young Holyhead side completely onto the back foot. Towards the end of the first half Daniel scored a great goal, a left footed half volley into the top left corner (captured n video!). This was after a superb looping left footed cross from Jon Pommerening. Alas that eventually proved to be our only reward for our efforts. Unfortunately for us Holyhead replied immediately owing to a lack of concentration, whilst the boys were still euphoric after scoring. Amazingly It was only 1-1 at the break and we had failed to press home our advantage. Changes were made for the 2nd half. Before the new boys had time to settle a missed header allowed the sharp Holyhead striker behind our defence again to score a second. I heard Victor Meldrew shout, 'I don't believe it!' several times or was it me or Cliff? There after we pressed forwards. Holyhead looked to cause us problems on the break but they were well marshalled. Two small defensive lapses lost us this game which was a high price to pay. Well done to both teams who provided a fair contest and displayed exciting and entertaining spectacle. Thanks to everyone who took part including the tea ladies who raised 15! No match next week. Training 11am Sunday 10th Feb at Cae Cob.

WEEKEND PREVIEW
(01/02/08) The Ospreys home fixture with Holyhead has been arranged for Saturday at Cae Cob, kick-off 11.45 am. The Under 13s are away to Llangefni while the Under 17s home derby with Cefni has been switched to the first team pitch at Trefdraeth with a 10.30 am kick-off. The Red Dragons are at home to Holyhead Sunday morning and the Under 9s are away to Holyhead.

CHELSEA'S IN THE MONEY
(28/01/08) Somewhat belatedly here are the results of January's Monthly Draw made at the last committee meeting. The 25 first prize was won by Chelsea Roberts (No.50) with B.Roberts of Bangor (No.1) picking up the 15 second prize. The 10 winning ticket (No.51) was unsold telling you there are still some tickets for sale so see Robin, Karen or a team manager if you want to join and support the kids.

DRAGONS DRAW WITH CEFNI
(27/01/08) Robin reports on today's games: The Dragons travelled to face unbeaten Llangefni Juniors and for the second time this season fought out a draw, this time 0-0. An even first half saw Andrew Jones hit the post for the home side with Ryan squirting a shot just wide for Glantraeth. After the break Ryan again went close with Carwyn in the Dragons' goal having to pull off a fine save late in the game to deny Llangefni the win. It was a real team performance with Jake again outstanding and Dion and Aled deserving of mention. Cae Cob was looking in fine condition this afternoon after being cut and marked with the Under 9s going down 3-1 to Llangefni after a goal from Alex had given Glantraeth a deserved first half lead. Despite having Daniel and Sam missing the boys played well but the visitors equalised midway through the second period as their fitness through playing more games recently told and two late goals gave them victory.

PATCHY DISPLAY FROM OSPREYS
(26/01/08) Dave reports Llangefni 4 Ospreys 0: We played into a strong wind during the first half. The boys stuck to their task well but conceded a couple of fortuitous goals to go 3-0 down at the break. Such was the advantage of the elements I didn't believe the lead was insurmountable. Alas, we had to wait until the final 10 minutes for us to come out of our shell with the full backs pressing properly. It was now 4-0, as we laid siege on the Llangefni goal. Spurned chances and good Llangefni goalkeeping caused us to draw a blank. Over all this was a patchy performance. A 100% effort, for the whole game, is required if we are to improve our results. We have 12 players and every one will be given a good slice of every match. Everybody had some good spells but those named stood out for effort this time: Daniel, Gwern, Harri, Jamie, Guto and John (Iffy in patches!).

SO UNLUCKY FOR GLAN
(26/01/08) A goal two minutes from time from Asa Thomas gave Holyhead a 1-0 victory in an Under 17 Coast Cup quarter-final that Glantraeth never deserved to lose, only the woodwork, the heroics of Holyhead first team keeper Elliot Smith (pictured right) and the refusal of a blatant second half penalty preventing Hotspur going down to their first defeat of the season. Glan keeper Paul Evans had hardly a shot to save throughout while Smith at the other end turned in a man of the match performance. Matti Jones almost put Glan ahead in the first half as he saw his shot thud against the crossbar then Jamie Aston and Carl Edwards both failed to cash in on unmarked headers from good positions. Three tremendous saves in a two minute spell by Smith early in the second half kept Holyhead in the game then Matti Jones was clearly tripped in the area but the whistle did not come. With time almost up there was heartbreak for Glan after such a good performance as Thomas got behind the defence and finished well with a lob over Evans.

WEEKEND ACTION
(25/01/08) Mike reports that the Under 17's Coast Cup game at Holyhead will be played at Peibio tomorrow morning. Dave has been on to say that the Ospreys are playing away to Llangefni Juniors on Saturday at the Cricket Ground, kick-off 11.00 am. The Under 13s are due to be at home to Holyhead Peibio tomorrow morning and the Under 9s at home to Llangefni Juniors B (Sunday 2.00 pm). The Red Dragons are also scheduled to meet Llangefni away.

LET'S GIVE THEM OUR SUPPORT
(22/01/08) Next Saturday morning, weather permitting, the Under 17s travel to face Holyhead Hotspur Peibio for a place in the semi-finals of the North Wales Coast FA Cup. It is a massive test for the lads against a team that have won every league and cup game this season but we have enjoyed periods of supremacy in both league games between the two clubs despite losing and with a good performance and good support there is a feeling we can reverse previous results this time. Regarding the Under 17s we have been informed by the Anglesey Junior League that our players cannot sign or play for Glantraeth first team without ruling them out of playing in youth competitions in this age bracket. We are trying to clarify this rule as it appears that it is not being enforced as it supposedly should.

NEXT MONTH'S FIXTURES OUT
(21/01/08) The Verdant Anglesey Junior League have released February's fixtures for the Under 13s and the Under 17s. The Under 17s host Llangefni Juniors on Saturday 2nd February and the following weekend are away to Penrhosgarnedd. In the first round of the R.S.Gardner Cup Glan face Llangefni again on Saturday 16th February, this time away from home, and finish off the month with a visit from Bontnewydd. The Under 13s are away to Llangefni Juniors on 2nd February followed by Llandegfan Leopards home then Bodedern home and then travel to face Llanfair Swifts on the final Saturday of the month.

OSPREYS OFF
(20/01/08) Dave reports that this morning's Ospreys' game has been called off to protect the juniors pitch at Malltraeth.

EVEN CAE COB IS STRUGGLING
(17/01/08) So much rain has fallen this week that even the juniors' ground at Malltraeth is struggling to cope with surface water now clearly visible on some areas of the pitch meaning there must be a serious doubt that the Under 17s home game with Llangefni can go ahead on Saturday. The Under 13s are scheduled to be at Cemaes Bay. There may be enough 'dry land' to accommodate small-sided games with the Red Dragons due to be at home on Sunday at 10.30 am and the Ospreys at home to Valley Juniors also on Sunday, kick-off 11.00 am (refreshments available). The Under 9s are at Trearddur Bay weather permitting. Dave wants to remind parents that final numbers/names and deposits are required asap for the U11's Blackpool trip. He will be at the Red Dragons home game on Saturday. People who want a form or wish to hand him their deposits can do so then. He has extended the cut-off point to 21st Jan owing to communication problems, etc. He needs to supply the event organiser with accommodation forms for the Hotel before the 23rd Jan! Robin has been in touch to say that there are now Glantraeth Juniors' Beannie Hats available this weekend at 5 each. A bargain.

WIN ONE - LOSE ONE
(12/01/08) In games played today the Under 17s won 2-0 away at Amlwch with spectacular strikes from Sean Davies and Jamie Aston and the Under 13s lost 5-1 at home to Llangoed.

COMMITTEE MEETING MONDAY
(11/01/08) There is a Juniors' Committee Meeting next Monday evening (14th January) at Ysgol Bodorgan, 7.00 pm start. Please try and attend as there are several important issues to discuss.

FULL WEEKEND SCHEDULE
(10/01/08) Despite being surrounded by flood water in all directions Cae Cob, the pitch that soaks up water like a sponge, was in perfect condition today ready for the weekend's fixtures. The Under 13s entertain Llangoed on Saturday morning wth the Red Dragons and the Under 17s scheduled to be away to Amlwch. The Under 9s are at home to Amlwch on Sunday, kick-off 10.30 am. Bro Benllech Moelfre have cancelled the Ospreys away match with them owing to 'their grass being too long.' It is hoped they will play us at the end of the league season.

LIAM STRIKES IN FINAL MINUTE
(07/01/08) A tremendous last minute strike into the top corner from Liam Vaughan Jones gave the Under 9s a 1-1 draw at Menai Bridge yesterday. It was a one sided game that a Glantraeth side depleted by flu should have won but smaller than usual goals made scoring and making that dominance count very difficult.

GLAN TO FACE HOLYHEAD
(05/01/08) In the quarter-final of the NWCFA Cup Glantraeth Under 17s will now be away to Holyhead Peibio on Saturday 26th January. Holyhead this morning beat Bontnewydd 4-0 to keep up their 100% record this season.

LATE GOAL CRUEL ON OSPREYS
(05/01/08) After losing the first game between the two teams 6-0 the Ospreys knew they had a tough task on down at Cae Cob this morning against unbeaten Trearddur Bay but a herculean effort saw them go so close to snatching a deserved draw before losing 2-1 to a late goal. Playing with the wind the Ospreys took the game to Bay in the first period and a series of attacks came so close to giving them the lead before they finally broke through just before the break as Harri converted Gwern's cross from the right. Up against the elements the Ospreys had to draw on their defensive qualities in the second period as Bay stormed forward, finally drawing level midway through the half. With just over four minutes remaining the visitors sneaked a winner, cruel reward for a tremendous display that must have delighted Dave and Cliff.

BLACKPOOL 2008 TOURNAMENT
(04/01/08) Dave writes: The coaches of the U11's teams have provisionally agreed to enter a Glantraeth Juniors U11 side in the above tournament to be held on May 3rd and May 4th 2008. The Red Dragons and Ospreys will combine resources to assemble an 11 a-side team/squad. The team will play at least 6 matches. The price includes 2 nights B&B and evening meal at one of the 13 sponsored Blackpool front, Hotels. Full details are included in the attached poster (download here) or from your coach. Together, we will try to raise money to help finance this venture and reduce the final cost to the players. A minimum ratio of 1 adult per 3 children is needed. Names and a 15 deposit is required asap, (before January 16th)...Many Thanks Dave W

OSPREYS RETURN TO ACTION
(02/01/08) One game confirmed for this weekend is the Ospreys home game with Trearddur Bay that kicks off at midday on Saturday. The away fixture ended in a 6-0 win for Bay but the Ospreys showed metal in the second half and will be hoping for better this time. Dave reports that the players v coaches & parents game last weekend ended 6-6 with the players winning after a penalty shoot out. There are rumours of an Easter re-match.

GAME BACK TO SUNDAY
(28/12/07) Because the weather forecast is wind and rain for tomorrow the managers/parents v players game has now been put back to Sunday, kick-off 1.30 pm. Let's hope for a good turnout.

JANUARY FIXTURES
(27/12/07) The Under 13s and Under 17s fixtures have been released for January. Neither team have a game on Saturday 5th January but the Under 17s are away to Amlwch the following Saturday followed by Llangefni Juniors at home on the 19th. The last Saturday of the month sees the quarter final of the NWCFA Cup when Glantraeth travel to face the winners of Holyhead Peibio or Bontnewydd which has still not been decided. The Under 13s entertain Llangoed on the 12th, followed by Cemaes Bay away then Holyhead Peibio at home.

SHOWDOWN AT CAE COB
(24/12/07) Slowly details are beginning to emerge of the game between the managers/parents and the players that will take place next Saturday, 29th December, at Cae Cob, kick-off 1.30 pm. The players will consist of four under 11s, four under 13s and four under 17s according to Cogs and the rules are still being written as we speak!

JACK'S GOAL PROVES WINNER
(23/12/07) A second half goal from Jack gave the Dragons a one goal victory over Amlwch this morning at Cae Cob. The first half was a fairly even affair but the Dragons dominated after the break and would have won by more if they had taken their chances. The goal came following a ball downfield by Carwyn that was picked up by Ryan who set up Jamie for a shot that was half saved with Jack following up to score. Our reporter at the game tells us that another highlight of the second half came when Bob tried to head the ball back only to fall over the water bottles and land flat on his **se!

SEASON'S GREETINGS
(23/12/07) Happy Christmas to the players, parents, officials and sponsors of Glantraeth Juniors and all our friends in the Verdant Anglesey Junior Football League.

ADVANTAGE HOTSHOTS
(16/12/07) This morning's game between the Red Dragons and Llanfair Hotshots played in freezing conditions at Cae Cob ended in a 2-1 win for the visitors. Ryan put the Dragons ahead but the Hotshots soon levelled and a goal in the second half gave them victory. Robin reports that they adapted to the conditions better and just about deserved their win.

LET'S HEAR IT FOR THE UNDER 13s
(15/12/07) The Under 13s finally made it this morning by winning 3-2 at Cae Cob against Trearddur Bay Colts for their first league win of the season. Congratulations to Kenny and the boys for sticking at it through what has been a tough learning curve and getting their just reward. Sylvester writes: I was so glad to be at Cae Cob this morning to witness the under 13s winning a match. It was a fully deserved win, outplaying their opponents with their passing and movement around the field. These lads have shown that with determination and team effort anything is possible. They are a young team and will develop further this season, giving them experience ready for next season. They work hard, and never give up. I would also like to congratulate the managers for their hard work in training and for having faith in the boys, even if they win or loose. This win today meant so much to the lads, one even said it was their best Christmas present! WELL DONE LADS, YOU ARE A GREAT BUNCH, GOOD LUCK WITH THE REST OF THE SEASON. FROM A PROUD SUPPORTER.

SENSATIONAL LATE SHOW WINS IT
(15/12/07) 3-1 down with little more than fifteen minutes remaining it looked all over for Glantraeth Under 17s at Felinheli this morning only for a dramatic late turnaround that saw them score three times to run out 4-3 winners. They could have hardly started in worse fashion as a weak clearance led to the home side taking the lead after just 23 seconds. Glan levelled on 27 minutes through a tremendous volley from Ben Hull (pictured left). Two goals in a minute midway through the second period seemed to have settled the game in Felinhelis favour but they reckoned without the battling qualities of Glantraeth. The fightback started on 74 minutes as a superb through ball from Jamie Ashton gave Matti Jones a clear run on goal and although his first effort came back off a post he was able to finish at the second attempt. A minute later Felinheli half cleared a Ben Hull free kick and Sean Davies swooped to smash a low shot through a crowd of players and past the keeper. With three minutes remaining there were jubilant scenes as Scott Hughes struck from close range to score the winner and give Glan the double over the Gwynedd side.

UNDER 13s ENTERTAIN BAY COLTS
(13/12/07) The Under 13s look for their first league points of the season on Saturday morning when Trearddur Bay Colts are the visitors to Malltraeth, kick-off 10.30 am. The youngsters have given a good account of themselves for long periods of several games before conceding late goals that have hardly done their performance justice but the game against the Colts earlier in the season was a fairly close run affair and they must have a chance. Glantraeth Under 17s have a tough game at Felinheli who have only lost one game all season and that was against Glantraeth back in September! The lads currently lie in second place behind Holyhead who have a 100% record. Matti Jones (pictured) and Scott Hughes are both on 8 goals for the season and will be looking to add to their tally on Saturday. Kick-off is 10.30 am. No confirmation yet as to whether the Red Dragons have a game this weekend.

100 CLUB WINNERS
(11/12/07) The 100 Club draw was made at the weekend for the past four months. Anyone having money still owing please get to Robin or Karen as soon as possible.

A REAL THRILLER AT CAE COB
(09/12/07) Rarely will Cae Cob see a better game than this as the Red Dragons and Llangefni Juniors finished one apiece this morning. It was a thrilling end-to-end encounter throughout with some great skill and commitment on display. Ryan gave the Dragons an early lead only for Cefni to level two minutes later and that's how it remained 'til the interval. The visitors came out strongly after the break and Carwyn made two great blocks then the Dragons began to threaten at the other end. With both sides going for the winner Glantraeth almost won it at the death as Ryan freed Cameron who found the keeper well positioned to save.

GLANTRAETH 3 DENBIGH TOWN 2
(08/12/07) In what was likely the only game of football to be played on Anglesey today both teams should take great credit for a battling performance. Martyn reports: Despite playing against a fierce wind Glantraeth constantly put Denbigh Town under pressure and after 35 minutes a low shot from outside the box saw Scott Hughes beat the diving keeper to make it 1-0. Thats how it stayed until half time. In the second half again Glantraeth made all the early running and persistance by Matti Jones saw him get to the ball before the opposition keeper and guide it into the net 2-0. The boys then forgot everything the manager had told them and decided to take the sky route which saw the ball drift everywhere, this followed a disputed free kick which some thought should have gone the other way. From the resulting free kick the slippery ball went through the keeper's gloves and the pressure was on. 10 minutes from time Denbigh equalised having got a lucky rebound from a clearance, this time Paul Evans in goal had no chance 2-2. This shocked the boys into life and saw first Jamie Aston shave the cross bar, Scott Hughes and Sean Davies going close and from a corner a scramble and from a header from Ben Hull the visiting keeper tipped the ball over. Extra time again saw pressure from the home side with very few attacks really troubling Paul Evans. The second period kicked off and within seconds the ball was played back to Carl Edwards who hit the ball high with the wind the ball bounced and deceived the keeper who was then in a race with Scott Hughes who was following up to tap the ball home. Thats how it stayed to the end with both teams having a few chances. However with the rain and the wind falling the final whistle went and both teams congratulated each other. NB: In the next round Glantraeth are now away to Bontnewydd or Holyhead Hotspur Peibio who play next Saturday.

17s GO FOR LAST EIGHT
(07/12/07) The Under 17's delayed North Wales Coast FA Cup game against Denbigh Town takes place at Malltraeth tomorrow morning kick-off 10.30 am with the heavy rain having had little effect on the Cae Cob pitch. The Under 13s were due to play Bodedern at Gwalchmai but this game has now been called off. The Red Dragons have a game with Llangefni on Sunday.

