Enslavement of Beauty
Enslavement of Beauty  “Traces O’ Red”
Head Not Found , 2000
Lord Pale :
This is a Norwegian 2 piece band playing what could be described as orchestral mid tempo blackened metal . The vocalist snats and on some of the tracks uses a deep ( seemingly computer enhanced ) death metal talking voice similar to some of the spoken passages on Covenant’s debut . Musically this album is very good , with the keyboard passages and guitars working in harmony and sometimes following each others melody lines to create a very classical , sometimes haunting sound .  At times they almost sound like Nexus Polaris era Covenant ( My Irreverent Pilgrimage ) . The lyrics are ‘different’ to other blackmetal bands for example the title track Traces O’ Red is about breaking in a virgin ( not the initial impression you get from the art work and the song titles ) . The rest of the lyrics are about fucking , depression , or the mingling of the two themes . The vocalist who wrote the lyrics uses over florid language and at times doesn’t seem to have enough of a grasp of the English language in order to be doing so . This aside I still think this is a good album ,  the music is superb ( but can get a little samey at first ) however the lyrics do tend to be a little bit too cheesy at times . An interesting debut from a band with a lot of promise .

SECOND OPINION
Gloon :
Rampantly gay and too soft and samey, nothing really ground breaking and new here.
