Dies Ater 'Through Wierd Woods' Last Episode , 2000 Lord Pale : Initially I had though that Dies Ater were more of a cult band akin to a heavier Judas Iscariot , but when I picked up their second album Through Weird Woods , I was graced with an album akin to a mixture of bands such as latter day Dark Funeral , Dimmu Borgir , Cradle Of Filth , and a little dash of darkmetal . The vocals are charismatic and varied going from the typical rasp through to a death growl and some spoken passages , and generally some of the riffs are truly memorable whether they be slower heavier ones or faster traditional blackend ones , but the songs themselves lack inspiration . The keyboard intro is interesting , and the keyboards themselves aren't overly intrusive but well played , the problem is when all these seemingly good elements combine to form a song , they just don't equal the sum of their parts . The band photo's show a variety of influences which could explain the disjointedness of Dies Ater's sound with one guy trying his best to look hard , another doing his best Abbath pose , and the keyboardist gazing away arrogantly ( free of corpse paint ) adopting the look of a latter day Ihsahn . Overall a rather dull release that starts promising but gets boring very quickly . Favourite Tracks - Scorned Heroin , Infested Night , Wo Anmut Wacht Mark - 5.5/10 |