BLOWN AWAY
(01/12/07) Despite the heroics of John in goal the Ospreys went down 5-0 to an impressive Cemaes Bay side this morning at Cae Cob. In very windy conditions the youngsters battled gamely to keep Bay out for long periods but the pressure finally told with a goal in the last minute making it five for the visitors. Dave reports: Ospreys struggled in the gale and had little confidence to link up any passing. Cemaes were larger, quicker and a more competitive and a better drilled team. They moved quickly onto slow/loose balls and overwelmed us in the second half playing with the elements.Credit to all our boys who fought on to the final whistle showing real spirit to keep the score down. There was some last ditch defending by the Ospreys. A team with lesser characters would have completely folded. Clearly the big footballing teams in our league are the two 'Bays' so we must accept this and move forwards. To sum up our league season, at this half way stage, I would say: 4 fairly close matches, 2 sound defeats, 2 good results. As we were only formed at the start of the season, Not too bad. Mark awarded C+. I know we can improve in 2008. We continue to keep as many involved as possible, whilst trying to remain competitive. We have 5 youngsters who will be useful players for next years U11's. Hopefully some of our older boys will be considered for the U13's team in the next 2 years. A big thank you to Robin and everyone for sorting out a new kit for us, the boys had wide eyes when they saw it. They cannot wait to wear it.

C'MON...GIVE US A GAME!
(30/11/07) Two of Glan's younger players are pictured in fancy dress challenging the managers, Bob, Cogs, Webbo, Cliff, Kenny, Rhys, Mike and Geraint (and maybe some under 17s?) to a fundraising game before Christmas. So come on fellas, get your panto gear on and "give us a game".

WEEKEND PREVIEW
(29/11/07) Through no fault of our own we have been forced into a situation where the Under 17s now have no game this weekend, and to say we are not best pleased would be an understatement, so it will be the Ospreys on Cae Cob on Saturday morning when they entertain Cemaes Bay, kick-off 11.15 am. Please give them your support. The Under 13s face another tough challenge away to Holyhead Peibio on Saturday, kick-off 10. 30 am.

NWCFA CALL 17s GAME OFF
(27/11/07) Saturday's Under 17 Coast Cup game at home to Denbigh Town Youth has been put back seven days following a decision by the North Wales Coast FA after Denbigh claimed they had 'transportation problems.' We have received no satisfactory explanation as to why they should have 'transportation problems' this Saturday but not the following Saturday.

CHRISTMAS BINGO
(26/11/07) Glantraeth Juniors' Christmas Bingo takes place at Ysgol Bodorgan on Friday 7th December, 6.30 pm for a 7.00 pm start. As ever your support will be much appreciated. Prizes and helpers on the night are still wanted. Please contact Robin. On the same night the first 100 Club monthly draw will be made.

DISAPPOINTING FROM OSPREYS
(25/11/07) Dave reports Llandegfan Leopards 5 Ospreys 2: Spirit and mind was lacking at the start of this game. Muddy conditions made the going slippy and uncomfortable which dampened the mood further. It was a bit of a shock to the system to suddenly experience this having just come out of a warm bed. The Leopards went into an early lead with a fairly simple goal. This sparked some life into the Ospreys and Dylan slotted home in an immediate response. The Leopards scored two more goals before half time, at least one of these should have been dealt with. After half time the Ospreys tried to press forwards but were caught out on the break, by a quicker Llandegfan midfield, who ran through the defence to net a further 2 goals. The better football came from Ospreys in the last quarter and a fantastic passing move down the right and a shot by Sion saw the ball spill to Dylan who slotted home again. The Ospreys came close to scoring a third several times and they managed not to concede further goals after better goalkeeping. The Ospreys can only rue that more consistency and a 100% effort from all would have probably reaped better rewards.

17s CRUISE TO VICTORY
(24/11/07) Martyn reports: The Under 17s were hardly troubled in their 3-1 victory over Penrhosgarnedd with the woodwork, four times, and five excellent saves by the visiting keeper saving the visitors from being routed. Penrhos should have taken the lead after 10 minutes when Sean Davies was adjudged to pull back an attacker in the box, however the penalty hit the post and the follow up was sent wide. Glantraeth took the lead after 25 minutes when Matti Jones fed the ball to Scott Hughes who coolly slotted it past the approaching keeper. Five minutes later the defence where guilty of not playing to the whistle when they stood still expecting an offside flag it did not come and Penrhos made it one apiece. In the second half with the wind at their backs Glantraeth piled on the pressure and after 57 minutes some good work down the left the ball was crossed in and found Jamie Aston on the edge of the box who cracked the ball into the net. The Penrhos keeper then made a string of excellent saves, first a bullet shot from Matti Jones, a powerful header from Ben Hull, a one-on-one with Scott Hughes and a long range effort from Jason Edwards. However, he was finally beaten and by a great goal. Matti Jones received the ball outside the penalty area and blasted a shot that rebounded of the crossbar to Jamie Aston who himself was 20 yds from goal, he shot and put the game out of reach of the opposition. A good result despite the blustery conditions.

17s HOME - 9s & OSPREYS AWAY
(22/11/07) Despite the heavy rain this week the pitch at Malltraeth has soaked up water like a sponge and is perfectly playable for Saturday's Under 17 fixture at home to Penrhosgarnedd. Kick-off is 10.30 am. The Under 13s are scheduled to be away to Llandegfan Leopards as are the Ospreys who have a good chance of a result against a team with a similar record. That game takes place on Sunday with an 11.00 am kick-off.

DECEMBER FIXTURES
(20/11/07) Under 13 and Under 17 fixtures have now been released for December by the Verdant Anglesey Junior League. Following their NWCFA Cup game at home to Denbigh Town on Saturday 1st December the Under 17s will be away to Llanfair Scarlets the following week and on Saturday 15th December visit Felinheli. The Under 13s travel to Holyhead Hotspur Peibio on 1st December followed by Bodedern home and Trearddur Bay Colts home on 15th December. There will be no fixtures on 22nd and 29th December.

LATE GOALS HARSH ON UNDER 9s
(18/11/07) The Under 9s lost 5-1 at Llanfair Siarcod this morning. Two nil down at the interval a goal from Jamie early in the second half gave Glantraeth hope but two late goals from the home side clinched victory. Although Llanfair passed the ball better and deserved their win the scoreline was harsh on a Glan side who worked hard although their final ball often let them down.

HOME DRAW FOR 17s
(18/11/07) In the Third Round of the North Wales Coast FA Cup Glantraeth Under 17s have been drawn at home to Denbigh Town Juniors. The tie is scheduled to be played Saturday 1st December. League fixtures for December are expected early this week.

1-1 OSPREYS
(17/11/07) The Ospreys met Llanfair Sbarcs on a bitterly cold morning with the game ending honours even. Cliff (pictured suffering from hypothermia) reckons Glan edged the game but had to be satisfied with a 1-1 draw. The Ospreys goal was scored by Dylan, aka 'Rooney.' The scheduled Red Dragons fixture was not played.

YOUNG 'UNS CENTRE STAGE
(15/11/07) Due to the Wales v Republic of Ireland Euro 2008 qualifier there are no Under 17 or Under 13 games on Saturday so it is the Under 11s and Under 9s who take centre stage. It has been confirmed that the Ospreys will be at home to Llanfair Sbarcs on Saturday, kick-off 11.30 am. The Red Dragons are scheduled to be at home to local rivals, Llanfair Hotshots, and the Under 9s are due to travel to face Llanfair Siarcod on Sunday.

GOOD WORKOUT FOR OSPREYS
(12/11/07) Without a league fixture over the weekend the Ospreys had a friendly with Llanfair Hotshots on Sunday morning that ended 1-1. Dave reports: Sion 'La una habil' , 'the skillful one' scored our goal after another good performance by the side. This could easilly have been double figures if only the finishing was on target. Every player did his duty today. Dion and Daniel figured highly for me and carried the game to Llanfair. The defence was mean but lost composure at times. Matthew on his debut acquitted himself well. A good soild performance but we missed 'El rapido,' 'the fast one' Gwern and 'El jovenes,'' the young ones.'

DRAGONS IN WINNING FORM
(11/11/07) Bojangles reports: From kick-off the boys ripped into Benllech time and time again with some great passing, wave after wave of attacks going up field towards the Benllech goal mainly through Jack on the right wing it was only going to be a matter of time before the Dragons found the net which they did after Iwan blasted a shot that the goalie could only parry out to the feet of Ryan who buried it into the back of the goal. Not long after the Dragons worked up the pitch again with Iwan taking a shot which hit the post and out, first to react was Ryan who again made no mistake by slotting the ball home taking the Dragons into half time 2-0 up. The second half started and the boys again as last week against Holyhead looked to ease off though Dion drilled the ball from long range and hit the bar and in 3-0 up, slowly Benllech started to string some attacks together with one of their players taking a long range shot that Carwyn struggled to deal with making it 3-1, the boys worked another up field move with Jamie steering in the fourth, then the Dragons had a bad 10 mins or so towards the end which saw them playing ragged football again they payed the price by not clearing resulting in an own goal. Final score: Dragons 4 Bro Benllech Moelfre Colts 2.

ARON LEADS WAY WITH THREE
(11/11/07) The Under 9s overcame Llewod Llangefni this afternoon by four goals to one in a sparkling exhibition with Aron celebrating with a hat-trick and Jamie also on target. Strong at the back with Owen and Daniel giving Cefni little sight of goal it was an excellent team performance that must have delighted Dyfed and Gareth. Thanks also to Karen for getting the refreshment caravan up and running for the first time, another useful fundraiser for the various teams as well as a source of sustinence on a cold day.

17s BACK TO WINNING WAYS
(10/11/07) Martyn reports: Glantraeth got back to winning ways away to a very competent Bontnewydd side. After the first 20 minutes all indications looked like another disappointing day for the boys with Bontnewydd passing and moving and piling on early pressure. On 25 minutes some slick passing finally saw Jason Edwards head the ball into the path of Matti Jones who coolly slotted it past the keeper. Bont still attacked and equalised on 30 minutes after a through ball left Carl Edwards on his own with 2 players to mark. Five minutes later Glantraeth were back in front when Ben Hull (pictured) caught a defender in possession, won the tackle and netted from just inside the penalty area. HT 1-2. Glantraeth came out in the second half and played like they finished the first and like they started the season, slick passing and attacking with pace. Ten minutes in and a through ball by Jamie Aston saw Matti Jones in again on the keeper to bag his sixth league goal of the season. Some good work down the left and Bont were in trouble again Matti Jones won the ball and passed to an unmarked Jamie Aston on the edge of the penalty area who drilled it past the keeper. The Manager ensured all players got a game and Glantraeth ran out worthy winners by four goals to one.

BRAVE EFFORT FROM UNDER 13s
(10/11/07) The Under 13s went out of the Coast Cup this morning, losing 6-2 to Penrhosgarnedd, but it could have been so different if they had taken their chances during a second period in which they put the visitors under tremendous pressure. Playing against the wind in the first half Glan were only losing to a 20th minute penalty approaching the interval but two late goals gave the visitors a three goal half-time advantage. Nathan Moore quickly pulled a goal back for Glan and they could easily have pulled level with the chances created but a fourth for Penrhosgarnedd just about sealed the tie. A late goal from Dafydd Harris made it 6-2.

13s LOOK TO MAKE PROGRESS
(08/11/07) Top billing this week goes to the Under 13s who entertain Penrhosgarnedd in the third round of the North Wales Coast FA Cup. Kick-off at Cae Cob is 10.30 am on Saturday. The Under 17s are at Bontnewydd, kick-off 10.30 am on Saturday. The Red Dragons travel to face Bro Benllech Moelfre Colts on Sunday, kick-off 1.00 pm. The Under 9s, now sponsored by Royal Mail, will be looking to deliver on Sunday when Llewod Llangefni will be the visitors. That game now kicks-off at 12.30 pm. The Ospreys with no league fixture have arranged a friendly at home to Llanfair Hotshots kick-off 11.30 am on Sunday.

COMMITTEE MEETING THURSDAY
(05/11/07) A reminder that there is a Juniors Club committee meeting at Ysgol Bodorgan next Thursday (8th November), 7.30 pm start.

GWERN'S GOAL NOT ENOUGH
(04/11/07) Dave reports Holyhead 2 Ospreys 1 in his own inimitable style: Ospreys arrived early for this encounter and were fortunate to see some of the Red Dragons game, and some of the players they'd be up against! Holyhead started at a high tempo thinking they could run through the Ospreys. Not so ....game on! Glan weathered the initial surge and started to cause Holyhead a few problems too. Pressure eventually paid off for Holyhead and Glan were one goal down at half time. In the second half Glan took the game to Holyhead more, losing their shape a little. It was after one of these forays that Holyhead regained possession and scored on the break. Glan soldiered on and Gwern Ap Rhobat slotted one in from close range after a good move up field. Glan had some good opportunities but the equaliser was just out of reach. 'El jovenes' Jamie and Marcus 'played well!'. Daniel, 'El Fuerte', good tackling, Gwern 'El rapido', 'deserved his goal'. Dion, ' El Capitan', in charge. John 'El Grande stood up in goal. Colin and Guto ' Los dos amigos', real stoppers..Sion 'La una habil' played his heart out..Good !

DRAGONS JUST EDGED OUT
(04/11/07) The Red Dragons lost out 3-2 at Holyhead this morning in a tremendous game that swung from end to end throughout. A draw would have been a fairer result as the Dragons twice hit the crossbar in the later stages through Cameron Owen and Jamie Roberts. Two first half goals within a minute from Osian Jones had given Glan the best possible start but the home side quickly pulled a goal back and then drew level early in the second half before taking the lead for the first time. Despite the Dragon's brave fightback they couldn't get the all important goal they deserved. Team photo now on Red Dragons page.

GLAN PAY FOR ERRORS
(03/11/07) A harsh scoreline for Glantraeth's Under 17s this morning as they went down 4-0 to Holyhead Peibio. The visitors were the better side in the first period and deservedly led by a goal at half-time but Glan were well on top after the break and looked to be heading for an equaliser only for two poor clearances to be punished by some slick finishing from Peibio that left the lads with a mountain to climb.

17s FACE LEAGUE LEADERS
(01/11/07) Holyhead Hotspur Peibio Under 17s are the visitors to Cae Cob on Saturday for a game Glan need to win if they are to keep in touch with the visitors who have won every game. Kick-off is 11.30 am. The Red Dragons will be looking for a return to action at Holyhead Peibio. To date they have played two, won two, with no goals conceded. The Ospreys are also away to Holyhead. That game will be played at Holyhead Leisure Centre on Sunday, kick-off 11.00 am. To complete a series of games with Holyhead the Under 9s are due to be at home to Peibio this weekend (day/time to be confirmed). The Under 13s travel to Amlwch for a game put back from last week looking for their first league points.

MORE GROUND NEWS
(31/10/07) The caravan has now been moved to the ground that will be used for serving refreshments once connected to services. Whoever acquired it for next-to-nothing has played a blinder as it is perfect for the job.

SCORELINE TOUGH ON OSPREYS
(27/10/07) Dave reports Ospreys 0 Cefni Celts 3 - Another good display from the boys saw them run Cefni close. The score flattered Cefni as Glan had a good part of this game matching Cefni in most departments. The first goal came after 17 minutes which Cefni deserved following several late attacks. The boys came in for half time having battled for every inch of the pitch unable to take advantage of their opportunities. In the second half Dion Williams was strong and passing well and Gwern ran for miles. Dion was behind many attacks as he orchestrated events in midfield. Glan were passing well and got into some good positions but failed to get the last strike on goal. At one point I thought an equaliser was on the cards as the Cefni goal area became a 'Pin Ball Machine'. Glan were always vulnerable to the counter attacks as they pressed for an equaliser. The 2nd goal came as our goalie allowed a bouncing ball to spill. A Cefni player was quick to find the net. It was disheartening to concede from an error rather than good play. Glan frustrated Cefni as they refused to roll over and kept playing some decent football. Tempers flared as Cefni came in with some heavy challenges. Some changes were made which ultimately resulted in Glan conceding a soft third. Ospreys are becoming more streetwise and the team are managing their game better. Simple mistakes and wrong options are creeping into play less. Remember the 3 C's..Controlled aggression, Concentration, Communication. Quote 'A hard run for six may save another a run of sixty' - Ron Atkinson.

WEEKEND PREVIEW
(25/10/07) Local derby games with Llangefni dominate the weekend fixtures although the Red Dragons game at home to Llangefni Juniors has been cancelled. The Ospreys are at home to Cefni Celts on Saturday, kick-off 11.00 am, when anyone who hasn't played so far will get an opportunity to be included in this fixture. The Under 9s are away to Llangefni Juniors on Saturday, kick-off 2.00 pm at Ysgol Corn Hir. The Under 17s were due to play Blaenau Ffestiniog on Glantraeth's main pitch in the NW Coast Cup but their opponents have withdrawn so Glan get a walkover into the third round. The Under 13 fixture has also been cancelled as their opponents Amlwch have asked for a free date. In the third round of the Under 13 NWCFA Cup the Under 13s have another home tie when CPB Penrhosgarnedd B will be the vistors to Malltraeth on Saturday 10th November. Next month's fixtures for the Under 17s and Under 13s are now online.

SHOCK DEFEAT FOR 17s
(24/10/07) The Under 17s went down to a surprise 2-1 defeat this evening to Cae Glyn at Caernarfon Town's Oval ground. Matti Jones gave Glantraeth the lead on 27 minutes as he reacted quickly to steal in and head home but two goals in two minutes put the home side ahead as they shaded the first period. Three minutes after the break Matti Jones had a penalty saved and despite constant second half pressure and several near misses Glan could not draw level as a determined Cae Glyn defence held on for the points.

UNDER 17s AT THE OVAL
(23/10/07) Glantraeth Under 17s are away to Cae Glyn tomorrow evening (Wednesday) in a league fixture put back from last Saturday. The game is being played at Caernarfon Town's Oval ground kick-off 6.30 pm.

