I do not know the source of these statistics on water which were e-mailed to me by a friend: 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is often mistaken for hunger. Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's metabolism much as 3%. One glass of water shut down midnight hunger pang for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a U-Washington study. Lack of water, the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer. Here is an interesting and yet challenging idea:--superhydration which involves drinking a whopping 128 ounces per day. I tried it myself for two days and was unable to keep at it. But for those who are interested I provide this link to Superhydration-A key step in losing fat efficiently. |

Most of us do not drink enough water. It is recommended that we drink at least 8-10 glass of water or a minimum of 64 ounces per day in order for our bodies to function properly. Those of us who are overweight should drink an additional 8 ounces of water for each 25 pounds we are overweight. Another rule of thumb is to drink half your body weight in ounces of water each day. |
