You brought us to this place
It was to start a better life
This wasn't to be the case
It wasn't long before you left
And found another life
It was a friend that worked with you
That soon became your wife
Although you were not far away
It seemed to me you were
We got to see you when we could
It's not what we preferred
Birthdays came and birthdays went
We had them without you
When asked if you knew
dates for them
You didn't have a clue
It was a struggle seeing you
As you were always busy
The times we had to share with you
To count them were not many
We've grown up now without our dad
We've turned out really well
You'd never know the life we've had
I guess it's just as well
But now we're older so are you
I guess it's time to try
To not dwell on the past too much
To get on with our lives
It won't be hard, as we were hurt
We have a grudge to bare
A grudge that's deep within our hearts
For the times that you weren't there
But I can see your happy now
You've lived the life you've chose
Although it was without us
We should be happy I suppose
As you have been a father
To a girl you call your own
And made a life for her to keep
You've given her a home
So dad I'd like to let you know
Although you weren't around
I'm trying hard to understand
The dad that I have found
It's time to lay the past to rest
And go on with our lives now
To keep in touch as best we can
And get along somehow
The good times, the bad times
And the things in-between
There's one thing thats been there
To help me throughout
The love from my mother
I've not been without
She was there for me
When I needed her most
For the birth of my daughter
And the years of her growth
Through the years growing up
Full of strength, full of pride
She was there for us all
She was there at our side
She is thoughtful and loving
And always a friend
She will be there for you
You can always depend
On this woman that's kind
And gentle and caring
For her love and her time
She doesn't mind sharing
So this poem I write
Of the love that I share
For this wonderful person
That will always be there
In my thoughts and my dreams
Till the day that I'm gone
Through my child growing up
I will pass her love on
