The GPRSS (Geology Postgraduate Research Supervision Survey) was devised to investigate the experiences of postgraduate research students in the geosciences, and in doing so document work practices, common problems, and areas of supervision in need of improvement. The survey attracted 102 Masters and PhD students from 15 countries, and represented a broad spectrum through most sub-disciplines in the geoscience community.
Most of the data analysis has now been completed, and the initial report prepared. I will make some results from the survey available on this web site soon, including an interactive component allowing visitors to create their own graphs from the survey data. The exact time-frame for this is unclear right now, but if you wish to register an interest in finding out when updates to the page are made, please follow this link. To make full use of this web site you need to have a JavaScript compatible browser (at least Netscape or IE version 3 or greater) and have both JavaScript and cookies turned on. Due to my university not allowing CGI access, I could not host this web page on one of their servers. Consequently, I had to use a free server instead, the down side of which is banner ads. Occasionally a banner ad may conflict with the JavaScript code in my survey's forms (only Netscape ?). If you should get a JavaScript error window, just diss-miss it. If the form looks incomplete or garbled (don't worry about the ads being garbled !), try doing a reload. As long as the form still has a submit button, it should work ok. |
