Dark Funeral 'Diabolus Interium' No Fashion Records, 2001 Lord Pale: Returning in good form, Dark Funeral present Diabolus Interium, their second relase since their reformation. Holding true to their usual style of Swedish blackmetal with fast riffing and blastbeat drumming, there is no real surprises to be had on the progressive front, but that's what bands like this are about. Keyboards drone in the background but never come to the fore for timing changes, they are merely there to add an extra element behind the guitars. Musically riff based like Immortal or Judas Iscariot, but sounding far more generic than either of those bands which I ascribe to the slick Abyss Studios production job that kills any real cult atmosphere that the album could have mustered. Blasphemous lyrics are again the theme with antichristian ideals and contemplations on inner demons coming to the surface all rasped out in once again a rather generic blackmetal rasp with a few occasional deathy growls. Overall nothing highly original but, a reasonable release of standard late 90's blackmetal. Favourite Tracks - Diabolus Interium, Thus I Have Spoken, Heart of Ice Mark - 7/10 |
