Dornenreich 'Her Von Welkin Nachten' Prophecy, 2001 Lord Pale: German band Dornenreich seem to fit the Prophecy bill quite well but retain their own individuality at the same time. Heavy mid paced riffs set the groove, similar at times to The Kovenant, complemented by cellos or keyboards and the occasional shift into classic blackmetal blastbeat passages. The sound is oddly appealing, it wouldn't be unfair to say that they are an extremer version of Rammstein, but don't let that put you off the comparison is mainly due to the alternating deep clean vocals and the catchiness of the riffs. Blackmetal vocals are the driving force on Her Von Welkin Nachten, and occasionally female vocals dominate the mic, but the song structuring is very bizarre but listener friendly and the song writing is great. Every track on here suits the flow of the album or serves to break it up when it becomes too much, the sign of a talented group of individuals. All the lyrics are in German of course, but that doesn't detract from the brilliance of the album, if your looking for something a little more obscure but still in the same realms of heavy extremity than this is the album for you.
