Weather Report: http://www.caribbean-weather.net/weathertoday.html 9/2/2004 11:23:38 AM As you see in the above photo Frances is progressing in a West/North/West direction. It is currently moving at 14mph east of the island chain in the Bahamas. Hurricane winds, 140mph, extend 80 miles from the eye of the center. Tropical force winds, up to 75 mph, extend more than 180 miles from the center of the hurricane. It appears to all that the storm will continue to make its tracks through the archaeological chain of the Bahama islands. Currently our skies are completely overcast. Some rain has fallen for the first time from this hurricane. Wind gusts as a result of Frances are currently up to 50 to 60 mph in gusts. These gusts appear occasionally and then calm down again. It is still currently safe to go outside for last minute repairs. There is now great movement of the trees surrounding the community. Our seas are presently quite choppy and in a storm like condition. All boats are out of the Bight of Eleuthera, Caribbean sea and secured on land. Most stores in the community are now closed. There is one reliable store in the community where persons can purchase last minute hurricane supplies. They will be open as long as conditions allow. The full force of Frances is expected to take effect by 8pm this evening as she moves into our area moving at around 14mph. It is quite evident that she is here. Hopefully there will be no fatalities as a result of this hurricane and a minimum of damage to buildings especially our sea front homes and businesses where traditionally most of the damage occurs near the beach. The last hurricane left a significant amount of damage. Hopefully the reinforced infrastructure repairs like a new dock and several seawalls in several communities along the island will stand up to the storm and emerge with little damage. date as the network permits. Back to top of page Back to home/start page Wednesday, September 01, 2004 9/1/2004 6:50:07 PM As you see above in this hourly satellite photo hurricane Frances is getting closer and closer to Eleuthera. According to radio reports at ZNS Bahamas by reporter Marcellas Hall, the storm has now hit the island of Inagua and the southern Bahamas. Marcellas reports that the buildings and people in the southern Bahamas are adequately prepared and damage is expected to be minimal although this is a major category 4 hurricane. Some essential services like electricity and telephones are now out in that area. Reports will resume when the storm has passed and these services resume. Nassau International airport will close as soon as the winds reach 40 mph. That is expected to take place mid day on Thursday 3rd of September. Eleutherians here in Tarpum Bay and elsewhere are getting prepared. Buildings are now boarded up and citizens are about the community assisting others with their preparation needs. In other community news, there has been one alarming report of price gouging in Rock Sound Eleuthera where citizens report to this news service that the price of essential plywood has risen over the last few days from $26.00 per sheet to the high price of $42.00 per sheet. MP Leslie Miller over ZNS radio alerted the nation that his ministry is on the lookout for such despicable unfair business activity and will deal harshly with the perpetrators of such unconscionable activity. His ministry will impose the maximum penalty on such bad and illegal business activity once reported and investigated. In the northern end of the island of Eleuthera, Bahamas the community of Spanish Wells is reported to be in great shape also since residents there have properly prepared their homes for the intensive hurricane activity. The homes of this fishing village says ZNS Bahamas reporter Martin Albury are built with such hurricane activity in mind. They are designed and out fitted automatically with hurricane window shutters. These descendants of the American southern loyalist group immigrated to the Island of Eleuthera in the middle 1800’s and still maintain certain loyalist traditions. House building in a traditional loyalist style is on of those traditions. This entire community takes great pride in their loyalist heritage. Spanish wells is the lobster fishing capital of the Bahamas since they bring in tons of lobster during the eight month harvest period annually supplying the United States and Europe with tons of freshly frozen lobster, grouper and other varieties of fish caught by their fishermen in the fishing areas around the Bahamas. Presently weather activity in Eleuthera
remains calm with the occasional rain. However at this time the skies are
quite clear and the weather is pleasant as we await the arrival of Hurricane
Frances by midday tomorrow. More News on Hurricane Frances activity in
Eleuthera, Bahamas tomorrow. Back to top of page Back to
home/start page This link below has satellite photos of the
hurricane up to the hour. Right now in Tarpum Bay, South Eleuthera the wind is beginning to pick. We are experiencing 30-40 mile per hour gusts of wind. Trees are beginning to rock. Skies are presently clear with occasional scattered clouds. Presently there is no rain in sight. By late this evening the wind may be higher as the storm is approximately 24 hours from our area. Its high time to batten up and make preparations for the coming of this Storm Frances. More reports as the day and the hurricane
