GONKEN THE SOUNDS

Everything on this page is from CDs that have NOT been released officially. If you want to hear examples of my "official" work, then go to Automation Records. Bookers and promoters should take note: You can get a pretty good idea of what the songs I play live sound like by going to the links under "ON THE WEB". Of course there's always the bootlegs of the live shows... Right click and choose "Save As" to download mp3s.

ON THE WEB

-- Iuma
-- IC-MusicMedia
-- Pure Volume
-- SoundClick
-- Vitaminic*
I've posted every single track I've ever created somewhere online at one point or another. Whether it be MP3.com, Iuma.com, AMP3.com, Vitaminic, Besonic, etc., etc. I've taken down alot of my tracks over time, as I got better at making songs and music. Also, alot of these sites either went under, got bought out, or started charging people to post and download tracks. Whatever the case, there's only a couple different sites that you can find demo tracks from my CD-R albums.

*I recently found a page that still has tracks from the "1st Era of Gonken". Wow! Apparently they're charging you to download now. So if you really want to hear some of the old stuff...then go to Vitaminic.com. But, you're better off just streaming them because it's FREE!

OLD STUFF

-- Indiastrumental
-- Indiastrialization
These are the first two songs I ever recorded under the guise of Gonken. They were recorded by running my Fender Strat through a DOD Tech 4x onto my Tascam 4 track recorder. I then transfered the tracks from the multitrack onto my computer. Originally I recorded "Indiastrumental" and uploaded it to mp3.com, where the song was well recieved by webheads. So about a week later, I recorded the sequel song, "Indiastrialization". Both made it pretty high on the charts in the beginning days of mp3.com.
These files might be kind of quiet, so you'll have to turn your speakers up a little.

-- Hampster Dance Theme(DJ Pez Remix)
Remember Hampsterdance.com? I do. Remember that god-awful annoying song? I do. In fact, I hated it so much, I decided to make a couple weird remixes to make fun of the whole thing. After being rejected from mp3.com, due to copyright infringement(the story of my life), I sought out the permission from the owner of hampsterdance.com to place my tracks on the web. Long story short, I then ended up being asked by the guy's lawyer if I would place a remix on a remix CD that was suppose to come out in 2000. I agreed, but never heard anything back from the guy. I hear that a remix CD came out, but I'm nowhere on it...anywhere.
Anyway here's one of the remixes that I did. I'm not going to post the other one because I don't really think its that good. I do actually kind of like this one though.

-- GeRmS
-- Man's Nature
Right toward the end of the "1st Era of Gonken", I put together these compositions for a sound design class I was taking at the Art Institute. These tracks were just the beginnings of ideas that I had for another Gonken album that never came into being. These are good examples of what my older songs sounded like, while still showing an evident transition stage in my song structure. Elitists take note of the use of spoken word samples that frequent even the newer Gonken tracks.

LIVE SETS

-- Live in Bellevue October 24th, 2003
This is a recording of a show I played at Ground Zero for Sardonic Sounds. Their website went live that night and they threw a big party to celebrate. I'd say that this is a pretty good example of a typical Gonken set from 2003, but without the "intimate acoustic segment" I did for about 3/4ths of my 2003 shows. I also had the members of Monstrawtikuss Frankenstienikuss acting as my "hype men" for this show. I think they did a great job backing me, considering we hadn't rehearsed or anything and I even dropped a few joints that I hadn't done on our tour. The sound isn't too bad either...for coming off of a mini DV camcorder.

-- Live in Tacoma October 31st, 2003
And exactly one week later, I brought my one man act in front of the party crowd. This bootleg is taken from a Halloween Party I played in Tacoma. This show featured a "stripped-down" setup, consisting of only a mini disc player for my backup tracks and a microphone(I was there too). This was recorded right from the soundboard onto a friend's mini disc recorder. The vocals ended up being a lot louder than the backup tracks, so if you enjoy my lame jokes and smartass remarks more than the music, then this is for you.

OUTTAKES

-- In The Studio
This was one of my projects from the sound design class I took at the Art Institute. For this project we had to record a particular environment and then make something interesting out of the ambience recorded, using any means neccessary. For this piece we used sounds from within the control room as opposed to recording the sounds of the band in the recording booth. Sort of a look at the other side of the glass. I also used this piece as the hidden track on Music For The Hearing Impaired.

-- Trick-Or-Treat(The Halloween Song)
I recorded this song in 2002 for a split Halloween EP that I was going to release via mp3.com with another "left-field" artist, The Happy Lawn Gnomes. I never really finished my other tracks, so the project got sacked. This track may appear on an upcoming release, but for now, try to enjoy it in all its 128 kbps glory.

-- Pop Secret Outtake
Okay, so here's the first outtake from the upcoming Gonken full-length, Self Pleasurevation. This is just a vocal excerpt from one of the skits on the record. It features my good friend Corey and myself. This is really short and lame. Enjoy!

COVERS

-- Frosty The Snowman(2003)
This a new reworking of the hidden track on Quasi Evil. The hidden track was a cover of Frosty The Snowman, done in more of a hip hop fashion. This new version is soooo much better than the original. The original version, while being the first Gonken track to ever feature vocals, is an embarrassment to snowmen everywhere. So please enjoy this X-mas gift to all of you for this 2003 holiday season.
