Welcome To The
Mother Of All Graylists
This Site Aims To Provide An Alphabetical Database Of Language Institutes And Universities Around The World. Obviously This Is Still A Work In Progress But In Time I Hope To Provide A Comprehensive And Up To Date Reference List. The Main Source For This Reference List Is Posts On Various ESL Forums. Please Feel Free To Email Me Directly As Well If You Would Like To Share Your Experiences Good And Bad And I Can Post Them In Full On Separate Pages Accessible By Clicking On The School Name Or Location.  I Worked In Korea And Had Some Eye Opening Experiences Myself But Have Moved On To Greener Pastures And I Thought That A Mother Of All Graylists Could Be Of Use To Those Still Slugging It Out So To Speak In Korea And Other Countries.
Please Note That This Database Trys To Deal Predominantly With The Facts, ie Of Lying and Cheating Regarding Breaches Of Contract. However, On The Principle That Where Theres Smoke Theres Usually Fire, When There Are Ongoing Complaints About For Example Interpersonal Relationship Difficulties With The Management They Will Be Noted In The School Summaries. This List Focuses Mainly On Those Reports Up To A Year Old Since Management Can Change And Schools Can Change Their Name. This Site Aims To Be Current.
Also Note That Just Because A School Isn't On The List Doesn't Mean That It Shouldn't Be!! It May Be Hard To Belive For Those Who Havn't Been To Korea Yet But Virtually All Schools In Korea (The Country That Gets More Blacklistings Than All Other Countries Combined) Are Involved In Less Than Honorable Practices Even If Its Something As Minor As Charging You Slightly More (Most Charge 7%) Than The Governments Actual Tax Rate. I've Seen Rates As High As 15% (At Pagoda) And Low As 3%. However! If Overcharging On Tax Is All The School Is Reported To Do Dishonestly On This Graylist Then For Korea Anyway You Would Be Wise To Actually Regard That Prospective School Highly, At Least In The Matter Of Contractual Integrity. Of Course You Will Have To check Out Other Important Factors Like Location And Salary. But The Point Is That, In The Spectrum Of Worst To Best, In That Hypothetical Schools Case They Would Be As Close To Honest As You're Likely To Find Over Here. In Other Words It Is Equivalent To An Actual White Listing. I Don't Belive Having An Actual Overt Whitelist Can Work Because Its Far Too Easy For A Director To Actually Whitelist Their Own School. I've Seen It Happen In Korea. They Just Get One Of The Existing Foreign Teachers To Write A Glowing Report About The School Or Otherwise They Don't Get Their Severence Pay. For This Reason We Don't Publish Letters From Schools (Or "Happy Teachers") Since they Have Every Reason To Lie Whereas Ex Teachers Arn't Under The Same Heavy Financial Pressure To Lie. But As A Bonus A Directer Of A School Is Unlikely To Want To Admit Even To Minor Lies So A Post Admiting Such Is Likely To Be Authentic And Hence We Can Have A Back Door Whitelisting. I Hope This Doesn't Sound Too Complicated! Good Luck In Your Job Hunt!!!
