Sun Descends ‘Kanun-Law’ SD Productions, 2004 Gloon: After a nearly 3 year hiatus Sun Descends returns to the scene with new album and new line up. Featuring Mem V. Stein of Exumer infamy, Sun Descends is metal outfit straight out of New York City and deliver some seriously good old-school thrash for us 80s lovin metal maniacs. Their new album Kanun-Law, which follows on from 2001s “Tide in the Affairs of Men”, is a 8 track limited edition release (500 copies only) featuring five songs from the newly reformed Sun Descends and 3 tracks from Stein’s former band in the shape of Exumer’s 85 demo ‘A Mortal in Black’. Produced by Don Fury the album is a raw blend of 80s thrashing glory and traditional metal attitude and grunt. The tracks remind me of early Kreator mixed with a hardcore edge and winning formula in any case. The band also features new comer Jillian Ann La Boy, a punk slash classical cello freak which combined with Stein’s Turkish roots, could make this a truly unique and interesting band to follow. Overall a tidy release with a perfect blend of the old and new, heres to waiting for the full length. Favourite Tracks – Quiet Predator, Repeater of Births, Sacred Rating – 7/10 |
