Suppository ‘Punching Out Reality’
Forensick, 2002
Gloon:
After two splits with Agathocles and Mindflair respectively and numerous guitarists coming and going, Holland’s Suppository have finally released their debut effort ‘Punching Out Reality’. I must say the hardcore alarm bells were ringing when I first saw the cover art work, however after the first track of filthy groove driven grindcore had blasted through the trusty stereo all misconceptions were destroyed. Suppository play a brutal death influenced grindcore mixing elements of both Carcass (their bass sound is very reminiscent of ‘Synpothnies of Sickness’) and the mighty Bolt Thrower (their patented rumble is present in tracks such as ‘Failed Heroically’ and ‘Compulsive Elements’). Clocking in at 20 minutes and featuring 18 tracks you know that you’re in for a fast but furious ride which only the grind genre can deliver. With some seriously heavy groove and crazy off beat samples (from movies the Big Labowski and Snatch) you could be forgiven for thinking this is Blood Duster’s long lost European cousin. Utilising a great musical blueprint grafted from the greats and some interesting and almost surprising songwriting (not just mindless gore and war) Suppository have the tools to stand out from the pack of unoriginal sub-par bands of this flooded genre and carve a lasting name for themselves.
