Somewhere over a distant mountain, the sun has risen. But here
in this deep valley, it's still dark and cold. I stir from
sleep, confined in my down mummy bag. The cool, fresh air
seeping into the tent caresses my face, the only part of my
body that peeks out from this cocoon of warmth.

who apparently judged him to be the lesser of two evils.

ancient Chinese proverb states: "An invisible red thread
connects those who are destined to meet, regardless of time,

to persuade Americans that public figures' private lives are
their own business and that personal peccadilloes have no
bearing on their effectiveness as public-policy makers. I
guess such reasoning applies only to liberals. For
conservatives, there's a different standard.

case on Texas state sodomy law, his comments ignited a
firestorm of protests from the gay community. He was

characterized as “deeply hurtful,” by a number of gay advocacy
groups.
