Recycled Beaks is a small private avian rehabilitation organization actively pursuing 501c3 status. Mission Statement: Recycled Beaks offers permanent placement to Cockatoos and African Greys that have been in less than ideal situations. Here they will find a safe, secure, forever home where they will receive love, good nutrition and medical care. We specialize in the care of birds who may have behavioral problems as well as birds who are physically challenged. Recycled Beaks also offers a placement service for birds that are healthily rehabilitated and therefore ready for placement in permanent adoptive homes. A large part of our focus is the educational program we employ in the process of development that will help those who have the desire to adopt a bird. We also share our experience, expertise and knowledge with those who already share their lives with a companion bird. A big part of rehabilitation involves converting birds who have eaten seeds all their life to a wholesome diet . This can be a challenge to say the least. I use a novel diet manufactired by BirDelicious. It is the closest thing I can find to what they would eat in the wild. These foods are species specific and contan whole foods without corn, wheat, soy, peanuts, added hormones, or preservatives (unless they are naturally occurring such as the vitamin C found in fruits, rosemary, sea salt or vitamin E found in virgin coconut oil), no synthetic vitamins (laboratory-produced), no pesticide residues, and no sulfur dioxide. I believe bird's bodies are not meant to assimilate these artificial ingredients. In addition this food is very convenient, can be left in their dishes during the day without fear of spoiling. Every bird is converted to this diet, most within a week, some the same day. It is amazing how quickly they convert. I have seen significant impovement in feather quality and even behavior. This food may be purchased at the following link: http://www.bird-elicious.com/indexrecycledbeaks.html?1111786481650 A portion of the proceeds from the sale will go to help care for the birds at Recycled Beaks. |
