This branch of the Whitman Family Tree is in thanks to Vern Whitman, who is 86 years young. I say this because I want everyone to realize how much work he has done so that his family could be included on this web site. You should be very proud Vern. It was said that George provided overnight accomodation to a ship jumping sailor who was suffering from "Ship Fever" ( undulant fever). George contacted his sister Irene, who was a nurse, to come and nurse the sick. This disease was transmitted to other occupants of the house. The final result were the deaths of Charles (6), George (7) and Irene (7), all around January 15, 1850. This left Charles (8) fatherless at the age of three years old.
5. James E. Whitman (7) b. May 6, 1819. He was a farmer and lived in New Albany, Annapolis County, Nova Scotia. He was unmarried.
6. Isabel Whitman (7) b. May 26, 1821, married
on January 1, 1850 to George Gates (7). He was a farmer
and they lived in Inglisville, Nova Scotia. She died: March 31, 1862.
They had 5 children:

October 10, 1852 to John Stoddart (7), who was born on
January 6, 1825. It is said that he was one of the most successful farmers in Annapolis County.
They lived in East Dalhousie. He was noted for his hospitality and was visited by large numbers
of farmers to see how he made improvements to his buildings and the general operation of farm
management.

Cynthia Oakes (8) b. November 27, 1855. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Charlotte Tupper (Parker) Oakes. They farmed and raised 4 sons in New Albany, Annapolis County, Nova Scotia, until their deaths.
He died: December, 1925. She died: August 28, 1950. They are buried in New Albany, N. S.

George Craft Whitman (9) b. April 28, 1880: m. May 28, 1907 to
Ida Melissa Milberry (9) b. February 4, 1888. Ida was the daughter of the late David Ainsley Milberry and Alice Elvina (Rannard) Milberry. She was raised in Middleton, Mass., U.S.A.
They owned a 240 acre farm in Nictaux Falls. He worked in "McKenzie's Creamery" in Middleton
for many years. They raised a family of ten children at "Hillcrest Farm" and retired in Beamsville,
Ont. in the mid 1950's, where their daughter Marion Dawdy R.N., nursed her mother until she passed
away. George died: June 16, 1968. Ida died: May 27, 1959
They are both buried in Beamsville, Ontario.
