I watched ABC's PRIMETIME last night. The show was about the porn industry. It transfixed me somewhat like a car wreck. It was especially interesting because it followed an 18 year old "Mormon" girl for two years after entering the buisness.
Porn is alive and well in this and many other countries. An article entitled "See No Evil" by P.J. Huffstutter appeared in the Los Angeles Times on January 12th. I thought it was a great article about how individuals are being harmed by this buisness. The hypocrisy of some laws (or lack therof) in this country was also illustrated. Huffstutter starts the article by making the point that cockroaches in the movie "Mimic" had representatives on the set during filming to protect their rights. Those roaches were not worked to hard and could not be killed or hurt in anyway.
Both the LA Times article and the ABC coverage mentioned that legal brothels in Nevada are tightly regulated whereas girls participating in the porn film industry have no such protection. It is not right.
These gals in the porn industry deserve to be protected (the men do to I suppose) more than roaches. They are not trash. They are people despite being scorned by society. Protecting them protects them, their families and society. Unprotected sex should be outlawed in this industry. Testing is never going to catch all the infected individuals. Many of the sexually transmitted diseases are very adept at hiding out in the human body. Regulation of the industry is the only responsible thing to do.