progresses. Tuesday, August 31, 2004 Hurricane Frances is scheduled to come our way by Thursday. Some predictions of the track she will take places the storm directly over North Eleuthera and Abaco on Thursday evening. This morning our skies are overcast. The high today is expected to be around 99 degrees Fahrenheit. Tonights low will fall into 76 degrees. Eleutherians are expected to be securing their
properties in expectation of a visit by hurricane Frances. We do hope the hurricane takes or changes course into a less fatal pattern. August 27, 2004 Another gorgeous day in Eleuthera begins. The skies are clear and bright with a 20% chance of rain. Little scattered cloud activity which means its gonna be a warm, bright, sunny day with a high of 91 degrees by mid afternoon and a low tonight of 78 degrees. The winds are very calm with a .5-knot breeze, which is practically still. It’s a wonderful day for the outdoors. Fishing is a fantastic activity for the day, farming, gardening, a picnic and other outdoor activities will be suited for a day like this. Do
enjoy our weather in Eleuthera today. News,
Articles and Poetry: In the news today roadwork continues in Rock Sound. Symonettes Enterprises are moving toward Tarpum Bay with their government-contracted roadwork. The company has employed a number of men from the settlement of Rock Sound to assist in the roadwork project. The main aim of this measure of roadwork seems to be to both pave the surface of the needed areas of road and in addition to that widen the roadways. They
are adding at least four feet to the existing roadway by widening both side
of the road. The result will be a much safer, wider road for the island in
the areas affected. That is good news
for the island. Untitled
-Tropical Poetry I’m caught up in a euphoric high And there’s a good reason why Such passion for the events that occur in me There’s no other way to be I’ve got hope and expectations for the future Opportunity knocks on my door presently here Just to have each day and want more Life is about values and compromise This determination is my great prize Careful not to fall into the sky Less I get too high with this determination Determination is like desire It sets the soul on fire With wishes of moving higher With no plan to retire Many new expectations to inquire No time for sitting in a mire Set the world on fire With love and desire Thoughts I transpire Through the means I have acquired, today. Who of you knows From whence we came? Who of you knows who is to blame For the great bondage of slavery? The modern Bahamian Is to say Thanks that his God brought him this way A land so bright Forever stay On Archipelago’s glistening shore The lord gave this land to the brave Even the beaches and the cave One is astonished now to say Bahamians were once a slave Dynamic compliments in disguise A beauty that bring tears to the eyes A treasure created for the wise We may one day bless the day In which we came The heart of this experiment Among the people a true God sent I saw it in his smile as he spent Time analyzing the myth Of destiny and creation. Its a beautiful, good weather day in Eleuthera folks. The sun is out and shining amid the light cloud cover. The canopy of the sky is a beautiful sight in the early morning hours. Catching the sun rising and the sunsets are another amazing Eleuthera activity. Watching the sun set on the horizon is a fantastic way to spend early evening. The high today is expected to get up to a warm 90 degrees by early afternoon. Tonight’s low will be around 78 degrees Fahrenheit. It’s an amazing day for the outdoors. The beach, the boat, touring the island, a picnic or just working outdoors are great activities and ways to spend the warm Eleuthera days. You are invited to enjoy our Eleuthera weather
today. News, Articles and Poetry: A New Beginning
I search my Mind For the remnants of the past. The old prejudices that Hurt my heart so bad. I try to reclaim but To the present add A resolution for a new beginning. Gone are the days when I so broadly aim. In are the days when I so finely claim The essence of my actions I so boldly wean The gatherings of a new beginning. New and old friends come to Mind Renewal of the ties that bind, A brave new world I hope to find In the remnants of a new beginning. Today, this morning, I resolve To make a new beginning. Fishing Report: Fishing in Elethera resumes each day early in the morning before many of us are awake. By early afternoon our local fishermen are at the docks with the days catch of the delicious seafood we consume daily. The time to be at the docks is from 2PM to 5PM in the afternoon. Most fishermen return at this time and begin processing and selling their days catch. Lobster, Grouper, conch and Snapper are just some of the choices at the dockside Fish Market. Presently there are more than ten boats from which you can purchase fresh seafood daily in South Eleuthera. Ask a friend where to find the best buys at the daily fish markets in South Eleuthera and Governors Harbour at the stop light opposite the Bahamas tourism office. See you at the docks in Tarpum Bay, Eleuthera

Weather:
Todays
weather in Eleuthera, warm and sunny. Partially overcast skies this afternoon
as there was a 20% chance of rain.