UNDER 9s WANTED
(22/10/07) We need some more under 9 players to join the club. At present the squad is a little too large for one team but three or four short of making up two teams and resurrecting the Colts. Anyone wanting their youngster to join the club should phone Dyfed on 01248 371781 as soon as possible. In other weekend games the Under 13s went down 7-2 to Llanfair Swifts while the Under 9s won 7-2 in a friendly with Valley after their scheduled game with Trearddur Bay Cubs was cancelled.

OSPREYS CELEBRATING VICTORY
(20/10/07) Dave reports: The match conditions were unlike any in the league. Tiny goals and a massive pitch made it difficult for Glantraeth to press home their superiority. Saying that, It was the same for both sides and to be fair to Valley they were generous hosts and made it a close contest. A win was a fair result for Glantraeth who managed to keep the effort and concentration going until the final whistle. Cliff and myself are pleased the boys recorded a victory after putting in so much effort. It was Sion Thomas who finally broke Valleys' hearts 10 minutes from the end, blasting in from close range. There was no coming back for Valley after the goal as the Glan boys froze them out. There was real cause for celebration and the bubbly was flowing....well a bottle of Cola all round!!!

BODED OUTPLAYED BY DRAGONS
(20/10/07) Bojangles reports: The Red Dragons game against Boded this morning proved good to watch, the Reds weren't as flowing as in the Tigers game but for me were still the better footballing side today, they had by far the more chances and should have been a couple up if not more by half time not the 0-0 score line that took them to the break, Boded's best chance in the game came from a shot outside the box which was saved well by Carwyn and pushed over the crossbar, The Reds grew stronger into the second half and were rewarded with a well taken goal from Iwan who calmly slotted the ball into the Boded net, closely followed by some good build up play ending in a well taken goal by Ryan, one or two Reds players had a quiet game this week but having said that there were some that really worked hard all game, which brings me to the third goal and my man of the match Dion who was tireless in his work for the team today and deserved his goal, a good team performance all round well played also to Aled in defence who kept the back strong when Boded attacked.

LATEST GROUND NEWS
(19/10/07) The portakabin has been moved to its final resting place by the main gate and work will now be ongoing to carry out the internal modifications required to provide changing accommodation for players and officials. A small caravan has also been acquired for the ground which when connected to services will provide refreshments on matchdays. There's no doubt that when all the work on the ground is completed we will have a fabulous facility for our junior club.

CAN OSPREYS DO IT ?
(17/10/07) The Ospreys go looking for their first win on Saturday (10.30 am) and if they pull it off at Valley Juniors then it will be a cause for great celebration within the club after the work Dave and Cliff have done to improve the youngsters over the past twelve months or so. Last week they came close and were unlucky against Benllech Moelfre, lets hope for one better this time in a game that looks winnable. The Under 13s will be looking to build on last weekends impressive Coast Cup win when they entertain Llanfair Swifts on Saturday, kick-off 10.30 am. It was a fine team performance, Prestatyn were never easy and it took some determined defending and a couple of fine saves from Andrew Smith either side of half-time to keep the visitors out when the game was delicately poised. The Under 9s went down 4-0 at Amlwch and will be looking to make amends when Trearrdur Bay Cubs are the visitors this weekend. The Under 17s were due to face Cae Glyn at Caernarfon but the game has now been moved to next Wednesday, 24th October. Cogs and Bob take the Red Dragons to Bodedern on Saturday (10.30 am) for what is traditionally a tough fixture and they will be eager to return to action after last weekends game was postponed.

CEFNI BEATEN BY UNDER 17s
(13/10/07) Martyn reports: U17's came away from Llangefni with a 2-0 win, hardly troubled at the back and solid in the middle the forwards kept the home keeper busy all morning of which he made some excellent saves to keep them in the game. The opening goal came from some good work from Matti Jones and Scott Hughes which led to a corner. Delivered into the box the ball fell free to Mark Parry (pictured) who coolly slotted the ball home...1-0 at half-time. The second half saw Glantraeth miss chance after chance until a goalmouth scramble led to Sean Davies scoring to make the game safe.

UNDER 13s STORM THROUGH
(13/10/07) All the hard work of manager Kenny Jones and his players as they adjust to playing on a full sized pitch paid off handsomely this morning as they won through to the third round of the Coast Cup with a stunning 5-1 win over Prestatyn Rangers. Gareth Hughes put Glan ahead on 8 minutes with a left foot shot from the edge of the area only for Rangers to level five minutes later. Glan's response was immediate as Nathan Moore quickly made it 2-1 and the same player made a brilliant run just before the break before unleashing a great shot that found the net although Emyr Thomas may well have got a final touch. 15 minutes into the second half Dafydd Harris scored a fourth and Nathan Moore completed the scoring 4 minutes from time. A tremendous performance by the lads.

BIG CUP GAME AT MALLTRAETH
(12/10/07) Glantraeth Under 13s entertain Prestatyn Rangers tomorrow (Saturday) morning in the 2nd Round of the North Wales Coast FA Cup, kick-off 10.30 am. It is a huge task for the youngsters who are still looking for their first win so please get along if you can and give them your support. At the same time the Under 17s make the short journey to face Llangefni Juniors. The Under 11 Red Dragons were due to entertain Amlwch this weekend but Cogs has informed us that it has now been cancelled and will be played before Christmas. Finally, the Under 9 Juniors are away to Amlwch looking to build on their good start to the season.

OSPREYS SO UNLUCKY
(11/10/07) Dave reports Ospreys 1 Bro Benllech Moelfre 2: A great team effort from the Glan boys as a large crowd saw them narrowly miss out on a result this evening. Mid way through the first half the ball broke free to Daniel Jones in front of the Benllech goal who struck a solid left foot shot into the roof of the net. . That was the least Glan deserved after spending some time in the Benllech half. Just before half time Glan cruelly conceded after the ball re-bounded off the side of the goal, following a corner, and back into play. Glan froze, and Benllech scrambled one in through the crowded goal. Glan struggled to make head way in the second half but had a fair share of the ball. Benllech broke down the right wing and a low shot saw the goal keeper drop to gather the ball just as it took a high bobble/bounce over his head and into the goal. Glan bust a blood vessel trying to find an equaliser and dropped to their knees in despair at the final whistle. The boys were desperately upset they had no reward for all their effort. They can all hold their heads up high, as the Benllech manager freely stated ,..'Glan played best'.

GAME ON TONIGHT
(11/10/07) The Under 11 Ospreys are at home this evening (Thursday) to Bro Benllech Moelfre, kick-off 5.30 pm. Dave and Cliff are hoping a better turn out of players will result in a stronger display.

PLEASE SUPPORT 100 CLUB
(10/10/07) The first 100 Club draw will take place shortly but there are still a few vacancies for members. If you are not already a member please join as soon as possible either down at the field on matchday or by emailing the website. It's 10 for 12 months, less than 20p per week, and it contributes towards essential funding of the Juniors.

JUNIORS MAKE WINNING START
(07/10/07) In glorious sunshine Glantraeth Under 9 Juniors kicked off their season this morning in front of a large crowd at Cae Cob. A 3-1 win against Menai Bridge Tigers proved the perfect start in an entertaining and competitive game. Aron gave Glantraeth an early lead only for the Tigers to level, but a goal from Liam just before the interval put the Juniors back in the lead. Tigers never gave up and only a brilliant diving save from Arwel kept them in front before Liam got a second near the end to seal victory. It was a great team performance with mention to Owen who played solidly throughout in defence with Alex as usual perpetual motion up and down the pitch. Photos now online.

RED DRAGONS GO NAP
(06/10/07) Bojangles reports: The Red Dragons showed bags of confidence this morning at Menai Bridge Tigers, good passing and movement all over the pitch with goals form Iwan Parry, Ryan Williams, Jake Hughes and two from Jamie Roberts - and hitting the woodwork a few times - just what the boys needed to the start of the season. There was fire and determination in them all today. Jack (safe hands) played a blinder as the stand-in goalie making confident saves due to Carwyn's warming-up injury just prior to kick off. There's always room for improvement but that will come as the season moves on and there's no one I can really single out as the man of the match which is good because they all played well to beat the Tigers 5-0.

ALL SQUARE AT CAE COB
(06/10/07) This morning's Under 17 meeting at Malltraeth with league leaders Amlwch ended 3-3 in a game that swung first one way and then the other. Glan started sluggishly and went a goal behind after 8 minutes but gradually took control pulling level on 33 minutes as Scott Hughes finished well after fastening on to a through ball from Matti Jones. Two minutes later the home side were ahead as Ben Hull powerfully headed home a Matti Jones corner kick. Amlwch began the second period pushing forward and were awarded a harsh looking penalty to pull level before going ahead just past the hour mark. A fine pass over the visitors' defence from Huw Williams on 70 minutes allowed Scott Hughes to steal in from the right and lift the ball over the keeper.

OSPREYS RUE ABSENT FRIENDS
(06/10/07) Dave Webster reports: The Ospreys went down 6-0 to a quick and slick Trearddur Bay side. Some Ospreys were lacklustre in the fine autumn sunshine. Glantraeth were put to the sword in the first half, suffering heavy pressure, conceding 5 playing uphill. A deflected goal was the only difference between the two sides in the second half. Glan stood firm in defence and showed some metal putting pressure on the Trearddur Bay team. Cliff and I can only lament the absence of the three players leaving their fellow players to face this battle alone. More commitment is required. 'United we stand, divided we fall'.

ACTION GALORE
(02/10/07) The action really kicks off this weekend with the Under 11s and Under 9s commencing their league fixtures. The Red Dragons and the Ospreys are both on the road at Menai Bridge Tigers and Trearddur Bay respectively. The Under 13s are also away and face another tough assignment at Holyhead Hotspur Peibio. Cae Cob will also see plenty of action with the Under 9's Juniors at home on Sunday to Menai Bridge Tigers, kick-off 11.00 am. The Colts have been withdrawn through insufficient numbers. On Saturday morning top of the table Amlwch are the visitors to face the Under 17s. Kick-off for that one is 10.30 am.

ASTON THE PROVIDER
(29/09/07) A spirited Llanfair Scarlets side gave Glantraeth Under 17's a real run for their money before the home side ran out 3-2 winners. The game had been switched to Malltraeth and it was the visitors who took the lead on 9 minutes from a hotly disputed penalty. There was not the usual fluency about Glan's game and it took them until two minutes before the break to level as Jamie Aston's perfect cross was headed home by Scott Hughes. Glan finally took the lead on 55 minutes as Matti Jones crossed for Scott Hughes to convert his second (pictured above - click to enlarge). Matti Jones made it three in the 73rd minute with a tremendous volley after being put clear by Jamie Aston and at this stage it looked as if Llanfair would be steamrollered but they stuck at it and reduced the deficit with a last minute goal.
Glantraeth Under 13s went down by ten goals to nil at home to Trearddur Bay Juniors this morning but had their moments against an impressive Bay side who were particularly strong going forward. The youngsters musn't get downheartened, they will meet many sides this season who are more streetwise at playing on a full size pitch and they will gradually gain and learn from the experience.

HOME ADVANTAGE IN COAST CUP
(24/09/07) Both the Under 13s and the Under 17s have been drawn at home in the second round of the North Wales Coast FA Cup. The Under 13s will entertain Prestatyn Rangers at Malltraeth on Saturday 13th October while the Under 17s are at home to Blaenau Ffestiniog on Saturday 27th October. October fixtures for both teams are now online. NB. Information about the Under 13s games would be appreciated, even if it's just the scorers.

SEA ZOO COME ABOARD
(21/09/07) Dr Dylan Evans, Helen and Scott Waterman and Frankie Hobro are the new owners/managers at the Anglesey Sea Zoo. They have donated 350 towards the purchase of a new RED kit for a Junior team at Glantraeth. They are keen to support the local community and they have all followed Glantraeth Juniors' progress with keen interest. The Sea Zoo is one of Anglesey's premiere attractions and we are proud to have their continued support. This is the second time the Sea Zoo have helped purchase a kit for the Juniors. Last year the blue 'Halen Mon/Sea Zoo' kit saw action in battle with the Under 11's B team in the league. That team proved to be a determined group and enjoyed some success in the end of season tournaments, knocking over some big names. The kit travelled further afield with the very talented Anglesey U9's select team who wore it with pride winning all their matches. The same blue kit will again be in use this season. I am sure the lucky team/teams allocated the new red kit will have similar success. We look forward to an official presentation and photo opportunity. (Dave Webster)

UNDER 13s GETTING CLOSER
(19/09/07) Glantraeth's Under 13 side played their third league fixture last night, going down 5-2 against Trearddur Bay Colts. On Saturday they travel to face Llangoed.

WR PETERS AGAIN SPONSORS
(16/09/07) Dave Webster reports that Sion Peters of WR Peters Ltd is backing Glantraeth Juniors again for 2007-8 season. Mr Peters has agreed to fund the purchase a new kit for one of the Junior teams by donating 300. A Kit presentation photo-shoot will follow. Sion is impressed at the progress of the Juniors at Glantraeth and wishes to play a part in the Club's future development. He was one of the successful Under 9's coaches in 2005. Some of his former players now form the nucleus of the present U11's Red Dragons team and Ospreys teams. Although he no longer coaches football he is a keen follower of the Club and takes an avid interest in the Club and community as a whole. This is the second kit Mr Peters has donated to the Club and we are proud the company continue to support us so generously. WR Peters Ltd is one of our main sponsors. It is hoped to provide a new red kit for all of the Junior teams eventually. Advertising and association with Glantraeth Juniors can be mutually beneficial for Sponsor, Club and Players. We rely on all our present sponsors continued support and we are keen to attract more benefactors. A Junior Kit sponsorship package is 300 from our present suppliers. Alternatively an 8 foot sponsorship/advertisement board is 100. Thereafter an annual retainer fee of 30. U 17's, U13's, 2 under 11's and 9's teams and U7's teams play at the new ground. The new advertisements will be visible to a wide range of people including spectators, parents, players, visitors and of course passengers on Arriva and Virgin trains!!!

UNDER 17s FLYING HIGH
(16/09/07) Martyn Hull reports: Glantraeth Under 17's (sponsored by Royal Air Force Valley) gained their first points of the season in a hard fought game against last years Champions Felinheli. Despite a pre-season friendly win over the same opposition both teams made slight changes to their line up. The opening 15 minutes were end to end with Felinheli nearly opening the score, however Jamie Aston latched on to a through ball to coolly slot it past the Felinheli keeper to make it 1 - 0 More pressure came with a 25 yd shot by Ben Hull testing the keeper, the half ending 1-0. In the second half Glantraeth proved they are going to be a force to be reckoned with further goals from Matti Jones, Ben Hull and a second from Jamie Aston to put the home team 4-0 up. With the game coming to end a penalty was conceded by the home defence and was converted by Griff John a further lapse of concentration led to a Felinheli second and with the referee adding on 9 minutes the Bodorgan boys held on to a worthy win. Final score: Glantraeth 4 Felinheli 2. Photos now online.
Still very much on a learning curve, the newly formed Under 13s scored their first goals of the season but went down 9-2 at Bodedern.

GOOD WORKOUT FOR NINES
(16/09/07) Despite the strong wind there was a beneficial trial game for the Under 9s against Bro Benllech Moelfre at Malltraeth this morning, the game being divided into four quarters to give all players of both squads a good workout. Glantraeth won 6-1 with Aron Jones scoring four and Jamie Williams the other two. There are still opportunities for under 9 and under 7 players at the club. Anyone interested should contact Terry Barton on 01248 440782 or E-Mail: Terrybarton7@aol.com

LATEST NEWS
(13/09/07) The Under 9s squad have a training match on Sunday morning at 11.00 am against Bro Benllech Moelfre. All Under 9s to be at the field and new players who were not with Glantraeth last season are also welcome to take part.
Glantraeth's Under 13 side travel to Bodedern on Saturday while the Under 17s face another tough game when Felinheli are the visitors to Malltraeth. That game kicks-off at 10.30 am. I will be travelling away with the first team so I would appreciate an emailed report of both games if anyone can oblige. Please keep them fairly brief. They can be sent by clicking on 'contact website' at the bottom of the menu on the left. (SS)
In tonight's trial games at the Juniors' ground two games were played against Llanfair Hotshots, Bob and Cogs team drawing 2-2 while Dave and Cliff's side (pictured) won 5-0.

UNDER 11s TRAINING TONIGHT
(13/09/07) There's a trial game/games against Llanfair PG for all Under 11s tonight (Thursday). Everyone is welcome including new players, it doesn't matter if you haven't been training with Glan. Games start at 6:30 pm so be there at 6:00.

UNDER 13s MAKE THEIR DEBUT
(11/09/07) If ever a team deserved a goal it was Glantraeth's Under 13's side as they went down 4-0 to a more experienced Llangefni side this evening in Malltraeth. Playing their first game in 11-a-side football Glan's youngsters put on a tremendous show and while there was no doubting the visitors deserved their win it was a mystery how Glan failed to score as they several times had the visitors defending desperately with Nathan Moore coming closest to a goal with a shot that came back off the crossbar in the closing stages of a hugely entertaining game that was a credit to both sides. It was the first competitive game on the new ground and a large crowd were present to see just how far Glantraeth Juniors have progressed during the past few months. Full size team picture now on Under 13s page.

BRAVE EFFORT BUT NO REWARD
(10/09/07) The newly formed Glantraeth Under 17s gave a good account of themselves this evening at the New Oval, a last minute goal for Holyhead Peibio giving them a 5-3 victory in a game that Glan could count themselves somewhat unlucky to not gain at least a share of the points. The visitors took the lead in the 10th minute as Matti Jones headed a left wing cross back across goal for Scott Hughes to run in and head home (pictured) and a few minutes later Scott scored again only to see it ruled out on a very marginal offside decision. Glan were creating problems for themselves through failing to clear the ball effectively and a spell of pressure from Peibio led to goals in the 25th and 30th minute to put them 2-1 up. Scott Hughes was denied by a point blank save from the keeper than saw his shot come back off a post with Matti Jones unable to direct the ball into an open goal. Five minutes into the second half Glan were level with the goal of the game as Matti Jones picked his spot beautifully with a left foot shot into the top corner that gave the keeper no chance. Two goals in three minutes for the home side seemed to have put the game beyond Glans reach but a free kick on 74 minutes from Jason Edwards reduced the lead and the game was in the balance right until that last minute goal. Photos now online.

