Veles/Legion 'Blood On My Knife'
No Colours , 2004
Lord Pale:
Blood On My Knife is a split featuring two Polish underground blackmetal demos from 1994 and being limited to 666 cd and 666 vinyl copies. The first demo is Veles' ;The Triumph Of Pagan Beliefs' which features seven tracks of simple blackmetal with repetitive and throbbing riffs augmented by some double kick percussion and eerie keyboards. The vocals are a slightly echoed rasp, and their music is fairly diverse from their atmospheric intro 'Winds Of The Vampires' through to the mighty 'Black Flames Spread Warfare' with the classic wind samples and nice acoustic passages. Legion's self titled demo on the other hand ( whilst still repetitive and throbbing ) is heavier and plodding more akin to Burzum and Gorgoroth. What sets legion apart is their vocalist who sounds something akin to a Satanic whale-song with his high pitched and intermittent wailing which gives the music a very hypnotic feel but may also turn some people off. Overall both of the demo's are worthy re releases especially with the excellent new artwork and again No Colours proves to be an essential label in the distribution of cult blackmetal art.
