Ian joined the cast of Emmerdale in 1993, as the farming Glovers son. Almost as soon as he joined, he endeavoured in an affair with rich bitch Kim Tate, known for her maneating attitude. He soon became intranced by her spell, and the two ended up gettting caught by Kim's husband, Frank, when he set up a suvelliance camera in the bedroom. The two spilt up for a bit, and Dave soon found refuge in Kathy Tate. She had heard about his womenising, but he reassured her that he loved only she and that Kim was in the past. However, Kim was carrying a baby and she led Dave into thinking that baby James was his son. He devoted much time to James but infact the child was Frank's, though Dave would never find this out. Kathy and Dave married but a few short weeks later, on Boxing Day, Dave died following a house fire at the Tates. He had gone back into the building as baby James was asleep in his cot. He suffered carbon dioxide poisioning in the lungs, and Kathy was by his bedside as he died.
While in Emmerdale, Ian learned a few home truths about female fans, and romance. He came to realise that there are some people out there that wanted to know him purely for the money, glamour and fame. Although it hasn't affected him long term, it certainly made him more wary when starting a relationship.
When Ian joined the Cast, Dave Glover was orignally cast as 21. So, to make the character more believable, Ian would knock years off his age (At the time, Ian was in fact 24) when being interviewed, which misled journalists. Funny, if you ask me! |
