Horticultural Lighting for Hydroponics and Greenhouses By Abigal Gordon Let there be Light! Light is the first line of life for all matter, plants are no exception. Light is essential to carry on photosynthesis, without which you could give your plants all the nutrients and moisture money could buy, but you'd still end up with a dead heap of vegetable mass. Sunlight is the ideal source of light and contains the Reds and Blues plants require to produce a healthy growth. However in a Hydroponic system Sunlight is not always an option. Artificial Horticultural lights provide the solution, they are cost effective assuming you shop carefully. |

High output
lamps have extremely high lumen output per watt rating at 5000 lumens
per lamp at 54 watts. Light output is 300% higher in reflector vs.
no reflector. Low heat and no noise enables these lights to be placed very
close to the plants without burning.
Mylar is a reflective film, best described as across between aluminum foil and plastic- it maximizes the benefits of your light by reflecting it off of its surface back onto your plants. It's cost effectiveness is un-debatable. Cover your walls and floor with this material and you'll see a tremendous difference of brightness . Mylar is available in two thicknesses, 1 mil (.001") and 2 mil (.002"). The 2 mil is recommended because it is easier to work with and more durable