The high today rose to a hot 90 degrees Fahrenheit. Tonights low is
expected to be as low as 78 degrees. Overnight rain is not expected tonight.
The day
was quite simply wonderful. Many took advantage of the day by taking to the
sea for recreation and livelihood. The
beaches today were another excellent way to spend the day.
News, Articles and poetry:
Eleuthera
celebrates the positive news coming out of Athens Greece today with the
winning of both medals by both Debbie Ferguson and Tanique Williams.
You will
recall that there is a direct Eleuthera connection to the Olympic games this
year in the person of Chris Brown who hails from Whymms Bight, Eleuthera.
Chris is the son of Mr. Hartcourt Brown of Whymms Bight. For sure Mr. Brown
is proud of his sons achievements this far in the games, although he did not
win a medal in his individual race this year. More is expected to happen in the way of winning a medal by
Chris in the Men’s 4x4 relay race.
So
Eleutherians do have someone and something to be quite proud of in Athens
Greece today.
Fishing Report:
Lobster
season goes on in Eleuthera although not as profitable for the local
fishermen as in years previous.
It
appears that the reach of the more organized commercial fishermen has reached
our shores and it is reported by local fishermen that in many cases these
commercial fishing traps are in their immediate fishing areas. This affects
them by cutting in their local fishing supply of the much sought after
delicacy.
There
is much competition in the fishing industry as well since there are more
fishermen taking to the sea to partake in the lucrative lobster fishing
business.
Despite
the problems facing the local fishermen visitors and locals alike are invited
as usual to visit the docks on a daily basis in order to purchase fresh
supplies of lobster, grouper and other varieties of fish.

SeaShells at
Cotton Bay Today, Tarpum Bay Today came across some timely and
important news pertaining to the Island of Eleuthera, more specifically South
Eleuthera. We have exclusive news of a major resort development taking place
within several months at Jacks Bay, Eleuthera, being developed by Eleuthera
Properties Ltd. The project, a mammoth one, will take place within the
next few months pending approval by the Bahamian Government. The official
signing of A Heads of Agreement is expected to take place in Nassau in the
very near future. It is estimated that the 100 million dollar development
will take approximately ten years to be completed. The first phase of the
development will encompass the sale of 114 estate lots, ranging in size from
2/3 acre to 1 ½ acre, and the construction of a boutique hotel, based on a
villa concept, called, “The Seashells Club.” Prices for lots will become available as soon as the
research and marketing analysis is completed. Meetings are presently being
held with the country’s major real estate agencies, in order to determine the
fair market value of the lots available. SeaShells at Cotton Bay proposes to employ a number of
Bahamians, particularly Eleutherans, in a variety of tourist related and
front office jobs. The project boasts of a 1,500 acre development site
situated in South Eleuthera, including the existing Davis Harbour Marina. This grand development project will be a special one in
several ways. Mainly the fact that the development is headed by majority
Bahamian investors, including Mr. T. Albert Sands of Rock Sound Properties
Ltd. and Rock Sound Supermarket, Mr. Franklyn Wilson of Arawak Homes in
Nassau, Bahamas and Mr. Lawrence Griffin of Governors Harbour. According to Mr. Sands, this undertaking in South
Eleuthera is a dream come true for Bahamians in general, but most importantly
for the island of Eleuthera and its people. Mr. Sands notes that the time has come for Bahamians to
become directly involved with the development of our country. He feels that a
new, overdue era has been ushered in where Bahamians can become directly
involved with the funding and management of such properties as SeaShells at
Cotton Bay. Director of Operations for the SeaShells project, Mr. Wim
Steenbakkers, says that stringent building codes and landscape codes will be
enforced at the upscale development. He stresses however that there will be
ample considerations made for purchasers to individualize their own property.
