LOCAL NEW JERSEY HISTORY
The Ardena School No. 2 is a restored one-room schoolhouse in Central Howell, NJ.
Edward,(left) ponders the fate of Abner Thorp, an original settler of the Central Howell area. On the back is a memorial stone stating that he was an "original friend" of the nation, having served in the Revolutionary War.  The grave is obviously repaired and his wife Eunice is buried next to him.  The Thorp Family cemetary (above) lies a few feet from the banks of the Manasquan Reservoir.  Abner appears to be the earliest occupant of the graveyard -- it looks like he was buried in 1781.
This is the Foreman's Cottage at Allaire Restored Village in Howell.. Allaire was a community that foundered iron out of bog in the early. 1820's.
