Peter Henry PETERS *

Peter Henry was born on 25 October 1868 in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany... He was naturalized on 20 October 1890 in Albion, Orleans County, New York... He was buried November 1940 in the Masonic section of Santa Ana Cemetery, Orange County, California.(12) He died in an automobile accident at 12:15pm on 6 November 1940 in Albuquerque, Bernalillo County, New Mexico... Death Certificate indicates cause of death was "Concussion of Brain, contusion chest", and indicates he lived for 3 hours after arriving at the hospital.

Peter Henry accompanied his family to the United States from Germany as a lad of 7 years in 1875... Within two years his father died leaving a family of three girls and three boys... The 1880 Census shows him at age 13, working as a farm laborer and living with the Johnson Annis family in Albion, New York... His Naturalization Papers indicate he became a US Citizen on 20 October 1890 in Albion, where his family had settled... In 1892 he moved to Auburn, Cayuga County, New York, where he worked as an apprentice to a Harness Maker... That same year he met and married Ada Sarah Frier on 25 October 1892... In 1924 he and Ada moved to California and frequently traveled back to Albion for visits... It was during the return from thier visit to Albion in 1941 when he was killed in an auto accident... The accident occured on Hyway 66, 12 miles east of Albuquerque, New Mexico... The wheels of his car dropped off the edge of the hyway and when pulling back on the car swerved across the hyway hitting an eastbound car... Contact was made on Ada's side of the car and Peter threw himself over her for protection... She was injured severely and one person in the other car was killed.

OBITUARY: An Albion newspaper obituary listed the following: "..his widow, Ada S. Peters two daughters, Mrs. G. S. Bakeman of Albion, Mrs. Glen F. Wilson of Laguna Beach, CA; a son, Ernest F. of Compton, CA; two brothers, Fred, Long Beach, CA and John, Lyndonville, NY; three sisters, Mrs. John Church and Miss Lillian Burkla, Albion, New York and Mrs. Henry Badour, San Antonio, Texas; also seven grandchildren."

Family Story [personal knowledge of researcher]: When Peter and Ada first arrived in California [1924] they visited Santa Cruz with the intention of settling there... However, when they attended the local Baptist Church no one greeted or said hello to them and they left Santa Cruz in disgust and went to Southern California and settled in Santa Ana.

The 1915 Census for Albion, New York, shows Henry Peters, age 46, Ada S., age 46, and daughters Clara A., age 21, and Dora A., age 19, and son Ernest F., age 6.

Ada Sarah FRIER *(13) (14) (15)

Ada was born on 18 December 1868 in Ville of Dunkirk, Kent, England... She died on 18 August 1961 in the Norwalk State Hospital within 4 months of her 93 birthday, Los Angeles County, California... She was buried August 1961 alongside her husband in the Masonic section of Santa Ana Cemetery, Orange County, Califonia. (12) From about age 90 Ada required fulltime supervision for her advanced Alzhiemers Desease... At one point she was placed in a rest home but did not receive necessary supervision... She would often mistake salt for sugar, etc... However, even at the State Hospital supervision was not adaquate as Ada was found one day wondering alongside the nearby Santa Ana Freeway. (Source: personal knowledge of researcher).

When Ada was between 80 and 85 years old she wrote two accounts of her early years [these writings were in pencil and are in the possion of this researcher]... In one account she indicated her birthplace as the Village of Boughton [pronounced Borton], which may be true although census records indicate she was born in the Ville (village) of Dunkirk. Census of 1881(Apr) for Boughton under Blean shows Ada as 12 yrs and a Scholar (student)... On the map of "The Hundred of Boughton Blean", the Village of Boughton is only a small piece of the Hundred wherein the Ville of Dunkirk comprises a large portion... It is quite possible the Frier homestead was in Boughton but births of this rural area were recorded as occuring in the Ville of Dunkirk..? Ada's accounts indicate that when 14 she went to London and lived with friends for three years... Because of a two year illness her doctor suggested she go to Canada... In the company of others she left Liverpool, England, on 3 November 1889 and arrived in Quebec, Canada, 30 November 1889... In the fall of 1891 she left Toronto, Canada, and went to Auburn, New York, where she met and married Peter Henry Peters... Ada and her younger brother William George were the only Frier children to come to America... In 1914, when William went into the war (Canadian Army), Ada and Peter adopted William's son Ernest.

Children of Peter Henry and Ada Peters were:
