FAQ's

How old do I have to be?
18 or if you are a minor then you must have parental consent, and your parents must be present to sign a waver form.

Does it hurt?
This is the #1 asked question! The short answer: no. But it all depends on the piercing you want, and the type of person you are. Most do not hurt though, and most people's reactions are "that was all? I thought that would hurt a lot more!". That was exactly my reaction. The clamps usually hurt more than the actual piercing.

Can I use an anaesthetic?
ONLY a doctor can give an anaesthetic, so you would have to find a doctor that also does piercings, which brings in a whole new set of problems. The needle to give the anaesthetic also hurts worse than the actual piercing because you are getting a needle under the skin and then something injected whereas the piercing is a second of a quick pain, if any pain at all. My advice: its not worth it. The pain is anything but unbearable. Numbing sprays/creams are also are not effective because they only numb the first layer of skin so you can still feel the piercing. If you must numb the area, use an ice pack.

Does it hurt after the piercing?
It is a little sore after, but this also depends on the piercing. Tongue piercings swell a lot afterwards, and affect people's ability to eat. Navel piercings are not that sore afterwards, just be wary of someone bumping into it.

Does it bleed?
As long as you are not drinking or taking aspirin before which thins the blood, you should not have any trouble with bleeding. In rare cases some people do bleed, and some piercings bleed after the piercing itself is complete. This is most common with oral piercings. The most bleeding during a piercing occurs when something is dermal punched.

How long does it take?
The piercing itself takes about 2 or 3 seconds while the entire process of setting up and discussing after care takes about 10-15 minutes.

Can I bring my friends?
It depends on the piercer and their preferences. Don't expect to be able to bring your six siblings, their friends, your friends, and your dog in there, but usually a parent and a friend or a couple of friends are permitted.

What if I have a phobia of blood or needles?
Be sure to tell your piercer this and they should take extra time to talk to you about it. They can make sure that you don't see the needle or any blood, if there is any. I never saw my needle!

Can I get HIV or Hepatitis?
Of course there is always the very very small chance of it, but as long as your piercer autoclaves everything or gets it from sterile packages you should have no worries.

What if I get an infection?
Go to a body piercer and ask their advice. Do not immediatly go to a doctor unless there is a huge problem because most doctors will immediatly assume the worst and tell you to take it out when a piercer is more knowledgeable about piercings and may have some advice for you so you can save your piercing and not be out of some money.

What about swimming?
Try to stay away from public pools for the first few months, especially with a navel piercing. Some oceans are ok to swim in, but watch for pollution. Hawaii's oceans are very clean and actually help the healing process immensly. If you must swim somewhere then be sure to clean your piercing right after with antibacterial soap.

To gun or not to gun?
Piercing guns are very controversial. Though I would say DO NOT EVER GET ANYTHING PIERCED WITH a gun!!!!That is my opinion.  NEVER USE A GUN TO PIERCE ANYTHING BESIDES YOUR LOBES!!! Guns should NEVER be used for noses, rooks, daiths, etc. Guns should really not be used for upper ear cartilidge either, but its a personal choice.

What is dermal punched?
A device called a dermal punch is used to punch out a hole that is fairly large.
See a pic. If you don't want to wait to stretch something and have a high pain tolerance this may be the way to go.

What is scalpelling?
A scalpel is used to cut a slit in an area to insert larger guage jewelry. If you don't want to stretch a piercing than this may also be the way to go.

Can I just pierce myself?
Well of course you can but I DO NOT recomend it. A profesional knows what they are doing and DIY piercings are at a higher risk for infection. DIY tongue piercings are also dangerous because there are large veins in your tongue and you may hit one which would be very very bad! Just cough up the money and go to a profesional. Is it worth losing a body part or your life?

Why do you not have prices on here?
Because prices vary from shop to shop. Call ahead to the studio you plan to go to.
