Crowbar “Crowbar” Pavement, 1993 Gloon: First things first, this album was produced by Pantera frontman Phil Anselmo who would later on collaborate with members of the band to form Down, however Crowbar are far from sounding like Phil’s famous band. Crowbar play extremely down tuned, bottom end focused metal, which hardly ever reaches anything close to blistering speed. On the side of vocals all I can say is he sounds like a younger ‘Godfather’ who is pretty pissed off. Musically Crowbar create a good atmosphere within the confines of their style and ability, songs such as ‘High Rate Extinction’ and ‘All I Had I Gave’ create a kind of intensity and feeling which doesn’t require extreme speed or aggression, much similar to the way that Manowar do. For me the stand out is the cover ‘No Quarter’ which I find very powerful and moving. Overall a good release, and hopefully a sign of good things to come. Favourite Tracks – All I Had I Gave, No Quarter, Self Inflicted Mark – 7.5/10 |