REAL ACTION GETS UNDERWAY
(09/09/07) The Verdant Anglesey Junior League fixtures commence for Glantraeth tomorrow (Monday) in the older age groups when the Under 17s travel to face Holyhead Hotspur Peibio at the New Oval and the following evening there is a local derby at the Juniors' ground when the Under 13s open their campaign against Llangefni Juniors. Both games kick-off at 6.15 pm. Saturday's under 13 results: Llandegfan 1 Holyhead 1, Llangoed 3 Llangefni 2, Trearddur Bay 1 Amlwch 5.

CHAMPS HUMBLED
(05/09/07) SS reports: An outstanding pre-season display by Glantraeth's Under 17s this evening saw them comprehensively beat reigning Anglesey League Champions, Felinheli, by six goals to two at the Juniors' ground. Matti Jones put the home side ahead in the second minute, brilliantly turning his marker before finishing with a sweet strike, and with a little luck the Glantraeth striker could have added four more during the opening half-hour. Felinheli came out fired up after the break and two quick goals put them ahead but Glan were far from finished and another Matti Jones strike soon restored equality. From then on the Bodorgan boys ran riot with Matti completing his hat-trick with a superb finish then further goals from Matti, Scott Hughes (pictured right), my man of the match, and Jamie Ashton made it six as every Glantraeth attack threatened a goal.

RAIN JACKETS FOR SALE
(04/09/07) For anyone who missed out last time or for any new members the smart Glantraeth Juniors rain jackets can now be ordered although you must be prepared to pay the full price! I will try to get the cost down but that will depend on the good-will of Mr Forsyth of Simply Mortgages who sponsored the original jackets. You can obtain an order form from either Robin or myself at training on Sundays or download an order form by clicking here which also contains details of sizes and prices. The completed form plus 10 deposit must be submitted before the end of the month to either of the above named. Cheers Dave Webster.

UNDER 17s WIN AGAIN
(01/09/07) In Wednesday's pre-season friendly Glantraeth Under 17s won 3-0 at Amlwch, the goals coming from Scott Hughes, Matti Jones and Jamie Ashton.

LATEST NEWS
(26/08/07) There was a good turnout of youngsters at the ground this morning for a coaching session by Dave Webster. The goal nets are now up on the full-size pitch. Please note the Under 17s game with Amlwch on Wednesday has now been switched to Amlwch at their request.

ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL DAY
(25/08/07) Today's packing day at Asda in Llangefni raised another 686 for the Juniors making a grand total of 1,322. It is a tremendous effort so many thanks to those that have worked so hard over the two days allocated.

KELLOGG'S SAY NO
(25/08/07) Our application for a 1,000 grant to the Kellogg's Active Living Fund towards the cost of a new mower has been rejected. They say we are 'not eligible' which I find strange as I believe we meet all the criteria in our efforts to develop additional facilities for youngsters to participate in sport in this area. Maybe I'm getting cynical in my advancing years but I do wonder where the millions of pounds of grant and lottery money we hear so much about actually ends up, we seem to see precious little of it on this Island. Or maybe I'm just a sore loser? (SS)

UNDER 11s TRAINING UPDATE
(22/08/07) Dave Webster has sent a reminder that training for the under 11s has started at the Viaduct pitch every Sunday 10 am.

LET'S MAKE IT 1,000 PLUS !!
(20/08/07) Sorry to be repetitive but is absolutely vital that we make the most of next Saturday's second and final packing day at Asda in Llangefni. With enough volunteers covering all tills we can reach the 1,000 mark and more, essential revenue if we are to fund the Juniors properly next season. PLEASE contact Karen Evans if you can give up a couple of hours of time to help either by email at r.evans643@btinternet.com or telephone her on 01248 723013.

TRANSFORMATION IN 12 WEEKS
(14/08/07) I have watched with admiration over the past 12 weeks - 'watched' being the operative word I have to admit - as the farmland (pictured below) made available by Iolo Owen has been transformed into the football ground you see above (click on picture to enlarge). We owe a huge debt of gratitude to those that have worked tirelessly to bring this about, not forgetting those that have helped raise the funds to pay for materials and equipment. It was on the 19th May that work began to fence off the ground from the surrounding grazing land. It has been a tremendous effort and of course work goes on to continuously improve the facility for our junior players and coaches. (SS)

MATTI'S 10 SECOND OPENER LEADS THE WAY
(13/08/07) The large crowd at this afternoon's Under 17 fixture between Glantraeth and Canadian visitors Golden Ears Strikers didn't have to wait long for the action to start as Matti Jones opened the scoring for the home side in sensational fashion, scoring within exactly ten seconds of the kick-off. Glan were looking very impressive with Scott Hughes coming close again on 25 minutes as his shot came back off a post. Strikers best effort of the half came on 32 minutes as a shot from Colin Wyllie was comfortably saved by Paul Evans. Matti Jones shot over a minute later as Glan continued to look the better side. Within two minutes of the restart the Anglesey side had gone two up as Sean Davies stole in from the right to slide the ball past Strikers keeper Taylor Eyolfson. On 69 minutes Scott Hughes struck the post for the second time and just when it looked like the Strikers were finished a neat finish by Luke Prawdzik pulled a goal back. Their hopes were soon dashed as the impressive Matti Jones cleverly lobbed the keeper to make it 3-1 for Glantraeth on 75 minutes. The shine was slightly taken of what was in truth a convincing victory as the Canadian side got a late goal from Tony Pickering making the final score: Glantraeth 3 Golden Ears Strikers 2. Photos now online.

GOOD TRAINING SESSION
(12/08/07) Considering it is during the holiday season there was a good turnout of boys and girls at this morning's training session down at the new field (Cae Y Cob?) including under 11s, under 9s and Terry Barton's under 7 induction class (pictured). Thanks to those that turned out yesterday for the working party - all the posts have now been painted - even though Bob failed to make it. He was there this afternoon however, back working and now fully recovered from Friday night!

NEXT UP THE STRIKERS
(11/08/07) On Monday afternoon we welcome Canadian touring side Golden Ears Strikers to Bodorgan. They are the under 17 side of the Golden Ears United Soccer Club from Maple Ridge, British Columbia. Maple Ridge is a town of near 70,000 people sited approximately 25 miles inland from Vancouver. The town is situated on the mighty Fraser River (870 miles long) with Golden Ears Mountain to the north and the almost impenetrable Coast Mountains beyond. Their tour organised by Action Youths Soccer Adventures will be expected to take in games in Scotland, England and Wales as well as sightseeing in Edinburgh, Chester and London plus visits to Conwy and Caernarfon Castles during their time in North Wales. It is the first game for our newly formed under 17 side managed by Michael and Geraint and your support will be appreciated. Please note the kick-off is now 4.00 pm on Glantraeths main pitch.

WORKING PARTY TOMORROW
(10/08/07) Bob wants a working party down at the new field at 11.00 am tomorrow morning (Saturday). Work is progressing well but with more bodies it will progress much quicker.

OSPREYS PREPARE FOR NEW SEASON
(10/08/07) Glantraeth Under 11 Ospreys managed by Dave Webster (pictured right) and Cliff Vanden Blink (left) are preparing for the new season in the Alaw Section of the Anglesey Junior League and there are still vacancies for new players in their Under 11's squad (Year 6, 2007-08). Dave can be contacted on 01407 840990 or 07733 071317. E-Mail: webbo.1963@ntlworld.com

NEW GROUND - LATEST PIC
(09/08/07) Bob and Cogs (and Gareth) continue to work on the new ground at Malltraeth with the full size goals now in the process of being erected.

THANKS A MILLION
(06/08/07) Karen has been in contact to thank all those that worked so hard on Saturday packing groceries at Asda in Llangefni. The sum raised was a tremendous 636 but in truth we could have raised even more if there had more volunteers as some tills were not covered. Let's make a special effort for the second and last packing day on Saturday 25th August when with the right support from parents there is no reason why we can't make even more and perhaps reach the 1,000 mark. We hope to have some photos online later.

UNDER 17s COMMENCE TRAINING
(01/08/07) Glantraeth's new Under 17s side began training this evening at Trefdraeth under the supervision of managers Michael Owen (pictured right) and Geraint Williams (left) in preparation for the visit of Canadian side Golden Ears Strikers on Monday 13th August. The game kicks-off at 3.30 pm on Glantraeth's ground.

MORE VOLUNTEERS STILL NEEDED
(01/08/07) The Asda store in Llangefni has generously allocated Glantraeth Juniors two packing days, this coming Saturday 4th August and Saturday 25th August, and we urgently need parents (men or women) to volunteer so Karen can draw up a rota for the two days. Past experience proves this can be a lucrative fundraiser for the club if we take full advantage. It will only require you to volunteer for a two hour shift packing goods at the checkout along with a junior player in their kit. It is absolutely vital that we make the most of this opportunity as the club cannot function properly without full parental support. PLEASE contact Karen right away by email at r.evans643@btinternet.com or telephone her on 01248 723013.

WANTED...RIDE-ON MOWER
(22/07/07) The Juniors are looking to obtain a secondhand ride-on mower suitable for a sports ground in good working condition. To date we have relied on the generosity of others to cut the grass on the new field but it is important we have this equipment ourselves. Please contact Cogs at cogsitew@aol.com if you can help or know someone who can help.

NEW GROUND DIRECTIONS
(18/07/07) Travelling from Brynsiencyn/Newborough on the A4080 turn right on entering Malltraeth just before the Joiners Arms and follow the road alongside the river. The entrance to the field is on the left 50 yards before the viaduct. Travelling from Aberffraw/Rhosneigr on the A4080 turn left just after the Joiners Arms, then as above. Coming from Llangefni and the A55 take the A5 towards Gwalchmai/Rhostrehwfa and turn left at the Tafarn-y-Rhos on to the B4422 towards Aberffraw. On entering Bethel turn left (signposted Glantraeth Restaurant). Carry on past restaurant and Glantraeth football ground to T-junction at river. Turn right and pass under viaduct. The Under 9s will be Glantraeth Juniors and Glantraeth Colts to be managed by Dyfed and Gareth. The new Under 17 side will be managed by Michael Owen and Geraint Williams and the Under 13s by Kenny Jones. The Under 7s will be coached by Terry Barton. We also welcome Chris Rickards from Gaerwen FC who has a great deal of experience of junior football and will be playing an important role in taking the club forward.

SELECTION DAYS
(18/07/07) Message from Dave Webster: The Under 11s and Under 9s are holding two joint selection days at the Glantraeth Juniors Viaduct ground, Malltraeth on Sunday 22nd July 10 am to 12 noon and Thursday 26th July 7 pm to 8.30 pm. Every eligible player is invited. Players will be invited to sign for the forthcoming 2007-08 season by means of a selection process. Two U9 teams and two U11 teams will be formed. By attending the session you will assessed for fitness, speed, skills and behaviour/attitude. Good Luck...

NEW FIELD SEES FIRST ACTION
(17/07/07) The new pitch at the Viaduct had its first training session this evening with a good turn out of under 9s and under 11s along with a few under 13s. When completed it will be a superb base for Glantraeth Juniors.

TRAINING TOMORROW
(16/07/07) Dave Webster reports that there is training tomorrow (Tuesday) on the new field by the viaduct in Malltraeth for under 9s and under 11s starting at 7.00 pm. Any questions call Dave on 07733 071317.

ANOTHER FINAL FOR UNDER 9s
(15/07/07) Bojangles reports: Again the Under 9s did the club proud by reaching the final of the Bodedern Tournament, this time against Llanfair but sadly for the Glan boys the outcome wasn't the same as last years final with the boys going down 1-0 to a very unlucky own goal. Ah well, it's a funny old game as they say, but hats off to the Llanfair boys, a win is a win which ever way it comes. Also nice to see two Anglesey teams reaching the final with Penrhyn and Caerwys both making the semis, tough games that each went to the extra-time stage and finally decided on penalties. A big well done to all involved.
The Under 11s also put on a good show winning their opening game against Bodedern B 1-0 and drawing with Holyhead A and Menai Bridge Tigers. Two one goal defeats by Bodedern A and Holyhead B and a 3-0 defeat by eventual winners Llangoed meant the boys didn't qualify for the semi-finals but still a good performance.

SUPER NIGHT FOR JUNIORS
(13/07/07) A great evening was enjoyed by everyone at the juniors presentation night in the Glantraeth Restaurant with all the players receiving a trophy for their efforts during the season and the coaches also being presented with an appreciation of their hard work with the children. Chairman of Glantraeth seniors Gari Evans and Bodorgan councillor Robert Lloyd Hughes were there to present the trophies and councillor Hughes was full of praise for the youngsters and also thanked Iolo Owen on behalf of the club for providing the land for the new field. The auction was professionally and entertainingly conducted by Andrew Roberts of Morgan Evans Auctioneers and although the amount raised is not yet known it looked considerable. Thank you to all those that donated prizes and made the winning bids in the auction. On a personal note thank you for the presentation of the Glantraeth Juniors jacket. It fits, as you can see in picture! Seriously, it was a nice thought and really appreciated. I will wear it with pride. There are some Photos now online. If anyone has any more photographs of the evening please email them to stan@glantraethfc.co.uk for inclusion on the website. (SS)

FRIDAY NIGHT IS TROPHY NIGHT
(10/07/07) Don't forget to be at the Glantraeth Restaurant on Friday evening for the junior's trophy night starting at 7 pm. There will be an auction on the night to raise funds and auction prizes are still wanted. Just contact Robin. Fund-raising will become even more important with the club expanding this season which will lead to an increase in running costs as well as more admin work for Karen and Robin in particular. Your support as parents will as always be much appreciated.

IN THE MEDALS AT PWLLHELI
(08/07/07) Bojangles reports on the Under 9s at yesterday's Bro Enlli tournament: Another long but rewarding day for the Glan "A" who made it to the final of the tournament against Pwllheli "A" and were 1-0 up at half time from an absolute scorcher by Ryan but sadly for them lost it 2-1 with Pwll equalizing in the first 30 seconds of the restart then scoring again with only minutes left till the final whistle, worthy winners at the end of the day. On the way to the final the Glan boys met with some stiff opposition in the group games namely from Segontium Rovers of Caernarfon and Dolgellau "A" (not to say that the other teams were pushovers) who were both very hard teams to break down, a deflected goal saw the Glan through to the semis with seconds to go against Segontium, every team needs some luck!! The semi against Bro Enlli was another nail-biter which ended 0-0 after extra time and went on to pens with Cams and Ryan placing the ball into the corner of the net (2-1) then Arthur the goalie got his finger tips to the next and it lifted up onto the woodwork and out, with Jake slotting in the third and the boys were through. Bob will be glad to hear that the boys passed the ball well and did the club proud everyone of them gave their all. P.S. Callum Moore you were missed by all hurry up and get well soon!!!

GROUND CONTINUES TO TAKE SHAPE
(06/07/07) The grass being cut on the new field this morning. It's now really looking the part with the playing surface getting better every day. Meanwhile peace has been restored to the Cogs' household as he has returned to working on the bungalow.

TRAINING SWITCH
(05/07/07) Message from Dave Webster: For the next 3 weeks or so.... training for the U11's, 9's, etc at Glantraeth has been switched from Friday to Tuesday nights at 7pm.

LATEST NEWS
(04/07/07) At last nights committee meeting it was confirmed that the new ground is expected to be ready for the start of the season but there is still much to do. Bob and Cogs in particular have put in a tremendous amount of work and more bodies would be welcome. Dont just talk about it fellas turn up next Saturday morning. The women and children (and any men who would like to volunteer) will be doing their bit by raising funds through two packing days we have been allocated at Asda in Llangefni. I went past the ground last Saturday morning and Bob and Cogs were working away despite the pouring rain. Cogs had been out and rolled the pitch every evening last week as well. We now know what needs to be done to connect services like water and electricity to the ground. The portakabin needs to be re-sited and a new floor and dividing walls installed. A joiner would be a useful addition to the team. We are still awaiting another portakabin that can be used for storage, making tea, etc. Secretary Robin Griffiths will be attending the Anglesey Junior League AGM this evening at Llangefni Town FC when we will be giving the first indication of the increased number of teams the club will be running this coming season. A decision on a Sports Council grant is still awaited. (SS)

SIR GEORGE ACCEPTS PRESIDENCY
(02/07/07) Following an invitation sent on behalf of the Juniors by secretary Robin Griffiths Sir George Meyrick of Bodorgan Hall has accepted the position as President of Glantraeth Juniors Football Club.

AUCTION PRIZES WANTED
(29/06/07) We are looking for prizes to be auctioned at the children's trophy night in the Glantraeth Restaurant on Friday 13th July to raise funds for the Juniors. Would you be able to donate something towards the auction? If so please contact secretary Robin Griffiths as soon as possible.

WORK CONTINUES
(16/06/07) Bob, Cogs and Dave were down at the field this morning marking out the full-size pitch. Despite recent heavy rain the drainage on the ground is so efficient that the heavy roller made little impression on further levelling the pitch.

WORKING PARTY SATURDAY
(14/06/07) There will be another working party down at the new ground on Saturday morning when it is planned to mark out the pitch. Get down if you can help out. Check the time with Cogs but assume about 9.30 am on previous experience.

COME ON GALACTICOS !!
(12/06/07) One of the proposals agreed at the recent juniors' committee meeting was that where there was more than one team in an age group next season the team will have a name rather than simply being called the A or B team. The players themselves will no doubt have plenty of suggestions. For starters how about Glantraeth Galcticos! It was also announced that the Juniors Presentation Night has been arranged for Friday 13th July (oops!) at the Glantraeth Restaurant.

