Mining in Goldfield, Nevada
Early 1900's
Gold was discovered in 1902. Following the commencement of leasing operations in 1904, Goldfield laid claim to being the richest gold-mining camp in the world. Consider the record production: From 1904 through 1918 the total gross production was $83,685,485. During this period, gold was $20.67 per ounce. At todays price for gold this would be almost 2 billion dollars.
