Greater Faith's
History
The
Greater Faith Baptist Church is a Christ centered, Bible based church.
We are located in the heart of Stockton in Northern California.
Greater
Faith was first organized October 21, 1945 in the house of Deacon Dan Caldwell
by the late Dr Austin E. Williams. There were 6 members present.
Greater
Faith later moved to a small front then to the Edison Villa Gym. On October
28, 1951, a new building was constructed at 345 West Worth Street, under the
pastorate of Dr Williams.
Dr
Williams was pastor until February of 1959. Since then, Rev. E. F. Carter served
until November of 1959 and again in 1980. Dr M. L. Paskell served until 1978.
Rev. Alfred Norris served until 1980. Rev. Aaron Neal served until Pastor Joseph
L. Slade was called to the helm of leadership at Greater Faith until his retirement on February 28th 2005.
During
the past 22 years, the church sanctuary was
renovated, additional property purchased, innovative and progressive technological
changes were made to enhance the efficiency of the Church office and for instructional
training aids. Pastor Slade also established Discipleship Classes, New Members
Orientation Classes, Spiritual Gifts Class, Wednesday Night "Hour of Power"
Prayer and Bible Study; a Visitation Ministry, Evangelism Ministry, Park Ministry,
a Prison Outreach Ministry, a Parish Ministry, Kingdom Kids Ministry, Senior
Citizens Ministry, establishment of an Audio Tape Ministry and Leadership Training
Classes. We also purchased two new 16 passenger vans for expansion of the Transportation
Ministry, two new portable buildings to house the Classrooms for expansion of
our Children's and Christian Education Ministry. We praise God for our recent
purchase of the property on Downing Ave and Turnpike Road to build a new Church
and Educational Facility. All of the above changes have helped foster Spiritual
Growth and encourage participation in the work of the Ministry.
We
feel very honored and are grateful to those of you who, with the help of God,
laid the foundation upon which we stand presently. However, we cannot allow
ourselves to become complacent, for there is still much to be done in this business
of Kingdom building for our lord. Therefore, we are still striving to increase
the faith we started over 50 years ago.

2003, the Lord blessed us with the ability to purchase property
here in Stockton for Greater Faith's new home.
We're
still in the infancy stages but we've
taken our first steps.