GRANT NEWS AWAITED.....
(10/06/07) The meeting with the Sports Council of Wales with regard to the application for a minor grant of 5,000 has taken place. Present at the meeting were Jo Clay, who covers the North Wales area for the Sports Council of Wales, Juniors secretary Robin Griffiths, treasurer Karen Evans and website manager Stan Strickland. It proved a very positive meeting as we presented what we consider a particularly strong case and detailed exactly how the grant money would be used. Amongst other things it was emphasised just what an excellent new facility for local youngsters the Juniors' ground would be in an area of south west Anglesey that has a dearth of such facilities. The grant would also enable us to progress with expanding the number of teams within the club, effectively increasing the membership from approximately 40 to 120. The club has done an enormous amount to help themselves but if all our plans are to come to fruition we do need the support of bodies such as the Sports Council. An answer is expected before the end of the month. Jo Clay also pointed out other sources of additional funding that we are qualified to apply for.

BIG EXPANSION PLANS FOR GLAN JUNIORS NEXT SEASON.....
(07/06/07) Glantraeth Juniors moving to their own ground at Malltraeth next season has attracted unprecedented interest so it was agreed in principle at the Juniors Club Committee meeting this evening that the club will run teams at Under 9, Under 11, Under 13, Under 15 & Under 17 levels next season as well as providing coaching for the Under 7s. The introduction of a girls team would be another priority. It is hoped that the Under 17 team will act as a feeder to the Glantraeth senior team. The club is delighted to announce that Bob Parry (pictured) has agreed to accept the position of General Manager of the Juniors Club with the responsibility of overseeing development at all age groups. It was agreed following a proposal from Bob that as new sponsors were signed up all junior teams would in future revert to playing in the all-red strip of the senior team. As part of the expansion the club is advertising for a manager for the Under 13 team. All enquiries or applications with regard to any of the these developments should be made to secretary Robin Griffiths at pennaeth.bodorgan@ynysmon.gov.uk

LOOKING LIKE A FOOTBALL GROUND.....
(06/06/07) In less than three weeks an amazing transformation has taken place at the new Juniors' field. All credit to those that have grafted so hard to complete so much work in such a short time. The field is fenced with gates in place, access to the road has been completed, the grass has now been cut back and the heavy roller for levelling is on site. Click for full-size image.

SPONSORSHIP.....
(04/06/07) Dont forget to keep me informed of any new sponsorship deals for the Juniors or any current sponsors who have not yet been featured on the website. The website is an important tool for selling the idea of sponsorship to a business as it has to date registered 57,139 hits and as well as featuring the sponsors logo on the home page it is linked to their own website or a dedicated page with full details of that business. A photo-call to promote the sponsors can also be arranged that we can normally have published in the Anglesey Mail or the Chronicle. I should also be informed of any sponsorship deals that are now finished so they can be removed from the website. The results for this season will shortly be archived so let me know of any information that is missing. Thanks, Stan.

NEW GROUND GATHERS MOMENTUM.....
(02/06/07) A great deal of work has now been completed at the new Juniors' ground in Malltraeth with the field now fenced off and gated from the adjacent grazing land and access to and from the road opened up. The major job remaining is the levelling off of the field to make it ready for playing football. Photos

GOOD TURNOUT AT SENIORS' PARTY.....
(26/05/07) There was a good turnout of Juniors Club committee members and partners at last night's Glantraeth FC Presentation Party in the Glantraeth Restaurant a fact commented on by several of the speakers. A good time appeared to be had by all with secretary Robin Griffiths making a short speech on behalf of the Juniors. During his speech Iolo Owen made the point that Glantraeth Juniors will be the only junior club in the area to have their own ground next season. Robin reported that he has been flooded with applications to join the club since the website posting of last weekend. Photos

WORK BEGINS IN EARNEST.....
(24/05/07) The posts are now in place around the new ground ready for fencing to be erected. Once the fencing is in place dedicated access from the road can be established and the playing area prepared. Many thanks to those volunteers that have been at the ground this week. Photos

WANTED.....
(18/05/07) These are exciting times at Glantraeth Juniors with the club expanding next season, including the introduction of Under 13 football. We are looking to further develop all areas of the club at Under 13, Under 11, Under 9 and Under 7 age groups. Players and managers who wish to join the club should contact secretary Robin Griffiths at pennaeth.bodorgan@ynysmon.gov.uk as soon as possible. One of the priorities is to now get the new ground ready and volunteers are required tomorrow (Saturday) morning, weather permitting, at 9.30 am to mark off the new ground. There will be another working group next Tuesday evening at 6.30 pm. Once the ground has been secured from the surrounding grazing land then access to the road will be opened up. The club have applied for a 5,000 grant from the Sports Council of Wales to help finance the project. There is no firm date for the Juniors Presentation Night yet which is expected to be held in July.

As TAKE THE POINTS.....
(18/05/07) Stan reports: This evening's league fixture between Glantraeth Under 9s A and B teams ended in a 6-2 win for the As. I only saw the opening five minutes having promised my better half that I would go to the Spring Sale in the school hall. The Bs very nearly took the lead in the first minute but paid the price as they were caught short at the back as the As immediately swept downfield for Jake to open the scoring with a clinical finish. A minute later Ryan made it two and almost added another with a fiercely struck shot that came back off the crossbar. More news when available.

GLAN BOYS AT AMLWCH.....
(15/05/07) Latest from Bojangles: I Watched the Anglesey under 9 squads at Amlwch last night, 1st game a 1-1 with the 2nd game ending in a 3-0 win for the U9's, there was some good movement and passing by both squads and am looking forward to watching them play at Llandudno this weekend (sun cream at the ready), a question though, how long are the two squads together is it just for the summer tournament season or will it go beyond that?. Well done also to the 4 Glan boys who didn't disappoint.

UNDER 11s FACE ANGLESEY SELECT.....
(10/05/07) Dave reports: Yesterday evening the masses of Glantraeth B U11's squad hosted two practise matches against two, select, Anglesey U9 sides. The B's, who are mainly, only a year older than their rivals, provided some stiff opposition for some of the best Anglesey players in the U9's age group. The first match was entertaining stuff and very combative. This ended in a 1-1 draw. Victory could have gone to either team but for smart defending and goal keeping. The second game proved, perhaps, equally pleasing for the B squad despite the 2-0 loss. Many of the boys, who usually enjoy the luxury of playing alongside their peers, were left to fend for themselves for a change. They were able to disrupt the Anglesey team, who were the dominant force. The final score in the second game was a respectable 2-0. Plenty was gained from this experience. I am sure, with some fine tuning, Bob will have his Anglesey boys, who included some familiar faces, 'cooking on gas' .. Well done to Glantraeth.

LLANGEFNI TOURNAMENT.....
(08/05/07) Dave reports: Glan U11 B's experienced their first tournament of the year at Llangefni. The Bodedern B side did not materialise so the group consisted of just 4 teams. Owing to the absent team Glan B played all their games back to back! Llangefni B were first up. They looked smart, professional and strong. We were a little overawed and lacked confidence and belief to really take them on. We lost that game 2-0 and didn't have much of a look in. Next up was Benllech Moelfre and we actually gave them a run for their money, eventually going down 2-0, conceding 2 easy goals. The final match was Menai Bridge Tigers A which the boys drew 0-0, knocking them out of the competition, which we all took some pride in. They had previously drawn with Llangefni. The final twist in the tale was the last match between Benllech Moelfre and Llangefni which Benllech won knocking the hosts out. The rain then came down and interest waned so we left prior to the tournaments conclusion.

GLAN MAKE FINAL AT NANTLLE VALE.....
(07/05/07) Bojangles reports: A Herculean effort by the Glantraeth under 9 A's on Saturday at Nantlle Vale, 16 teams competed in two leagues of 8 followed by the two semi's and the final of which I'm proud to say the Glan boys made it too, their first defeat of the day was in the final, they went down 3-0 to the hosts Nantlle Vale who I'd say in the end deserved the win with their three goals coming late in the second half, the Glan boys had their fair share of chances in the final and really should have slotted three in by half time, but the boys were showing the effects of the long day and all looked zapped, we had arrived at 9.00am with the final kicking off at about 7.30pm, it was a long day but watching the boys get to the final and right until the death holding their own made it all worth while, even the fact that I now look like I have been on a day trip to Chernobyl with my face being a nice shade of crimson but I suspect I'm not the only one!!! (better than rain tho). Well done to all the Glan boys you should be proud of yourselves.

NEW JUNIORS FORUM.....
(06/05/07) The Glantraeth Fan's Forum seems to have been closed down by the moderator so I have set up a new forum for the Juniors only as that seems to be used most. Sorry about the inconvenience but you will have to register again. (SS)

LLANGEFNI TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE.....
(04/05/07) Dave Webster reports: According to the programme the Glantraeth U11 Teams will be playing the following 6 min each way games this Sunday, 6th May: Glan A play M/Bridge Tigers B at 2pm, Boderdern A at 2.30pm, Llewod Llanrug at 3pm, Llangefni A at 3.45pm, Penrhosgarnedd a at 4.30pm. Glan B play Bodedern B at 1.40pm, Llangefni B at 2.20pm, Bro benllech at 3pm, Menai Bridge Tigers at 3.40. I suggest the A and B team make sure they aim to be at the Llangefni ground by 1.00pm to be sure about parking etc.

UNDER 9s AT NANTLLE VALE.....
(04/05/07) Cogs reports that the Under 9s will be taking part in a tournament at Nantlle Vale tomorrow (Saturday).

BEES WIN 4-1.....
(03/05/07) Dave reports: The Glan U11 B team won their match against a Llanfairpwll B team 4-1. Well done to all the boys who bossed the game especially in midfield. Unfortunately some key members of the B team cannot make the Llangefni Tournament, hopefully the others can respond.

MUCH CLOSER THIS TIME.....
(02/05/07) After losing 7-0 to a good Bodedern side earlier in the season Glantraeth Under 11 As put up a much better performance when they travelled to Boded on Monday evening. Gareth reports that the game started ok with a few good chances from both teams and at half time the score was 0-0. Then five minutes later Boded scored, at 1-0 up Bodedern started playing better to score another goal. Final score: Bodedern 2 Glantraeth A 0.

BEES IN ACTION.....
(01/05/07) Dave Webster reports: Glantreath U11's B are playing a friendly against a Llanfairpwll side at Henblas School pitch, Llangristiolus, on Wednesday 2nd May 2007 at 7pm. The whole squad should have a piece of the action. Watch out for the B's in the Llangefni tournament. I think they have become a good outfit, matching Menai Bridge Tigers. In last Saturday friendlies they eventually went down 2-1, in one of the games, and they were looking strong. We have some cracking players who have worked hard all season against far older teams. They have earned real respect.

UNDER 11s AT BODED TONIGHT.....
(30/04/07) Gareth reports that the Under 11 As have a rearranged game this evening (Monday) away to Bodedern kick off 6.30 pm at Ysgol Bodedern.

THRILLER IN THE SUN.....
(29/04/07) What a thriller we had at Ysgol Bodorgan this morning as Glan's Under 9 As drew 1-1 with Holyhead. Holyhead may well have shaded the first half playing with the slope and took an early lead before Ryan Williams levelled on 8 minutes (his 24th of the season) with a wicked shot that skidded into the net off the hard surface. Skipper Jake Hughes had to lead by example at the back as Holyhead looked dangerous although Callum Moore came close to putting Glan in front just before the break. The second period saw Glan come out with all guns blazing. The pressure on the Holyhead goal was relentless and only an heroic performance by Sam the visitor's keeper kept Glan out although even he couldn't stop a shot from Liam Jones in the final minute that came back off the crossbar. Glan's second half performance deserved the points but all credit to Holyhead for such a battling display.

GLAN BOYS END HOT SHOTS 100% RECORD.....
(25/04/07) Bojangles reports: I have just watched possibly the best performance this season by the Glan A, everyone of those boys played like heroes tonight fought for every ball and sweated blood for each other, Arthur the goalie showed us a master class in shot stopping and played an absolute blinder as did the Hot Shots keeper, it's not hard to see why the Hot Shots haven't lost a game this season and I was impressed by their movement awareness and passing but the Glan were awarded a free kick early in the first half which was tapped back to the edge of the box and hammered home by Ryan the Hot Shots pulled one back just before the half time whistle from a corner. The second half saw both teams playing well with some good passing and well worked build ups resulting in a nice move which saw Cameron slotting in the Glan boy's second goal again the Glan A were in the lead and a deserved one at that. Frustration was starting to show on a couple of the Hot Shot players who are clearly used to having things their own way and going behind twice in one game must be a strange feeling for them this season but they battled back to even the score in what was a thrilling end to end match. I was proud of the Glan boys display tonight they were a credit to the Glantraeth Football Club. Also thank you to the Hot Shots team, coach, ref and home support who made our visit a welcome one.

VALLEY EDGE OUT 9 Bs.....
(25/04/07) The Under 9's B team lost on Sunday at home to Valley Juniors by two goals to nil. They played well up the hill first half, second half could not convert chances and Valley scored with a breakaway. Valley got stronger and scored near the end again. The Bs played well for much of match although they need to create and convert chances.

BEES STAY ACTIVE.....
(24/04/07) Despite their league season having finished the Under 11 B team are still staying active. Dave Webster reports: Last Friday evening the U11B team played a friendly match against a Llanfair B team and won 1-0! This was thanks to a well taken goal by Jack in the first half. Liam hit the crossbar and there was a couple more close misses too. Llan were lucky to be only 1 down as Glan forced the issue. Nearly the whole squad turned up with a posse of support. Five subs were made at half time so every one got a piece of the action. Llan had brought in some re-enforcements as they found the going tough. Owing to so many changes the balance of the game fell in favour of Llan. They were unable to score thanks to Aled and Dyl defending and the break away threat from Glan. Carwyn and John can also be pleased with a clean sheet. Well done to all the team and we thank the excellent support. Thank you also to Josh Roberts for bringing his enthusiasm to the team coupled with his strong display which spurred everybody on.

UNDER 9 A UPDATE.....
(23/04/07) Cogs reports: Last week's Glantraeth A v Glantraeth B encounter was a very good match and entertaining to watch, ending 4-0 in favour of the As. Goalscorers Harri, Owen, Callum and Cameron.
Llanfairpwll 1 Glantraeth A 1 - In an excellent first half both sides showed tremendous ability, but a cracking shot from the Llanfair side saw them take the lead. Glan reacted with a cracking shot from Ryan which nearly snapped the bar in half. Second half was a much improved performance Glan created chances but failed to score through the Llanfair keeper, but a well placed left footer from Jamie Roberts made sure that we were going away with at least a draw. With only a few seconds left Ryan curled the ball towards the goal from the corner which again saw the young lad hitting the cross bar. A great performance again from the lads, but a greater performance from our young ones Tony Moore and Owen Evans, played their socks off, also a great performance from the Llanfair Side well done boys.
Next game: Llanfair Hotshots v Glantraeth A this Wednesday (25th April), kick-off 6.30 pm at Llanfair.

LATEST NEWS.....
(20/04/07) Gareth reports that the Under 11 A team went down to a disappointing 4-1 defeat at Cemaes Bay last Sunday, our scorer Dion Williams. They will be away to Bodedern next Monday evening. Don't forget to keep sending in the news, the website is only as good as you guys make it.

HEROIC SECOND HALF EFFORT.....
(15/04/07) Playing against a superior Holyhead Hotspur Peibio side this morning Glantraeth's Under 9 Bs were 5-0 down at half-time and double figures looked a real possibility but the youngsters gave a spirited second half performance and only a tremendous save from the visitor's keeper kept out a shot from Jamie Williams 10 minutes from the end. A late goal in added time resulted in Holyhead finishing 7-0 winners. Photos now online. The Under 9 As drew 1-1 at Llangefni today and next Tuesday evening the A and the B team meet at Ysgol Bodorgan.

9 BEES ENTERTAIN VALLEY.....
(07/04/07) Scheduled games for this weekend see the Under 9 As travel to Gaerwen while the Bs are at home to Valley Juniors.

TONIGHT'S JUNIOR NEWS.....
(05/04/07) Amlwch got revenge for Saturday's defeat this evening at Ysgol Bodorgan with a 2-1 win over Glan's Under 11 As, our goal coming from Gareth Hughes. Congratulations to Ryan Williams, Cameron Owen and Jake Hughes from the Under 9s who have been selected for the Anglesey squad following this week's trials. Tomorrow evening (Friday) there is entertainment at the Glantraeth Restaurant to raise funds for the Juniors. 'Cawl a chan singer Eurwyn' commences at 7.00 pm and tickets are 5 or you can pay on the door. It promises to be a great night please try and get along. Finally, apologies to Callum Moore, the hat-trick against Cemaes Bay last Saturday was given mistakenly to Cameron. It has now been corrected.

GOALS FROM EMYR AND DION SEE OFF AMLWCH.....
(02/04/07) Gareth reports: The under 11 A team were at Amlwch on Saturday and it was a good performance from the lads in a physical game in which they played some good football at times. Emyr Thomas opened the scoring after 6 minutes with a good run and finish, four minutes later Dion Williams doubled our lead with a good finish from a corner. It remained 2-0, well done all the lads. We will be playing Amlwch again at Bodorgan School on Thursday evening (5/4/07) 6:30 kick off. It should be another cracking game so come along and support the boys. Thanks Gareth. The under 9 B put in a great performance at Menai Bridge and looked as if we were heading for a draw, Aron Jones was solid in defence but in the end five late goals by the Tigers was a flattering scoreline. A good effort by all.

9 As TURN ON THE STYLE.....
(01/04/07) There was no fooling around today as the Under 9 As overcame Cemaes Bay by five goals to nil. Every player played his part in an outstanding team performance. Ryan Williams put Glan ahead after just 7 minutes with a thunderbolt of a shot and further goals by Callum Moore and Ryan gave the Bodorgan side a 3-0 interval lead. Despite playing against a strong wind after the break Glantraeth maintained their grip on the game with two further goals from Callum giving him a hat-trick. Photos

11 As AT AMLWCH.....
(29/03/07) Gareth takes the Under 11 A side to Amlwch on Saturday. The game kicks off 11.30 am at Amlwch Primary School. The Under 9 As are at home to Cemaes Bay with the Under 9 Bs travelling to face the Tigers of Menai Bridge.