He states that The Bahamas Environment, Science & Technology (BEST)
Commission is actively involved in ensuring the environmental soundness of
the SeaShells undertaking. The overall project he states will enhance and
uphold the ecological and environmental concerns of the Bahamian people. Mr. Steenbakkers states that meetings with the local
bankers on the island have been very encouraging. Local banks have an
optimistic outlook on the viability of the development and its economic
impact. Eleutherans are being encouraged to develop and initiate business
ventures of their own, in order to enhance the island’s tourism appeal and
take advantage of the opportunities that SeaShells at Cotton Bay will create. Eleuthera Properties Ltd. is indeed very optimistic about
the success of this project and the future of South Eleuthera, as Eleuthera
is an ideal place for such developments. The funding is in place and the
project is ready to go says Mr. Steenbakkers. About Development
Eleuthera, changing time’s a comin Now don’t you get up tight The same clouds rush into the bay The same mosquitoes at night It’s not the judgment comin Or Armageddon day It’s just the rush of modernization And it has come our way. Now that the waters boilin Get in and do your thing Take your part in development You make the greatest change Its up to you to decide Just how much you will change For me I will never forget The wilks dem and sugar cane. The churning adulation As the sea washes the bay The quiet nights at travelers rest As we discuss the day Remember now Eleuthera We’ve come so long a way Pay attention to advice And never go astray Pay attention to the past And to the future too Pray about the things you want And things you want to do. Well folks, its another beautiful summer day in Eleuthera with the skies open and bright. The seas are calm, there is not much in the way of breeze this morning. Already you can tell that its gonna be a warm day by mid afternoon. The high today is expected to get up into the lower 90’s and the low tonight will be a pleasant 78 degrees Fahrenheit. It’s another beautiful day for the outdoors. All out door activities are possible today and after a wonderful weekend its time to get out there and enjoy our Eleuthera weather today. News,
Articles and Poetry: Today marks and ending of the summer for some. Teachers in the public schools here in the Bahamas and elsewhere will begin returning to school for preparation purposes. Most of the summer activities are coming to an end. Most of the homecomings during the summer holidays are over and people are thinking about back to school. Many summer visitors to the island of Eleuthera have returned home or are planning to return home for school purposes. The opening of school makes the island quiet again. People leave and behind them is a wake of missed, enjoyable feelings since they leave somewhat of a void behind. Islanders love visitors. Its our tradition and has been our main source of income since the early 1950’s when tourism as we know it in this country first began. There is no excitement above the excitement that new people, visitors, bring. People are largely dynamic and happy when they are traveling and visiting other countries and are mostly on their best behaviour. They hardly bring with them the baggage they create in their own home town and are consistently searching for a new way to enjoy and identify with their hosts. The Bahamas and other countries that rely on tourism are blessed destinations. There is no other way in the world to enjoy the enormous benefits and goodwill derived out of the tourism trade. The work is pleasant and pleasing. Your attitude is elevated to a higher plane and you are understandably, at least most of you, excited about the new people in your presence. Good service in Tourism is Good business. Let us strive to bring out guests to our shores time and time again. In other news this internet service received some rather good news yesterday. There is a company interested in setting up an Island wide wireless internet service. They
are willing to service the entire island and leave the day to day business to
their Bahamian partners here on the island. Their Bahamian partners will be
trained capable internet installers and sales agents for the company. See
their website here: www.islandwideweb.com
Fishing
