Positions Within the Company

Every company in Amtgard is required to have at minimum a Captain and Lieutenant to serve as the leadership of the group. In accordance with this requirement, the positions of Viking King and Raven respectively fill these roles. However it is important to note that the Vikings are a might makes right organization and while the Viking King serves as the head of the company his word is not final.

Viking King (called Kanunger): Serves as the Captain of the company. Responsible for hosting and conducting all company functions. The Viking King position is determined every six months in conjunction with the Duchy Crown Qualifications. A Viking King can be removed from office with a 2/3 majority vote in a company Althing.

Raven: Serves as the Lieutenant for the company. The Raven is the champion of the company and is to be considered the best fighter within the group. The position is won by company tournament every six months during the Duchy Crown Qualifications. The Ravens responsibilities are to lead the company in battle and to represent the company in the Duchy Circle of Steel. The Raven is to act as the Kings man on all park matters and represent to the best of his ability the Viking Kings wishes as they compliment the desires of the group. The Raven can be challenged through Holmgang for removal from office. The challenger may NOT choose a second for his Holmgang should this action ever be taken, the Raven however may elect a second as per normal rules of the duel.

Jarl: A full member of the company. Position grants full voting rights in company Althings. Also grants full use of any and all Company equipment (weapons, tents, armor, etc.). Bondi status grants the right to wear company colors but they are restricted from displaying the raven symbol on any garb or equipment (which designates full Jarl member status).Bondi may make use of company equipment and items with the approval of the company. Bondi have earned the right by their own hand to be considered for Jarl status.

Valkyries: Any female Jarl within the company. Valkyries are to be served with the greatest of respect by Bondi or Thralls. A Valkyries every wish is a Bondi or Thralls every command.

Advancement Within the Company

Thrall:
Any player of Amtgard is free to become a Thrall by their own decision. To become a Thrall, the player must approach a Jarl and request recognition as a Thrall. The request is to be made known to the Viking King at the absolute earliest moment and upon the acknowledgement of the Viking King, the player is to be considered a Thrall.

Bondi:
A Thrall must at some point within the first month as a petitioner, enter Holmgang with a full Jarl member of the company. The Holmgang is to be held at the earliest and most convenient time for the company. In order for the Thrall to become Bondi, they must defeat in tournament style combat, a Jarl in good standing. There are two ways to perform the Holmgang.
1) The Thrall may select the Jarl of his choice to fight in Holmgang. The selected Jarl then chooses a second (see Holmgang) to stand with him/her for the fight. If the selected Jarl is defeated, the Thrall is advanced to the status of Bondi, but before the newly created Bondi can be elevated to Jarl, they must fight and defeat the Jarl chosen as the second from the original Holmgang.
2) The company selects the Jarl to fight the Thrall by majority consensus. Upon the defeat of the selected Jarl, the Thrall is advanced to the level of Bondi without further restrictions for consideration to Jarl outside of the normal conditions which may be assigned at the admittance Althing.

Jarl: At any point after a Bondi is made, the Bondi may seek admittance as a Jarl. This is formally done at a company Althing at a time of the choosing of the initiate Bondi. Once the request is made by the Bondi, a 100 percent acceptance of all Jarls is required for final elevation status to be conferred to the initiate. Any Jarl may elect to give or refuse his vote by whatever criteria they choose. This could come by way of assigning a special task, an examination through questioning, or any other manner which satisfies the Jarl the requesting Bondi is worthy. Every Jarl is to be reminded that the requesting Bondi has earned the right to be considered through the might of their own hand.

If a Bondi does not receive a 100 percent "aye" vote in the Althing, they will remain a Bondi until they have fulfilled the requirements set forth by the refusing Jarl and obtain the needed numbers for admittance.