THREE FROM RYAN IS JUST ENOUGH.....
(25/03/07) Bro Benllech Moelfre 2 Glantraeth Under 9 A 3. Bojangles reports: A 3-2 win for the Glan boys at Moelfre with Ryan Williams getting a hat-trick, a defensive mix-up costing Glan a needless goal to make it 1-1. A good passing move starting from the back with Ryan slotting in Glan's 2nd goal then against the run of play after a sloppy throw in Moelfre ran with the ball on the break a one-on-one with the keeper and score a good goal and now a nerve jangling 2-2. Another well worked goal see the Glan boys rip open Moelfre and Ryan slots in his 3rd. The Glan boy's again played good passing football and had by far the more attempts on goal with the 3-2 score line not fully reflecting the effort that they had all put in, Moelfre resorting to the same tactic as Boded last week in packing the box with bodies to block any shots that the Glan had, all's fair in love and war so they say and it's the result that counts, again all-in-all a deserved win.

UNDER 9s ON THE ROAD.....
(23/03/07) Scheduled games for the weekend see the Under 9 As travel across the Island to face Bro Benllech Moelfre while the Bs make the shorter journey to Gaerwen.

THANKS CAROLINE - WELCOME KAREN.....
(19/03/07) Karen Evans has now taken over as Treasurer of the Juniors in place of Caroline Owen who has stood down. Everyone in the Juniors thanks Caroline for her time as Treasurer.

HARRY WINS IT AT THE DEATH.....
(17/03/07) Cogs reports: Glantraeth 1 Bodedern 0. Excellent result for the boys today and definite one of the hardest games we've played this season. But a late goal came from our substitute Harry Evans in the dying seconds of the match, well done Harry. Today an excellent performance from our youngster Tony Moore, Well done Tony, and also well done to the Glan team for today's win.

UNDER 9s IN ACTION.....
(16/03/07) Glantraeth's Under 9 A Team are due to be at home to Bodedern at the weekend while the B Team travel to face Holyhead Hotspur Peibio with both sides hopeful of their first win of the season.

READY AND WAITING.....
(14/03/07) First signs of real progress on the new Juniors ground alongside the viaduct in Malltraeth is the arrival of a large portakabin waiting to be transported on to the site once access to the field has been constructed. The portakabin looks the perfect size to give the youngsters somewhere to change aa well as providing an excellent covered base on the ground. Photos of portakabin and new field now online. Latest (16/03/07): The portakabin has now been 'airlifted' on to the field.

BELOW STRENGTH 11 As GO DOWN.....
(12/03/07) Gareth reports that the Under 11 As suffered only their second defeat of the season at Moelfre on Saturday. With a few absentees and a very strong wind we lost 3-2, our scorers were Dion Williams and Gareth Hughes.

SHOWDOWN POSTPONED.....
(11/03/07) Due to other commitments the game between Glantraeth Under 9 As and Llanfair Hot Shots was not played at the weekend and will be rearranged for later in the season. Although their league season is finished Dave and Cliff arranged a squad game for the Under 11 Bs at Ysgol Henblas on Saturday. To make it interesting the teams were made up of Newborough and Dwyran v Bodorgan and Llangristiolus.

REAL TESTER FOR As.....
(08/03/07) Glantraeth Under 9 As become the latest side to challenge the Hot Shots 100% record this weekend when they travel to Llanfairpwll. It will be a tough test for the youngsters but with the talent in the side no-one would bet against them pulling it off. The Under 9 B team are at home to Llanfairpwll. Gareth reports that the Under 11 A now have a game away to Bro Benllech Moelfre on Saturday at Moelfre School, kick-off 10.30 am.

GAME OFF.....
(04/03/07) Today's Under 9 fixture at Ysgol Bodorgan between Glantraeth A and Amlwch was called off because of the adverse weather.

REDUCED PROGRAMME THIS WEEKEND.....
(28/02/07) No word in yet about any rearranged games this weekend so it looks like a reduced programme with the 11 Bs having completed their fixtures and the 9 Bs having no game. The Under 11 As travel east to face Bro Benllech Moelfre having only lost one game to date and must have an excellent chance of taking the points against the bottom placed side. An intriguing game is in prospect at Ysgol Bodorgan on Sunday (1.30 pm kick-off) when the Under 9 As entertain Amlwch and the youngsters will be looking to make amends having suffered a 3-2 reverse in a closely fought encounter at Amlwch back in November.

POOR START LETS DOWN BEES.....
(25/02/07) Dave reports on the 11 Bs: Llangoed were allowed to score their first goal directly from a free kick awarded after a fair tackle. That set the tone for the game which did not appear to be played on a 'level pitch'. There were too many elbows, stud first tackles and balls being kicked out of goalkeepers hands. Llangoed tackled ferociously and when our boys reciprocated it was they who were disciplined! We were up against a stronger team who did not really have to rely on others to achieve a deserved victory. Glantraeth struggled where we have all season. We defend the first wave of attack well and in numbers. We continue to fail to follow and chase the ball out on mass following clearances. The ball then boomerangs back into the box from the opposition midfield players who are not put under enough pressure. In the crowded goal mouth our goalkeepers are left to field unsighted and unchallenged shots and crosses. We played and competed Well for 25 minutes of the 40 and during our time on the ball we looked to cope quite well. Owing to the fact we leaked so many goals early doors heads do go down and our belief and will to continue the fight diminishes. Breaking the match down we lost the first 15 mins 6-0 and the final 25 mins 3-1. Final score 9-1 which was on a par with our earlier home defeat. Liam scored a nice goal after being put through by Aled 1 on 1 with the keeper and slotted it into the corner of the net well. Best player was Andrew Smith.

ARON ALMOST WINS IT WITH LAST KICK.....
(25/02/07) Dyfs reports: U9s B visited Gaerwen this afternoon and it was a cracking game played in good spirits by both teams and the Bees picked up the first point of the season. After going behind in the first half Glan looked sharper in second half and Arwel Griffiths is improving in goal with every game and pulled off some great saves, Aron Jones equalised through not giving up on the ball and playing to the whistle and the Jaffa Cakes seemed to have done the trick again! Gaerwen came back and took the lead with 5 mins to go and it looked all over until good passing between Sam Whithead, Aron and Jamie Williams resulted in Jamie finishing with a cracker past a very good Gaerwen goalie. We nearly took the lead with the last kick of the game as Aron skimmed the post. Dyfs says: "well done to all the boys". Final score: Gaerwen 2 Glantraeth B 2.

LATE GOAL SAVES CEMAES.....
(25/02/07) Gareth reports on the Under 11 A's home game with Cemaes Bay: A tough game this morning as Cemaes like ourselves have only lost one game this season. We took the lead 10 mins into the game with a well taken goal by Dion Williams who chipped over the defender, turned and volleyed into top corner; Second half Cemaes scored early on and were looking dangerous but Glan broke away and a long range effort from Dion gave us the lead, a tense few minutes saw Cemaes equalise with 3 mins to go, Thomas Evans nearly scored in the last minute as it finished in another draw. Credit to all the Glan players for keeping their discipline as the game was very competitive. Well done boys !!!!! Final score 2-2.

LAST CHANCE FOR BEES.....
(23/02/07) Dave and Cliff take the 11 Bs to Llangoed this weekend for their final league game of the season. Despite recent improvements the Bees face a tough task against their unbeaten opponents who were also winners of the Mn Tournament. The game is at Llangoed football field on Sunday, kick-off 12.00 noon. Gareth's 11 As are at home to Cemaes Bay who look favourites to win the group. The 9 Bs make the short journey to Gaerwen while the 9 As have no game.

SPONSORED WALK TOMORROW.....
(22/02/07) A reminder that the sponsored walk on Llanddwyn Beach is tomorrow (Friday). Please meet at the main car park 1.30pm. Please support this important fundraiser for the Juniors.

LIAM SAVES HIS BEST TO LAST.....
(19/02/07) Gareth reports: The under 11 A visited Llangefni B on Saturday and from our previous 3-3 game earlier this season we knew it would be a close game. Glan started off strong and played some brilliant football, passing the ball around and took the lead through a Iwan Parry shot from outside the box, Llangefni equalised with a cracking effort just before half time. The second half started well with both sides playing some nice passes Glan took the lead through some nice link up play from midfield and a excellent header by Dion Williams. Some relentless pressure fom Llangefni followed in which they equalised, followed by some close calls which our stand-in goalie Liam Owen deserves all the credit as he pulled off many point blank saves to earn a well deserved draw. Final Score 2-2. - In yesterdays game at Bodorgan the Under 9 Bees faced a good Cemaes Bay side who were physically a lot stronger than our boys who gave a good first half performance and Jamie Williams scored probably the best goal of the game with shot which flew in off the bar. Playing uphill in the second half took it out of them and Cemaes were on the attack most of the time despite some good goalkeeping from Arwel Griffiths the final score was Glan B 1 Cemaes Bay 8. Well done all the boys .

UNDER 9 As SQUEEZE IN EIGHT.....
(18/02/07) Cogs reports: When I first arrived at the Valley Junior pitch I looked at Bob Parry and the big question was, where we going to score/win today. With the goals being approx 6ft x 4ft I was beginning to think this could be a disastrous afternoon for Glantraeth. The first 10 min was very frustrating for the Glan team, they were creating, passing, and also firing good shots, but could not score. Eventually an own goal came from Valley juniors, was I glad. Now Glantraeth had gained belief that this was not an impossible mission. By the end of the first half we were 30 up. Second half we decided to give the youngsters Owen & Harri a go up front and Ive got to say, Ryan & Jamie watch yourselves. Eventually the game was over with the final score Valley 0 Glantraeth A 8, another great performance from all the boys, and also I would like to thank Valley Juniors and their supporters and the ref for a great afternoon. Scorers: Ryan 2, Jamie 2, Callum 1, Jake 1, Liam 1, O/G.

BEES RUN OUT OF TIME.....
(17/02/07) Dave Webster reports on the Under 11 Bs game against Llangefni A: It was a master class of quality passing, possession, balance and finishing in the first half as Llangefni dominated a lack luster Glantraeth B team in the first half. Fortunately the Bees only conceded 3 goals as they went into half time still rubbing the sleep from their eyes. The second half saw Llangefni continue to force Glantraeth onto the back foot but Glan resisted and put together some decent passing themselves with Jack Vaughan starting to become more and more involved putting over some dangerous crosses. Llangefni scored through a goal keeping error and then Glan missed a couple of sitters, getting no luck at all in front of goal! Llangefni scored a rasper but the flood gates did not open and Glan stuck to their tasks well and should have scored at least 3 goals. Considering we lost 7-0 in the previous away fixture with out making any impression on that game this was another improvement although we expected more. The frustrating fact remains that we have only 1 game left in the league which started too soon and was over too early for our boys. It is recognised that all our players have different levels of ability and have all tried really hard to compete as a team at a high level of football. Carwyn had another solid tackling and passing performance today so he is our MOTM. Final score was 5-0...

LOCAL RIVALRY FOR UNDER 11s.....
(15/02/07) The Under 11s face Llangefni Juniors at the weekend with the A side away to Cefni B and the B team at home to Cefni A's although results to date suggest that Llangefni's B's are the stronger of their two teams. Cogs and Bob take the Under 9 A's to Valley (2.00 pm Sunday at Valley rugby field) where a repeat of the 21-0 drubbing handed out in November might be too much to ask. Glan's Under 9 B's are at home to Cemaes Bay.

TIGERS TAMED BY GLAN UNDER 9 A.....
(11/02/07) Cogs reports: After a poor performance last week against a weaker side, the Glan A boys had a tough game ahead of them. Menai Bridge Tigers have proven to be a very good side and this was always going to a tough one. Today we were back to our full squad with Arthur Tate returning from an illness. First half was very even with the Glan Boys back to playing their usual excellent passing game and creating space. Second half was a much different game with Glan dominating play and creating more chances than ever, but finally a cross from Ryan Williams saw Jamie Roberts breaking the curse with an exceptional goal from the young genius. The second goal also came from Jamie but to be fair a 15 yds strike from Ryan which nearly shattered the cross bar rebounded perfectly for Jamie. Jamie was the right man in the right place making the final score 2-0. Well done to Cameron Owen and Jake Hughes who yet again played excellent football. Well done boys a great performance from a great team!

SO CLOSE FOR UNDER 9 B's.....
(11/02/07) Glantraeth's Under 9 B side went down 3-2 to Bro Benllech Moelfre this morning at Ysgol Bodorgan but only after a really gutsy performance against a much bigger side. The visitors playing with the slope were two ahead at the interval but after their half-time Jaffa Cakes the Glan youngsters began the second period with renewed energy with Alex Boss scoring to reduce the gap only for Benllech Moelfre to restore their two goal lead. In a grandstand finish Glan pulled another goal back through Jamie Williams and could easily have drawn level in the closing stages. Although Glan's Arwel Griffiths' mud covered kit confirmed he had been the busier of the two keepers, making several fine saves, a draw would not have flattered our youngsters after a fine display.

BEES GO DOWN ALL GUNS BLAZING.....
(11/02/07) Dave Webster reports: Glan U11 Bees were playing Trearddur Bay 1st Team! A couple of goal keeping errors and a lack of shapness in defence sent Glan into half time 5-0 down, conceding some gifted goals. Playing up the slope in the 2nd half the Bees started to show some belief in themselves and put together some good passing moves. This finally resulted in a well taken goal by Liam, a low half volley from about six yards out. This was a vast improvement again. The Trearddur Bay manager was rightly impressed and couldn't believe we were the same team that they played 2 months ago. The Glan boys went down all guns blazing 7-1. Our Man of the match was between Andrew at left back and Dion in midfield. I am sure a more concentrated, sustained and error free effort will reap rewards. The next game is at Henblas School at 10am Saturday 17th February 2007 when Llangefni Juniors A are the visitors. Our last home game...'Who Dares Wins'.

UNDER 11 A's SHARE POINTS.....
(10/02/06) A thrilling game this morning at Ysgol Bodorgan saw the Under 11 A Team draw 1-1 with Trearddur Bay Blues. Glantraeth had dominated the first half only to fall behind two minutes before the interval after a quick break by the visitors. The second half was more evenly fought with Glan getting a deserved equaliser from Dion Williams midway through the half. Late pressure from the home side saw the Bay keeper complete an outstanding display with more fine saves. Photos now online.

FULL PROGRAMME.....
(09/02/06) All our teams are scheduled to be in action this weekend, the Under 11 A's home to Trearddur Bay Blues, Under 11 B's away to Trearddur Bay Colts, Under 9 A's away to Menai Bridge Tigers (at Menai Bridge Little School on Sunday at 2.00 pm) and Under 9 B's home to Bro Benllech Moelfre.

SPONSORED WALK.....
(07/02/06) The sponsored walk originally scheduled for December but cancelled because of the weather has now been re-arranged for Friday 23rd February during the school's half-term holiday. The walk will be over about three miles on Llanddwyn Beach and everyone should meet at the main car park for a 10.30 am start. Please support this important fund-raiser for the Juniors. Parents are welcome to join us. Click here to download a form and please return to Cogs, secretary Robin Griffiths or your team manager.

NEW GROUND GATHERS PACE.....
(05/02/07) The Junior Club Committee met at the field kindly made available by Iolo Owen on Saturday to decide on a course of action to provide access and prepare the pitch. Chairman Richard Owen and Cogs are pictured getting a birds eye view of the site. The ground situated next to the viaduct at Malltraeth is flat and has excellent drainage and one full size pitch will be laid out and fenced off. The pitch can of course be sub-divided for younger age groups. There will be costs involved and several ideas have been put forward for raising funds to cover these costs including a function at the Glantraeth Restaurant and Glantraeth holding their own junior tournament this year.

BATTLING BEES GIVE THEIR ALL.....
(03/02/07) Dave Webster reports: Glantraeth Under 11 Bees were upbeat and went into the match with a determined attitude. Carwyn Griffths was drafted in to play in the midfield and he acquitted himself with honours. In fact the whole team played their hearts out throughout this match. The first goal was scored by the Tigers who stole in behind our defence to leave a one on one with the goal keeper. Two more goals were scored by the Tigers in similar fashion making the most of their advantage as they attacked down hill with the sun on their backs. Glan battled on and Aled Roberts found himself with a bouncing ball center right on the edge of the box. He struck a sweet volley looping into the roof of the net over the Goalie. John Webster made some point blank saves and we went in 3-1 at the break. Glan tried to press forwards but the ball ran away from them. Colin came on and got stuck in and the full backs all competed for the ball. Jack Vaughan had his best game for the team and was voted Man of the Match. Legs tired and in the final minutes as the Tigers scored a brace to make the score 5-1. This was unfortunate as Glan deserved a better result for all the effort shown. The next game is Trearddur Bay Colts away, at Rhoscolyn, land of the giants. Dave and Cliff were also delighted with the support the team got today.

WOODWORK DENIES UNDER 9 A's.....
(03/02/07) Llangefni Juniors finished 3-2 winners in this morning's local derby at Ysgol Bodorgan after surviving a late onslaught that saw Glan's Under 9 A side strike a post no less than four times. It was one of those days when nothing went right for the Glan youngsters, falling two goals behind in the opening ten minutes before Ryan Williams pulled a goal back before the break. Llangefni went 3-1 up early in the second period which triggered constant pressure from the home side, their only reward being a late strike from Jake Hughes. Both sides put tremendous effort into a thoroughly entertaining game spoiled only by one or two uncalled for remarks directed at an excellent young referee from the Llangefni support.

CRUNCH GAME FOR UNDER 9s.....
(01/02/07) Glantraeth Under 9 A's entertain local rivals Llangefni Juniors on Saturday in what seems certain to be a close and hard-fought encounter. The game is provisionally arranged for a 10.30 am kick-off at Ysgol Bodorgan. The Under 11 B side are away to Menai Bridge Tigers and the Under 9 B's travel to Bodedern. The under 11 A side have no game.

