FOOD LIST

 

THIS IS THE FOOD I PACKED FOR A 14 NIGHT SELF-SUFFICIENT TRIP

 

Weight (and volume) was a significant consideration. I also wanted to keep it fairly simple. All food was from a local supermarket.

 

QUANTITIES ARE ON A PER PERSON AND PER DAY BASIS

 

 

BREAKFAST:

3 hand-fulls of granola

2 1/2 tablespoons of ground coffee

3 tablespoons of powdered milk

 

LUNCH: 

left-over dinners

(bring Tupperware container)

1 tortilla

aged cheddar

alfalfa sprouts

 

SNACKS/DESSERTS:

peanuts

candied peanuts

banana chips

fig-newtons

granola bar or sesame snap

 

 

DINNER: 

½ cup of rice (brown or white)

½ cup of lentils or chickpeas*

             OR

pasta 150 grams

(use tomato based dried soup for sauce,

add veggies & pepperoni)

            WITH

dried vegetables

fresh green beans

courgette

pepperoni

cauliflower florets

red pepper

(supplement with fresh fish)

 

* note: chickpeas must be pre-soaked the    previous night.

 

SPICES:

powdered garlic

ginger

curry

chili

hot chili

basil

mustard

soup mixtures: tomato & basil,

cheese & broccoli

pesto sauce

instant refried beans

herbal tea bags.

 

 

TYPICAL DINNERS (on a previous shake-down trip; they all tasted pretty good):

1st night; Rotini with Italian sausage, courgette, basil & tomato sauce with pesto.

2nd night; white rice with green beans, lentils, curry & ginger and fresh trout.

3rd night; brown rice with lentils, green beans, basil, garlic & pepperoni.

4th night; brown rice with chickpeas, tomato basil sauce, garlic, medley of veggies (green beans & courgette)
