Carcass  'Necroticism Descanting The Insalubrious'
Earache , 1992
Lord Pale :
The return of the English grind legends sees an expansion on their sound into more accesible relams . The songs have some actual structuring this time around and are audible enough and varied enough to pick out individual tracks . Using a series of samples to start their songs about killing , pathology and the like , Carcass use heavy extremely catchy chunky riffs to set the beat along with adequate sticksmanship and doublekicks , whilst melodic overlays and leads howl inbetween . The vocals remain a snarly rasp , tearing through some pretty grand lyrics about glueing corpses back together , and tinning up human meat to feed to animals , in their usual biology textbook fashion . The quality of songwriting contained on this Necroticism... has improved out of sight since their last release as has the production making the true talent of this warped band unvieled for all to see . A few brief acoustic passages add to the interest and a cover full of open wound surgery adorns the cd case . Classic material , classic band , get it now you metal heathens .

Carcass  'Heartwork'
Earache , 1994
Lord Pale :
Every so often an album comes along that sets the standard for all metal to follow , and Heartwork is such and album . More catchy brilliant riffs and melodic lead sections than most bands manage in a career are contained within Heartworks's hallowed grace . Every song is a classic , the production gives the guitars a sensational sound and they just sing to your ears , combining elements from rock and powermetal into the grind format , Carcass have come up with a truely superb album . The rasping vocals have ben perfected again and now snarl out more mature lyric based on themes like WW2 ( Arbiet Macht Fleisch ) and Shakespear ( Blind Bleeding The Blind ) . From the speedy triumphant 'This Mortal Coil' with its horse gallop double kicks and shredding riifs through to 'No Love Lost's' saucy riffing and slower heavier agression , Heartwork bleeds perfection . The title track is surely one of the best metal songs ever written , this is metal genius RESPECT ! infidels . Featuring a sculpture by H.R Giger of an aluminium skeletal construction called 'Life Support' on the front cover art , Carcass have gone to the effort with this album 100% . Get this now , I don't care what type of metal you listen to , if you like metal , you must own this album .

Carcass  ‘Swansong’
Earache , 1996
Lord Pale :
Carcass return with their final opus the appropriately titled Swansong . Swansong is comparable to the music of Heartwork but less technical , less extreme , slower , and more catchy obviously to attract more listeners . The whole feel and tempo of the album is like ‘No Love Lost’ , groovy yet heavy rhythms , a crystal clear production , and memorable chorus’ whilst still retaining plenty of variation . The vocals are still delivered in a charismatic snarl but the lyrics again further distance themselves from the original medical gore themes and move into realms like politics and more human issues . There are still plenty of melodic leads throughout the album and there is no doubting Carcass’ ability to write killer riffs and Swansong is full them . The structuring song writing is also top notch , although a little more simplified this time , and the catchiness of the album may well work to its detriment in the future after repeated listening . Some older fans might be turned off by some of the more cheesier lyrics like “twinkle , twinkle blackstar” and the terrible chorus of ‘Go To Hell’ ( which is a terrible song in actual fact ) but there is still plenty to satisfy the lovers of old Carcass as well . For example the awesome ‘Firm Hand’ with its acoustic interludes and blazing leads , and the solo trade offs in ‘Tomorrow Belongs To Nobody’ . I fail to see where Carcass could have evolved after this album without being dubbed a sell out and am glad that at least one band is quitting while they are ahead leaving their legacy untarnished . Overall another gem in the Carcass crown .