SEVEN MAN A's GREAT FIGHT-BACK.....
(28/01/07) Gareth Williams reports: The Under 11 A team were back to their winning ways yesterday morning. Llanfair opened the scoring within a few minutes whilst the Glan boys had a few injury problems with Emyr Thomas and Gareth Wyn both limping off and having to battle back playing with seven men, Thomas Evans heading in the equaliser before half time as they started to pile on the pressure. Gareth Wyn came back on in the second half and scored what proved to be the winning goal with a piledriver from outside the box that flew in the top corner. Some plucky defending and some great saves by Kieran Murphy late on ensured a well deserved win. We have no fixture next week but we will try and catch up with some of the games in hand we have. Final score: Llanfair Swifts 1 Glantraeth A 2

HAT-TRICK FOR JAMIE.....
(27/01/07) Bojangles reports: A solid performance all round given the conditions on a bleak and wind driven Holyhead pitch by Glantraeth Under 9 A's with Jamie Roberts netting two in the first half. Holyhead pulled one back in the second half to make it 2-1 then Ryan Williams made it 3-1 and Jamie finished them off with his hat-trick late into the second half. Final score Glan "A" 4 Holyhead 1, well done boys, and thank you to the Holyhead team and officials for a game of fair play.

LLANFAIR MADE TO STRUGGLE AGAINST BEES.....
(27/01/07) Dave Webster reports: The U11 Bees made a real game of it against Llanfairpwll. All 13 players had a piece of the action! Sloppy defending at a corner allowed Llan to score and they scored a further 2 goals following long range efforts. Glan had their chances but couldn't convert. The 2nd half was a dire battle in midfield with strong tackles going in from both sides. Morris Whalley netted from a free kick but this had to be ruled out as it was from a direct shot. Llanfair resorted to fouling at times finding the going a little tough. Aled Roberts showed his metal and was Glans' strongest player with a never say die attitude and suffered some heavy challenges only to get up and soldier on. Finally Glan conceded a goal at the final whistle which made the score 4-0. This flattered Llan who knew they had been in a game. Llan showed some sour grapes at the end which served only to confirm that the Bees have got their sting back. Well done to the Bees and Good luck to Morris who has been selected to play in the A team.

LLANFAIR PROVIDE MAIN OPPOSITION.....
(24/01/07) Three of Glan's Junior sides face opposition from Llanfairpwll at the weekend with the Under 11 A side away to Llanfair Swifts (10.30 am kick-off) and the Under 11 B side hosting Llanfair Sparks at Ysgol Henblas, Llangristiolus kick-off 10.30 am Saturday. The Under 9 B team entertain league leaders Llanfair Hot Shots with the Under 9 A's away to Holyhead Hotspur Peibio, kick-off 12.00 noon at Llanfawr School, Holyhead. The website continues to be provided with excellent information from Dave and Cogs (not forgetting Bojangles) so there is inevitably an emphasis on their teams but we could do with more news about the Under 11 A's and the Under 9 B's whether it comes from coaches, parents, supporters or players. Even news of postponements would be welcome. Just click on 'Contact Website' in adjoining column to send in news.

HIGH FIVE FROM UNDER 9s.....
(20/01/07) Bojangles reports: Well done to the under 9's A for winning their game against Llanfair 5-2, Llanfair were two nil up at half time and playing with a strong wind behind them. Cogs n' Bobs half time team talk did the trick, with the wind now on their backs the boys had equalized the score within 4 minutes of the second half kicking off, with Ryan getting a hat-trick Liam the 4th and Cameron the 5th and a thunder shot from Jamie which hit the cross bar nearly made it 6 to the Glan boys, a game of two half's so to speak!! Well done to all the team.

IF ONLY !! - LAMENTS DAVE.....
(20/01/07) Dave Webster reports: Yet again the U11 B's went down to a defeat against Holyhead. The defence/midfield were caught ball watching on too many occasions and fast attackers were able to sneak passed them and were left completely unmarked in dangerous positions, many times clear and left unchallenged on goal! Again the conditions were severe. Glantraeth had a strong wind at their backs in the first half as they went down 6-0 at half time. Quite frankly I was expecting the score to go into double figures in the 2nd half as the elements were now in Holyheads favour.Surprisingly the boys put up a terrier like display and kept Holyhead at bay for a long time eventually conceding 3 more goals. The final score was 9-0. On occasions Glantraeth show glimmers of hope. If only! they could play all their games with the same commitment and determination they showed in the 2nd half. The scores would be so different. Man of the match was Dylan Foulkes who wears his heart on his sleeve. Next week it is Llanfairpwll Swifts at Henblas School pitch.

ONLY UNDER 9 A's AT HOME.....
(18/01/07) Weather permitting all four junior sides are in action this weekend with the Under 9 A team the only one at home, to Llanfairpwll. The Under 11 A and B teams travel to Amlwch and Holyhead Hotspur Peibio respectively while the Under 9 Bs also travel to Amlwch.

BEES FEEL THE FORCE.....
(13/01/07) Dave Webster reports on today's game at Ysgol Bodorgan: Glantraeth B were savaged by a strong and ruthless Leopards side who were fielding players who Chester City have shown interest in. Glantraeth played up hill and against a howling wind and rain in the first half. Parents were afraid to get out of their cars and were eventually seen walking at a 45 degree angle, into the wind, towards the pitch. Glantraeth couldn't clear on numerous occasions allowing the Leopards easy opportunities to score. It was 7-0 at the break and heads went down. Glantraeth showed real spirit to soldier on in the second half and had scoring chances themselves which they couldn't convert into goals. As the game was lost substitutions were made. The subs did not discredit themselves and pushed forwards. The eventual score was 11-0 but more promise was shown this time than on their previous away encounter when we were unable to get one shot on goal..With a big sigh we go back to the drawing board...

WEEKEND NEWS.....
(12/01/07) Dave Webster reports: "The Under 11 B's are playing against Llandegfan at Ysgol Bodorgan at 10.30 am tomorrow, Saturday 13th Jan 2007. They beat us by a country mile in the away fixture and passed us off the park. We are looking for an improved performance this time around. This is our first match back after the winter break." Other fixtures see Glantraeth's Under 9 A and B teams coming face to face while the Under 11 A side travel to face Bodedern. A reminder that the coach for the Everton game leaves Ysgol Bodorgan at 10.00 am on Sunday 14th...Juniors are reminded to bring a packed lunch and warm clothing.

EVERTON VISIT THIS WEEKEND.....
(11/01/07) Tickets have been received from Everton Football Club and Glantraeth Juniors will be travelling to watch the Premiership game between Everton and Reading this coming Sunday. Cogs has promised some photographs of the visit.

GOOD NEWS FOR JUNIORS.....
(08/01/07) Iolo Owen has kindly made land available for Glantraeth Juniors, sufficient in fact for a full sized pitch situated near the viaduct at Malltraeth.

GAERWEN HOLD OUT FOR POINT.....
(07/01/07) A heroic rearguard action by Gaerwen saw them hold out for a 1-1 draw this afternoon against Glan's Under 9 A's. Playing with the slope and a strong wind in the first half Gaerwen took the lead in a rare attack but the second half was all Glantraeth with Jamie Roberts finally putting the teams level midway through the half. How Gaerwen survived was something of a miracle with Glan's final hope of victory going in the last minute as Ryan Williams smashed a shot against a post. Credit to both teams who worked like trojans in dreadful conditions. Photos now online.

RETURN TO ACTION.....
(02/01/07) Anglesey Junior League fixtures are due to resume this weekend after the holiday break with the Under 11 A and Under 9 A teams both hosting Gaerwen, the Under 9s kicking-off 1.30 pm Sunday, and the Under 9 B side travelling away to Valley Juniors. The Under 11 Bs have no game.

SPONSORED WALK POSTPONED.....
(29/12/06) Due to the weather conditions today's sponsored walk on Llanddwyn Beach has been cancelled and will now probably take place in January.

HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO EVERYONE.....
(20/12/06) Football re-commences on Saturday 6th January. In the meantime Happy Christmas to everyone associated with Glantraeth Juniors.

EPIC BATTLE GOES GLAN'S WAY.....
(17/12/06) The Under 9s A team triumphed in a tremendous contest at Cemaes Bay yesterday, finishing 1-0 winners with the goal coming from Cameron Owen. 'Bojangles' reports: The boys played well but so did Cemaes hence the 1-0 result, their goalie was the busier of the two sides and he pulled off some good saves, the glan keeper made two good stops and is improving with every game (well done Arthur), Cogs strengthend the defence with 5 mins to go by dropping Ryan in with the back three of Jake, Tony and Harry, the boys dealt with each Cemaes attack well when they came looking for the equalizer in the last minutes. The Glan boys had to work hard for their win against a strong side but they earned the win. Today the Under 9 B side lost 8-0 to Menai Bridge Tigers.

UNDER 9s TAKE CENTRE STAGE.....
(14/12/06) With both Under 11 sides without a fixture this weekend it is the Under 9s who take centre stage with the A Team travelling to face Cemaes Bay on Saturday. The game will be played at Cemaes Bay FC with a 12.00 noon kick-off. The Under 9 B Team are at home to Menai Bridge Tigers, 2.00 pm start at Ysgol Bodorgan.

UNDER 9s BACK TO WINNING WAYS.....
(09/12/06) Cogs reports: This was a match that the boys had to win and with two previous unlucky defeats behind them, they where on a mission today. Glan opened the score-line with a cross from Cameron Owen which saw Ryan Williams take full advantage with a cracking left foot in the bottom corner. BenllechMoelfre reacted instantly with a 10 yard thunder shot which saw our new keeper Arthur Tate make a remarkable save. Just before half-time a second remarkable goal came from Jamie Roberts. Second half Glan were in control creating chances which saw Cameron Owenss shot nearly shattering the crossbar in half. BenllechMoelfre applied pressure a few times but the boys kept it tight in the back leaving no room for errors. A brilliant performance which lead to 20 victory!

500 DONATION FROM NORTH WALES POLICE.....
(08/12/06) Community Beat Manager Iwan Jones is pictured with representatives of Glantraeth Juniors this evening at Ysgol Bodorgan following the donation of 500 by North Wales Police. The donation is expected to be used for the purchase of a container that will be used as changing accommodation for the youngsters. The photocall took place prior to the Prize Bingo which raised approximately 450 for the Juniors. Many thanks to all who contributed to such a successful evening. Photos

UNDER 9 A's FALL FOUL OF WEATHER.....
(04/12/06) The high winds over the weekend caused the Under 9 A's game at Bodedern to be called off. Cogs reports the game will be now be arranged during the Christmas holidays.

STILL ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT.....
(02/12/06) Glantraeth Under 11s B lost 8-0 to Llangoed. Although a loss was expected this was a little disappointing as the same old basic errors are being repeated inviting pressure and easy scoring opportunities. The whole squad were given opportunity to play against the league leaders. They proved too fast, strong and well organised and Llangoed bossed the game playing at full throttle. Although some Glantraeth players acquitted themselves well there is plenty for everybody to improve on. The under 11 B fixtures are finished until after Christmas. In the mean time there will be regular weekly training sessions for them at Bodedern School Gym from 6pm- 7pm starting Monday 4th Dec. Need a lift? Contact Dave or Cliff. Cars will be leaving Ysgol Hen Blas at 5.30pm, arriving back at 7.30pm. This is free of charge but will only last during what is left of the School term.On 3rd January the full artificial pitch at Plas Arthur has been booked for 12 weeks training for the whole Junior section. A 1 fee will be charged to help pay for the facility. Thanks. Tomorrow's Under 9 B game at home to Holyhead has been postponed.

CHANGE OF VENUE ?.....
(30/11/06) Please check with Robin Griffiths regarding your venue this weekend as home games are likely to be switched to Glantraeth because of work going on at Ysgol Bodorgan.

UNDER 11s LOOK FOR MORE POINTS AT CEMAES.....
(29/11/06) The Under 11 A side coached by Gareth Williams look to continue their good form at Cemaes Bay next Sunday in a game that kicks-off at 11.00 am, while the B Team face Llangoed at Ysgol Bodorgan, kick-off 10.30 am. The Under 9 A's look to put the disappointment of last week's narrow defeat by Llanfair Hot Shots behind them but face a tough game at Bodedern. The B Team host Holyhead Hotspur Peibio.

LOCAL RIVALS END ALL SQUARE.....
(26/11/06) A fine game between Glantraeth Under 11s A Team and Llangefni Juniors ended in a 3-3 draw. Glan were winning 3-1 but credit to Llangefni who fought back with two goals in the closing minutes. Coach Gareth Williams reports that all the lads gave a good performance, the scorers for Glantraeth being Dion Williams, Gareth W Hughes and Iwan Parry. Next Saturday they are away to Cemaes Bay, kick-off 11.00 am. The Under 9 A side went down 2-1 to Llanfair Hot Shots.

PRIDE IN DEFEAT FOR BEES.....
(25/11/06) Dave Webster reports: The U11 Bees went down to Llangefni A team 7-0. Missing 3 regular players they gave a good account of themselves and in the 2nd half 'dug in' hard and never gave up. Josh and Aled worked tirelessly in defence but the whole side are worthy of mention as they all put in maximum effort showing some good passing and positional play at times. Colin worked hard but few scoring opportunities were afforded by the older Llangefni team. Despite losing Cliff and I were proud of the boys. The next game is at Bodorgan School against Llangoed kick off 10.30am on Saturday 2nd December. Parents please remember to bring your prize Bingo contributions for ROBIN when you arrive!!....Cheers Dave

ALL ACTION WEEKEND FOR JUNIORS.....
(22/11/06) A busy weekend for the Juniors with four games lined up. Cogs reports that Glantraeth Under 9 A face Llanfair Hot Shots this Saturday at Ysgol Bodorgan School, kick off 10.30 am. The Hot Shots have won all three games and currently top their league so it will be a stern test for the Glan boys. Under 11's B coach Dave Webster was delighted with the A's win at Trearddur Bay last week and hopes it will give his team a lift. The Bees are away to Llangefni Juniors A at Ysgol Corn Hir this Saturday with a 10.30 am kick-off. Llangefni have recently had a 6-0 win against Llanfair Sparks and must be feeling confident. The Bee's managers and players are finding the league a tough test of character as well as skill. Passing and positional play are a priority as presently the boys are not getting full rewards for their effort. The Under 11 A Team have a home game scheduled with Llangefni Juniors B while the Under 9's B are due to be away to Llanfairpwll.

PRIZES AND VOLUNTEERS WANTED.....
(21/11/06) As already reported there will be a Prize Bingo at Ysgol Bodorgan on Friday 8th December at 7.00 pm to raise funds for Glantraeth Juniors. Secretary Robin Griffiths has sent out a letter to parents requesting volunteers to help in the kitchen, plus we need drinks, crisps, cakes, hot dogs, etc. We also require prizes for the Bingo so if you can help please contact your team manager as soon as possible to ensure we raise as much as possible for the Juniors.

UNDER 11s HIT BAY FOR SIX.....
(20/11/06) A storming performance was given by Glantraeth A Under 11s in gale force conditions at Trearrdur Bay. With Glantraeth playing against the elements Dion Williams after 40 seconds raced upfield to score. After 5 minutes Sam Hallas tried a long range effort which was deflected past the keeper. Trearddur tried valiantly but Gareth Wyn was a tower of strength in defence. The second half saw Emyr Thomas scoring for Glantraeth after 3 minutes then Glantraeth playing with the wind gained a fourth goal courtesy of a flying volley by a Trearddur defender. Dion Williams then rounded the keeper to add a fifth goal while Thomas Evans capped a great performance with a simple tap in. Manager Gareth Williams was pleased that Iwan Parry and Emyr Thomas had worked so hard in midfield and overall it was a tremendous team performance. Final score: Trearddur Bay...0 Glantraeth Juniors A under 11's...6
Under 9's bees go down! The Glantraeth under 9's B team visited Cemaes Bay on Sunday but although giving of their best they went down to a physically superior side. The game opened brightly enough but on ten minutes Cemaes scored and immeadiately scored again on twelve minutes. The defence gave a good account until the half time break with Nathan Waller in goal pulling off some good saves. Ben Molyneaux and Arwel Griffiths tackled and worked hard throughout. The second half saw Alex Boss and Jamie Williams coming on. Cemaes Bay scored five minutes into the second half and two more followed in quick successsion. Aaron Jones then made a number of good runs only to be snuffled out by the solid Cemaes defence. Two minutes from time Cemaes completed the victory with a final goal. Final score: Cemaes Bay...6 Glantraeth Juniors B...0

NAIL-BITER AT AMLWCH.....
(19/11/06) Cogs reports on yesterday's Under 9 A game at Amlwch: With the high winds and pouring rain the Glan Boys found this match a real test, and after the Valley victory the boys were still on a high. Glan opened the scoring with an excellent strike by Ryan Williams to make it 1-0, Amlwch responded with a thunder shot leaving our new keeper Arthur Tate gob smacked. With most of play at midfield Amlwch boys where determined to test our defence but our captain Jake Hughes had other ideas. But unfortunate the Glan boys conceded a corner, which lead to a cracking goal from the strong Amlwch side just before half time. Second half showed a much-improved Glan side dominating the run of play, but a slight misunderstanding from our skipper and goalkeeper saw Amlwch punish us with another goal. Glans dream of a victory was slowly fading, but the determination of Liam Jones proved to pay off making the sore line 3-2. After a few good strikes from Callum Moore and Cameron Owen this was not going to be our day. Final score Amlwch 3 Glantraeth 2 nail baiting performance from both teams. Photos now online.

IT COULD HAVE BEEN CLOSER.....
(18/11/06) Playing against league leaders Trearddur Bay Colts at Ysgol Bodorgan this morning the Under 11 B team eventually went down by five goals to nil but the scoreline could have been closer with Jonathan Pommerening missing a great opportunity to level at 1-0 down and Jack Evans seeing a tremendous effort bounce down off the underside of the crossbar as a skilful Bay side went on to lead 3-0 at the interval. Fine saves from keeper Carwyn Griffiths prevented the visitors extending their lead immediately after the interval but playing with the notorious Bodorgan slope Bay went on to score twice more before the final whistle.

