Welcome to the Gough 49 website.

We created this website to give our friends,family and anybody
interested in Gough Island a better understanding of our experience
on the island for the year we are here.
We are the 49th expedition to Gough Island and are sent here
by the Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism, Directorate
Antartica and Islands, to maintain the base for the South African
Weather Service. Our mission is to collect weather data and provide
support for the weather team. We also have two biologists on our
team, doing research on birds.

We really enjoy the island and our motto for the year is: WE DO IT IN STYLE!!!
