FOURTH GENERATION
"Deacon" John Whitman (4) was born in Stow, Massachusetts, on September 21, 1717.
On February 6, 1747 he married Mary/Mercy Foster (4) who was born in 1727.
She was the daughter of Rev. Mr. Foster of Stafford, Connecticut. Mary was also called Mercy or Marcy.
In 1755, after the infamous expulsion of the Acadian families, this made way for the settlement of the English in the Annapolis Valley. An invitation was extended to the New England "planters" to occupy and develop the homes and farms that were left by the Acadians.
In June of 1761, John Whitman (4) along with forty-five others, came to Annapolis Royal, N. S.
They came across on the sloop called the "Charming Molly". They brought with them their
families and all of their possessions. They were promised land grants, which were finally granted to about a hundred.
"Deacon" John Whitman and
Mary Foster had the following children:

5. John Whitman (5) b. September 25, 1753 ~ Died: 1833, aged 80
6. Salome Whitman (5) b. March 29, 1755 ~ Died: June 5, 1831, aged 71
7. Elnathan Whitman (5) b. August 16, 1756 ~ Died: March 1, 1765
8. Jacob Whitman (5) b. October 14, 1757 ~ Died: September, 1837, aged 80
9. Isaac Whitman (5) b. November 3, 1758 ~ Died: July 20, 1777
10. Abraham Whitman (5) b. September 10, 1761 ~ Died: March, 1854, aged 93
11. Mercy Whitman (5) b. March 26, 1763 ~ Died: February 13, 1828
"Deacon" John Whitman (4) died on September 12, 1763, before he received his share of the land grant which was given to his sons. He left considerable property and the foundation for his
house. Mary was left with eleven children, who were all under the age of 15.