Report: Fishing continues on the island. The lobster season is moving along with some success by local fisherman, although it is not as successful as previous years due to the availability of the lobster. Some more conservation and growth of the species is warranted since local supplies are dwindling. Get
your fresh fish today at the docks in Tarpum Bay and other fishing peirs on
the island. More

August 22, 2004 Todays weather is gorgeous in Eleuthera. The warmth of summer grows on you and eventually invigorates you into activity equivalent to summer activity. It’s a great day for the outdoors. A picnic, bone fishing, beach volleyball, beach barbecue, a cool swim, island touring, and lots more outdoor activity exists to take advantage of on days like today. The
high today will reach 90 degree Fahrenheit. Tonight’s low will fall into the
upper 70’s around 78 degrees. News,
Articles and Poetry: Road works go on in South Eleuthera. Symonettes Enterprises, the company that was awarded the contract by the government is presently working near the airport in Rock Sound. They have entirely redone needy sections of the main street, Queens Highway which passes right through each settlement in Eleuthera. In fact, it is the only highway on the island and runs from the extreme South to the extreme northern end of the island. The company is scheduled to repave all of the needed roads on the island including the side streets. The government is preparing for the upcoming, proposed restructuring and reinvesting in the economy of Eleuthera. We are one of the major islands in the Bahamas, which has been virtually un-invested in for about thirty years. These upcoming developments are both timely and absolutely necessary to the future plight of the island of Eleuthera. It is no playing matter to see the enormous destruction to the family structure and social environment of the island of Eleuthera. More than 60% of the islands inhabitants have had to relocate to either Nassau or some other global cities of the world in order to have career opportunities and/or education. The
future plight of the island of Eleuthera cannot be taken lightly. It must be seen
to be serious business since the lives of thousands of people on Eleuthera
are at stake. Poetry: All I Long For All I long for Is to have a pleasant day each day A way to show my purpose Fulfill the dues I have to pay All I long for Is to show the glory of God All the gifts he’s given me On the many roads I trod The time to cry forgiveness The time to cure the modes To cure the ills that give me The wishes for the good All I long for Is time to know the difference The knowledge of the good No time for ambivalence Resolve to know I could Enjoy

A New Day Dawning
Another morning has come Yet I am not done With yesterday. New orders, questions to realize Critics, new bills to analyze. Yet I am not done with yesterday. New faces to oppose New challenges to engross Wonders never cease A new desire to release I’ll be lucky if I loose my Mind. The sun has come with all its fears Friends with worries friends with cares Select the ones that care and Make the morning bright. Monday, August 16, 2004 Todays weather was warm and pleasant. The high today got up to 91 degrees Fahrenheit with a low tonight of 80 degrees. There was rain last night. The awesome drought is officially over. We are getting frequent rain these days. Hopefully that’s a good sign and will be a positive turn around in the weather. We sympathize with Florida but are glad we did not get the hurricane. Hopefully this year will be like last year without any major hurricanes coming our way. We hope for the best. Today was a fantastic day for the outdoors. No rain, pleasant are the features that are typical of our summer days. Enjoy our Eleuthera weather today. News, Articles and Poetry: Letter To Myself
How do you feel? I thought you’d never ask. It’s been too long since I felt that special feeling. It’s been too long in seeing your smile. I’ve contemplated every thought that Comes to mind and still I’m nowhere But here in this pleasant place that sooths me. The sun, the sea, the stars this earthen womb Created me, I did the rest. Tis a way to go till I’m home So still I have to acknowledge the powers that be. I’m still here making ends meet Sleeping , eating, loving, feeling special And finding space for my dreams. So many they are. I have a large imagination and much Time to foresee the future. I’ll get there in the end
