Ordnance Self released , 1995 Lord Pale : Excellent , technical , high quality power metal from Whyalla , South Australia . I am friends with the guitarist’s cousins but never got a chance to see them live . The vocalist Leigh Filmer has a high pitched traditional power metal voice roughly in the vein of Iron Maiden . Backing vocals are provided occasionally by guitarist Kerran in the form of guttural snats that highlight and accentuate some chorus’ . The guitar work is excellent , technical , heavy at times , always melodic and has plenty of addictive riffs and solos to keep it interesting interspersed with acoustic sections . The drumming is adequate and suits the music with plenty of interesting kicks and rolls . Iron Maiden and Helloween would be the closest type of bands to compare Ordnance to ( you can hear little bits and pieces of them in the songs ) and some of the members of the band are big Iron Maiden fans so they are an obvious influence . In my opinion the songs on this disc are comparable to most of Maiden's material , such is the quality of song writing and musicianship . This is a small limited quantity mini cd ( 5 tracks lasting just under 25 minutes ) that was only released locally throughout South Australia , it is a shame they didn’t send it off to a major label as they could have easily been signed . Ordnance are now disbanded ( due to lack of support and label ) and this jem of a mini disc is unfortunately their only contribution to the scene .