GLAN JUNIORS HEAD NORTH.....
(16/11/06) Only the Under 11 B Team play at home this weekend as they look to continue their improvement when Trearddur Bay Colts are the visitors, kick-off 10.30 am at Ysgol Bodorgan, while the Under 11 A team are at Trearddur Bay Blues. The goal-hungry Under 9 A Team travel across the Island to Amlwch where they will face a tougher test than against Valley. The game kicks off at 10.00 am on Saturday at Amlwch Primary School. The Under 9 Bs have a re-arranged game at Cemaes Bay on Sunday, kick-off 11.45 am at Cemaes Bay FC's School Lane ground.

We will be giving the signed players the first opportunity to travel to the match. The players will pay a nominal fee towards the coach. They will be accompanied on the trip by the managers but there might be a limited supply of adult tickets available. There will be a charge for the adult tickets plus coach fee. It is proposed that the walk will be over three miles on the 29th December, a chance for parents to join us and walk off some of those extra pounds put on over Christmas! Your support will be much appreciated. Click here to download a form and please return to Cogs.

YOUNGSTERS GO DOWN FIGHTING.....
(12/11/06) Glantraeth Under 9s B Team went down 3-0 this morning at Ysgol Gymuned Bodorgan after a battling performance against a Gaerwen side that were just that bit physically stronger. The game was played very competitively but with a marvellous spirit amongst players, coaches and parents alike. Photos now online.

ALED'S OPENER GIVES UNDER 11s HOPE.....
(11/11/06) Dave Webster reports: The under 11 Bees ran Menai Bridge close today but sadly did not take home the spoils. The Bees started well and matched Menai Bridge for 10 minutes and then were put under pressure but the defence managed to hold out 'till half time. It was a goalless first half. The second half saw Aled Roberts through on goal and he put the ball into the corner of the net. Glantraeth were 1-0 up and looking good. The wheels then came off and the Bees relaxed too much and allowed Menai Bridge to attack. Menai Bridge scored and Glantraeth sprung to life again only to concede an unlucky second. Substitutions were made but despite a valiant effort the boys lost 3-1.

UNDER 11 BEES LOOK FOR FIRST POINTS.....
(08/11/06) Last week Glans Under 11 B team narrowly missed out on their first points of the season despite missing three key players but coach Dave Webster is hoping the breakthrough is not far away although this Saturdays fixture at Glantraeth will be a tougher test against a stronger Menai Bridge Tigers side. Kick-off is 10.30 am. The Under 11 A team have no game. After their goal avalanche of last Sunday Glantraeths Under 9 A Team will also be frustrated to not have a league game this weekend while the B Team entertain Gaerwen at Ysgol Gymuned Bodorgan on Sunday, kick-off NOW PUT BACK TO 1.00 PM due to it being Remembrance Sunday.

EIGHT-GOAL RYAN LEADS THE ROUT.....
(05/11/06) Glantraeth's Under 9 A Team won 21-0 against Valley Juniors this morning at Ysgol Gymuned Bodorgan with Ryan Williams leading the goal rout with eight. Other scorers were Jamie Roberts (5), Cameron Owen (4), Liam Jones (3) & Jake Hughes. The Valley team were well served by their goalkeeper Shane Ward during 40 minutes of incessant pressure on their goal. Glan's talented youngsters were unstoppable and even allowing for the inexperienced opposition it will take a good team to stop them this season. Photos now online. The Under 9 B Team's game at Cemaes Bay was cancelled.

UNDER 11s COME CLOSE.....
(04/11/06) In today's Under 11 fixtures Glan's A Team drew 1-1 at home to Llanfair Swifts while the B Team came close to their first points of the season, hitting the post in the first half before being narrowly beaten 1-0 away to Llanfair Sparks.

UNDER 9s GET DOWN TO SERIOUS ACTION.....
(02/11/06) The Under 9s start their Anglesey Junior League campaign this weekend in what promises to be a long and testing season as with only one division of 13 teams fixtures are scheduled right through until May of next year. The Under 9s A Team take on Valley Juniors at Ysgol Gymuned Bodorgan on SUNDAY morning, kick-off 10.30 am, while the B Team travel to Cemaes Bay for their opening fixture. The Under 11s A Team entertain Llanfair Swifts at Glantraeth while the B team will be giving their new kit its first outing at Llanfair Sparks.

THANKS FOR A MARVELLOUS TIME .....
(01/11/06) The Under 11 B team were today presented with their impressive new kit sponsored jointly by Halen Mn and the Anglesey Sea Zoo. To complete a marvellous occasion for the youngsters they were allowed to explore the incredible attractions of the Sea Zoo following the photocall. Many thanks to David and Alison and all their staff for making it such a memorable occasion and for their support of the youngsters and not forgetting Cliff of course for bringing it all together. Click here for larger images of photocall.

A TRIP TO THE ZOO.....
(31/10/06) Cliff Vanden Blink (pictured), coach of Glantraeth's Under 11 B team with Dave Webster, has arranged for a photocall down at Anglesey Sea Zoo at Brynsiencyn for 4.30 pm tomorrow afternoon when the official presentation of their new kit sponsored by Halen Mn will be made.

PHOTOGRAPHS - CLARIFICATION.....
(30/10/06) My piece about the inclusion of photographs on the junior website seems to have caused some concerns that complaints might have been made about the use of photographs. I can assure you that that is not the case in fact I have received nothing but complimentary remarks about the junior website for which I thank you. I was simply making it known that I was aware of my responsibilities and in keeping with the guidelines mentioned think it sensible in future not to link any players name directly with their picture. I have also been informed that the parents of the Glantraeth juniors have already given permission for photographs to be taken, something I was not aware of. In other words, it's carry on as normal. (SS)

NEW LEAGUE WEBSITE.....
(30/10/06) The Anglesey Junior Football League have now published a new website specifically for the Under 9s and Under 11s. The link on this page has now been changed to direct you straight to the new site. We still have no news of how our Under 11 A team went on at Amlwch over the weekend (since learned game was not played).

HONOURS EVEN FOR UNDER 9 A's.....
(30/10/06) In yesterday's friendly Glantraeth Under 9s A team fought out a 2-2 draw with their Llangefni counterparts. Richard 'Cogs' Williams reports that the Glan boys dominated this high capacity crowd game in Llangefni. All the team put in a fantastic performance, with Cameron Owen & Jake Hughes capping off their outstanding appearances with 2 great, well deserved goals. Several chances came our way, but failing to score was always going to leave the door open for Llangefni. Llangefni actually opened the scoring with both their goals coming in the first half. Following Cogs half-time team talk Cameron Owen put his scoring boots on and let fly with a 20-yard right foot shot. Several chances later and little time left on the referee's watch Jake Hughes came up with the equaliser in the final minute! A great individual goal with Hughes running all the way from his own box and unleashing a thunderous shot from outside Llangefni's box. Their keeper had no chance! It may be said that the result may have been harsh on Glantraeth, as when taking into account Glan's shots on goal and possession throughout the game, a win may have been a fair result. In the B team friendly Llangefni came out on top by two goals to one, Jamie Evans the scorer for Glan.

PHOTOGRAPHS ON WEBSITE.....
(29/10/06) I am aware that Glantraeth Junior Football Club are fully committed to implementing all child protection policies and have a Child Welfare Officer in Helen Thomas. Obviously one of the features of the Glantraeth Junior Website recently introduced has been the inclusion of team photographs and action photographs on the site. As Website Manager I personally believe it makes the site more interesting to everyone but I do have to be mindful of guidelines put out by the Child Protection in Sport Unit regarding Using Photographs of Children on Websites. These guidelines are reproduced on the new Child Protection page. To get written parental permission for every player in every photograph used would be impossible. Having said that I think the website would lose a great deal if photographs were not included. Until informed otherwise I will continue to include photographs in what I hope is a responsible manner but will not identify any child by name in future. If any parent wishes to have a photograph removed from the site they can contact me by email (address on this page) or by telephone (01407 840747) and the image will be removed as quickly as possible. I hope this is a compromise that will meet with general approval. Stan Strickland, Website Manager.

MUCH BETTER SAYS DAVE.....
(28/10/06) A much improved performance from all the Glantraeth B team gave Holyhead a run for their money (writes coach Dave Webster). Holyhead tried to dominate the game with forceful play and slick passing but Glantraeth coped quite well, with the new boy Andrew Smith playing well in his left back role. At half time Glantraeth were two down thanks to stout team defending and solid goalkeeping from John Webster. The changes were rung for the second half as on came Guto Jones and Jonathan Pommerening, two more left footers to add to the two already on the field! Carwyn Griffiths took over in goal and again acquitted himself well. With the extra defender now available this allowed Aled Roberts into midfield and Morris Whalley to push forwards with Jonathan P. Holyhead were still a threat and Glantraeth conceded two more goals. The boys did not give up and pressed forwards. This resulted in some good wing play and passing between Morris and Jack Evans who crossed from the right to Aled Roberts who scored with a strong header. He was promptly mobbed by his fellow players who were all ecstatic. Well done to the all the Bee's who stung Holyhead for one! They play Llanfairpwll away next week..

WEEKEND PREVIEW.....
(25/10/06) Glantraeth Under 11s A team are away to Amlwch this weekend in a league fixture while the B team faces Holyhead Hotspur Peibio at Glantraeth on Saturday with a 10.30 am kick-off. Coach Dave Webster is looking for an improved performance from the youngsters. "This will be the first time the B side have played at Glantraeth since their formation last year. Holyhead A team will be a strong test of character for the boys as we were a little dismayed with our mauling from the Leopards last weekend. Llandegfan were by far the best team we have encountered in our travels so far! I know that the boys have a 'never say die spirit' and they will steadily improve and become a stronger unit as the season progresses. This is a big learning curve for the youngsters and they will find themselves up against some well drilled and crack outfits..we are all determined to give our best and put the sting back in the Bee's..." The Under 9s A and B teams have friendly matches organised for next Sunday against Llangefni at Ysgol Corn Hir Llangefni. Kick off 2.30 pm, with the A team playing the first match.

TERRY TAKES CHARGE OF UNDER 7s.....
(24/10/06) The new coach of Glantraeth Under 7s is Terry Barton. Terry can be contacted by phone on 01248 440782 or by email at Terrybarton7@aol.com.

UNDER 9s FIXTURES AVAILABLE.....
(23/10/06) Glantraeth Under 9s A team commence their Anglesey Junior League fixtures on Saturday 4th November at home to Valley Juniors while the same day the B team are away to Cemaes Bay. There will be one Division consisting of the following teams: Glantraeth A, Valley Juniors, Amlwch, Menai Bridge Tigers, Llanfair Hot Shots, Llangefni Juniors, Bodedern, Holyhead Hotspur Peibio, Bro Benllech Moelfre, Llanfairpwll, Cemaes Bay, Glantraeth B & Gaerwen. Under 9s A and Under 9s B fixtures now online.

LITTLE REWARD FOR UNDER 11s A.....
(22/10/06) A good Bodedern side ran out 7-0 winners in this morning's Anglesey Junior League game at Glantraeth. Coach Gareth Williams was disappointed with his team's first half performance that saw them two goals down at the break, describing it as 'flat'. Ironically, he got far more urgency after the interval with Glantraeth having an equal share of the play and coming close to scoring on several occasions but time after time the youngsters were caught on the break by a Bodedern side whose finishing was first rate. Photos now online.

LEOPARDS SHOW THEIR CLAWS.....
(21/10/06) Glantraeth Under 11s B team began their league fixtures today away to Llandegfan Leopards. The home side opened well with two goals in the first three minutes. Glan rallied and played some good football with the half-time score remaining at 2-0. In the second half some elementary errors saw Llandegfan again score two early goals with their number 9 taking firm control of the game. The Glantraeth boys kept going until the end with some fine saves from keeper Carwyn Griffiths helping keep Llandegfan to three more scores. Some good news is the team has now received their new playing kit sponsored by Halen Mn. Glantraeth Under 11s A team are due to play their home league fixture with Bodedern at Glantraeth tomorrow morning.

UNDER 9s FIXTURES.....
(17/10/06) The Anglesey Junior Football League were holding a meeting last night to determine the format of the Under 9s League for the coming season. League Fixture Secretary Graham Hughes will then prepare the fixtures for the season which is expected to commence the first weekend in November.

DOUBLE HEADER GOES GLAN'S WAY.....
(14/10/06) A large crowd were present at Ysgol Bodorgan this morning to enjoy the sunshine and see Glantraeth Under 9s take on Llangefni in a double header. The Under 9s B team won 1-0 through a goal from Jamie Williams. It was a good team performance and Alexander Boss perhaps exemplified the spirit throughout the side with a non-stop display that saw him just about cover every blade of grass on the pitch. Following immediately after Glantraeth Under 9s A completed the double with a 3-2 win, the goals coming from two superb first half strikes from Jamie Roberts and Liam Jones with Ryan Williams adding another after the break to make it 3-1 as the home side got well on top, several times coming close to adding to their tally. A late goal from Cefni, who were well served at the back by their number 4, made for a nervous last few moments before the final whistle sounded. Outstanding in defence for Glan was Jake Hughes. Photos now online. It has now been learned that the Under 11s A team began their Anglesey Junior League fixtures this weekend with a 1-1 draw at Gaerwen, scorer Dion Williams.

THE SEASON GETS UNDERWAY.....
(11/10/06) The Anglesey Junior League Under 11s Alaw Section gets underway this Saturday with Glan's Under 11 A team making the short journey to Gaerwen. Kick-off is 10.30 am. Two friendly games have been arranged for Saturday morning when the Under 9s A and B teams entertain Llangefni at Ysgol Gymuned Bodorgan. Action commences at 10.30 am.

RYAN'S GOAL DOES IT.....
(07/10/06) A second half goal by Ryan Williams gave Glantraeth Under 9s A a 1-0 win over Gaerwen this afternoon. A fairly even first half saw both keepers make good saves but after the break Glan took control and only a truly outstanding display by Gaerwen's keeper kept the score down. Ryan Williams also hit a post in a game where the skills of Jamie Roberts really caught the eye. Photos now online.

UNDER 11s IN WINNING FORM.....
(30/09/06) Dave Webster reports that Glantraeth A side won a hard fought match with a Llanfairpwll A side this morning 2-1. Glantraeth A dominated the match with Llanfairpwll struggling to get a sight of goal. The Under 11's B side also won their match with Llanfairpwll B 3-0. Again this score did not reflect the run of play and Llanfairpwll were forced to play some of the players involved in the earlier game to avoid a heavier defeat. This was very encouraging for all the Glantraeth players from both camps. Photos now online.

MORE SPONSORSHIP ANNOUNCED.....
(28/09/06) Further sponsorship of the juniors has been secured from Paintwise, Painter & Decorator. Propriertor Barry Hannam is pictured making the presentation to Under 9's coach Richard Williams. Barry said he was proud to sponsor Glantraeth Juniors and wished them all the best for the season. Many thanks to Paintwise for their sponsorship.

UNDER 11 FIXTURES RELEASED.....
(25/09/06) Fixtures have been released today for the Britannia and Alaw Under 11's Sections of the Anglesey Junior Footall League. Fixtures for October see Glantraeth A begin on Saturday 14th October away to Gaerwen followed by Bodedern at home and Amlwch away over the following two Saturdays. Glantraeth B, competing in the Britannia Section, commence on Saturday 21st October away to Llandegfan Leopards and a week later entertain Holyhead Hotspur Peibio. Full fixtures for both Under 11 teams are now online. Go to your team's home page and click on fixtures. The Under 9's fixtures are due to be released shortly and games are expected to begin the first weekend in November.

NO LUCK FOR UNDER 11s.....
(22/09/06) A gutsy display by Glantraeth Under 11s B team saw them eventually go down to a 6-0 defeat against Gaerwen Under 11s A team this evening but the youngsters can feel hard done by after a penalty appeal following a blatant hand ball early in the second half was refused with Gaerwen immediately racing upfield to make it 2-0. Not surprisingly heads dropped a little after that but coaches Dave Webster and Cliff Vanden Blink must have been encouraged by a goalless first half where they matched the home side all the way. Team photo

NEW SPONSOR COMES ON BOARD.....
(21/09/06) Rob Owen of R.G.Owen Ltd is pictured making a presentation of sponsorship money to Richard Williams, coach of Glantraeth Under 9s. It is another marvellous example of a local company supporting our youngsters and Richard wished to express his appreciation through the website: "On behalf of Glantraeth Juniors I would like to thank Rob for his kind sponsorship. The money will go towards new equipment."

WEEKEND FRIENDLIES.....
(19/09/06) Two friendly fixtures scheduled for this coming Friday evening see Glantraeth Under 11s 'A' team away to Penrhosgarnedd at Ysgol Treborth in Bangor and the Under 11s 'B' team at Gaerwen. Both games kick-off at 6.30 pm.

YOUNGSTERS PREPARE FOR ACTION.....
(18/09/06) The Under 9s began training on Sunday at Glantraeth's Trefdraeth ground as they prepare for the new season in the Anglesey Junior League under the supervision of coaches Richard Williams and Bob Parry.

A photo of last season's Glantraeth Under 9s B team coached by Dave Webster and Cliff Vanden Blink has now been added to the photo archive. MESSAGE FROM JUNIOR CLUB SECRETARY.....
(10/09/06) Our aim this year is to promote football skills in age groups under 7s, under 9s and under 11s. All teams will play in the Anglesey Junior league. There will also be tournaments for the teams to enter and we will be creating our own mini-tournaments. We will endeavour to provide footballing opportunities to all our members. Coaching will be 1 per session but all matches will be free of charge. There will be football trips and parties arranged at various times during the year.
If you can help providing any of the following: sponsorship, resources, footballs or any other please contact any team coach or myself (see contacts page).
We look forward to providing the players at Glantraeth with a happy and successful season.
Yours in sport, Robin Griffiths, Junior Club Secretary.
