Ved Buens Ende  “Written In Waters”
Misanthropy , 1995
Lord Pale :
Norwegian darkmetal come experimental blackmetal , featuring Vicotnik ( Old Man’s Child , DHG ) and Skoll ( Ulver ) and Carl Micheal . Though the timing isn’t necessary of kilter , all the instruments ( bass , guitar and drums ) are frequently not actually playing together , but this strange style eventually comes together as a cohesive whole . Odd sounding arrangements are accompanied by clean male vocals , deep clean male vocals , female vocals and black metal rasps . Some of the material on the disc is fairly straightforward and some sounds strange not because of timing but rather strange instruments and melody lines . Lyrically personal , introverted visions of darkness and thoughtful mayhem comes across well considering the bizarre musical style . The artwork is also quite interesting and fitting , with this pale white figures milling in a barren landscape . Written in Waters is a musical triumph for its time and an unclassifiable masterpiece in its own twisted logic , I haven’t heard anything else quite the same . A fresh original sound in a sea of repetition .
